Michigan offers 2016 4* QB Brandon Peters

Avon (Ind.) High four-star QB Brandon Peters lands an offer from #Michigan, #Wolverines could be tough to beat: http://t.co/uOA3VAdNvn

QB offers deserve threads imo. Peters holds offers from IU, Iowa, Boston College, and Virginia Tech according to Rivals. Seems like a good chance Peters could be an early commit based on those offers. I think I'd personally prefer Costello, if only because of some of the other California guys he might bring with him.

In today's "I want to play right now" environment, is it possible to go back to the days where freshman QB's redshirted and waited their turn to be "the guy?"  It would be a great luxury to have upperclassmen starting at QB after whatever happens the next two years.

...peter Carroll didn't care if you were a freshman or a senior....best player at the position plays. Harbaugh seems to fall into that camp and loves competition at each position. You shouldn't get handed anything...earn it. Chad Henne worked out just fine.

Henne didn't start as a freshman because he was the best player.  Henne started as a freshman because Matt Gutierrez got hurt.  Had Gutierrez not gotten injured just before the opening of the 2004 season, there is a good chance that Henne wouldn't have started until his 3rd season (either as a Junior or RS Sophmore).

Ya, I presume the other poster was referring to uncommitted prospects. I find it strange that Eason is committed to Georgia, as he is from the northwest, right? Georgia produced stafford but it's otherwise an intriguing choice for someone not in SEC country, especially after they lost their OC.

You're not the only one who would prefer Costello because of the thought of what it could do for  the Cali connection, but i'll certainly trust Harbaugh when it comes to QB recruiting.

He competes in probably the best top-to-bottom high school football conference in the country, versus someone coming from a state whose football prowess is questionable at best.

I've seen Orange County football and Indida football up close, and they may as well be different sports.

No doubt that Costello has seen better competition.

With that said, Peters doesn't have teammates as talented as Costello's, and if there is any Indiana school that is playing good competition, it's Avon. Several plays from his Hudl highlights are against Warren Central, which is Indiana's Cass Tech.

Didn't Harbaugh take 2 QBs per year at Stanford? I wouldn't assume that taking Peters would preclude us from recruiting Costello as well (though it may make it harder to land him).

He did in years he did not get Luck.  Luck was #4 overall QB - Costell is #4 overall QB.

With a logjam ahead of them - a lot of young guys - plus Costello if he comes, I don't see any other QB committing if Costello does.  And that be even if 2 QBs transfer out in a year because you know another gunslinger is coming in 17.  Plus Gentry, plus O'Korn ahead of you.

Jim is in a different circumstance here - I do expect 6 QBs or so on the roster here at all times but unlike at Stanford he is going to now be able to access a lot higher caliber of QB every year so will be a tougher gig from the standpoint of convincing a second QB to join any class where a top 5 QB is already in it.  When he was doing that at Stanford he was doing it with guys more like Messiah deWeaver or significantly lower rated. (exception of Luck)

We currently have 5 scholarship QB's with 2+ years of eligibilty left.  Speight, Malzone, and Gentry all have 4, Sugar Shane with 2 and O'Korn will have 2 starting in 2016.  I'm all for good competition at this spot but it's going to be hard to convince 4* guys to sit on the bench.

Pretty close.  Even 'Bama has a hell of a time getting QB's to commit/finish out their time there.

I'm fine with a mix of 4-6 QB's on the roster at any one time but I never suggest the Henson route where you skip a class to ensure a commitment; just leads to bad things if things do not go according to plan.

was RS. Specifically who gets one and who doesn't. Wilton and Shane won't for obvious reasons.  O'Korn can't play.  That leaves Malzone and Gentry. Cleary is the definition of a filler/practice player (not knocking him, that's his role). So does Harbaugh RS both freshmen leaving 2 scholarship QB's and Cleary or one? If one, we look at 2016 with Shane having 1 year. O'Korn with 2 years. Wilton/Freshman1 with 3 years. Freshman 2 with 4 years and any 2016 recruit with 4 years with a possible RS.

In stark contrast about the Hoke regime from wildbackdunesman, if they all stay we will be in very good shape for the next few years.

I didnt look myself but I think Magnus did on his blog and quite a few of Jim's QBs turned out to be TEs.   Again you are talking a different caliber player then he had at Stanford.  When he first got there he was not QB savant Jim Harbaugh - he was FCS coach Jim Harbaugh.

The issue for us near term is eligibility.  Aside from Shane - EVERY QB on the roster is an underclassman.  We are not spread properly across classes.  We dont have a SR or RS SR,  We dont have RS JRs  - we have a JR and then a bunch of guys with 3-5 years of eligibility (excluding O'Korn).  So asking two QBs in 2016 to join into that mess, esp if one is top 5 is going to be impossible.  If 3 of other QBs were like a RS SR, a RS JR, and a true JR it would be different.

Like a lot of things in this roster (much like the OL situation a few years ago) we are not well spread across classes.  This is partially due to telling Shane he'd have no competition the year ahead of him - that didnt work out so well.  A 2012 QB on this roster would be a nice thing right now.

Even the Luck year he brought in a player as a ATH/QB.

Counting him, Harbaugh averaged just over 2 QBs per class.  Hoke averaged just under 1 QB per class.

Hoke's first 3 years we got 3 star Bellomy, Nobody, and 5* Morris who didn't play his senior year.  That is a horrible 3 year showing for recruiting the most important position.

Harbaugh is doing a great job of building the position up.

I haven't watched the film on peters yet but I will say I have not seen many highlight tapes better than Costello's. I really hope KJ is Harbaugh's top choice.

We have 98 offers out and this will be #7 for QBs. (so make it 99)  Not all Harbaugh of course but just off top of head I'd say Harbaugh has offered 35+ already in a month.

Until/unless KJ Costello gets on campus and in some parallel universe says no, I think everyone else is a sideshow.  Unless Eason flips of course.  It looks like per 247 composite we have offers out to #1, #2, #3, #4, #5 QBs in the country.

I am sure the QBs are tiered.  As are most positions.  I think just about any football program will have their plan A, plan B, and plan C kids.  By the time this is said and done we are going to have 150-200 offers.  Those are not all going to be first come first serve.

We have 20 offers out to DBs - supports the idea we have a massive rebuild to do in the secondary in 2017.  That's 1/5th of all offers sheesh.  Still looking for 5 or 6 (if class size allows) DBs in 2016.

Quality trumps quantity every time. We need DB's that are going to be playing on Sundays not just numbers, for what is the point of bringing in twenty DB's if none of them can cover and make plays ? I would rather bring in four really good ones every year, play them, and use the other scholarships for the other team needs.

I think it'll tell us right away about how Harbaugh feels about the guys on the roster.

We could know within 2 weeks after the spring game where guys stand. Even if they haven't seperated the race between themselves, Harbaugh will know who can do what and it'll be interesting to see how he "attacks" the future at this position.

I'm very interested to see how he views Morris, Speight and Malzone after spring ball.

Read the much into it. Harbaugh is likely going to bring in 1 to 2 quarterbacks per year with a focus on the top guys in the country.

The real key is if we can hit in one and the next few years. With his experience with Andrew Luck if he can turn out another top ten pick QB in the next few years we should have our pick of the top guys moving forward
