He's also apparently a Detroit native.

Also
#Michigan has offered Gardena (Calif) Serra WR and #WashingtonState commit Deontay Burnett http://t.co/quTnB6PeX2 @SamWebb77

Would be great to establish a great connection with that school.
Very good chance Burnett visits #Michigan this weekend as well, easily among the most under-recruited WRs out West this year

he looks to be about 150lbs lol...that might not be the best thing...and please dont throw out any gallon comments
January 28th, 2015 at 7:15 PM ^
profile says 166 so that means 155
January 28th, 2015 at 7:17 PM ^
He's definitely scrawny right now, but Mario Manningham wasn't a hoss, either. In my opinion, it helps to have a wide array of talents at wide receiver so you can game plan against certain coverages, opponents, etc.
January 28th, 2015 at 7:20 PM ^
Idk if this kid has the same set of wheels, but if he's anything like DeSean Jackson, you'd probably make room for him on the roster.
January 29th, 2015 at 3:41 AM ^
Or the slightly scrawnier AC.
January 28th, 2015 at 8:37 PM ^
theres only so many julio jones out there. hoke and staff tried to recruit 6'3" 200 lb type receivers and now they mostly have a bunch of blocking WRs, some of whom have ok straight line speed.
everyone knocks baylors WRs and those types, well they get off press and can make people miss - 5'8", 6'0", 6'5", they can all be playmakers and it pays to have some versatility on roster

I thought he had good hands and was elusive. Couldn't really get a feel for his route running, but his highlights were pretty good. Which, I guess I'd expect.
Where do you rank him on the list of WR Michigan is going after?
January 29th, 2015 at 8:15 AM ^
Michigan isn't really going after that many receivers right now. There are only three that the new staff has really pursued. I guess I'd order them like this:
1. Van Jefferson
2. Deontay Burnett
3. Ryan Davis

I like this kid, I'd be excited to get him.

Rip Van Jefferson?
I don't know... I'm really bored today and news is slow.
January 28th, 2015 at 7:52 PM ^
Did someone say George Jefferson....
January 28th, 2015 at 6:16 PM ^
Yes please. It will almost make up for them snagging L Treadwell.

That shit ain't right.

Do you have ANY proof that Ole Miss is dirty? If not, this nonsense should stop. If you've got it, step up.
Oxford, Mississippi is a lovely town. The climate is pretty good. The football team plays in the SEC. Not a bad school. Their "new" head coach has a history of success and a history of recruiting well.
Just because players decide to go to a different school and shun Michigan, for one reason or another, doesn't make the school or the kid dirty.

I am however getting tired of the bag man meme.

Not a good sign, Harbaugh and Co ares struggling to fill the class, which was obviously expected. On the flip side they are still offering quality recruits only so I guess it will be better to bank some scholies than to just bring in bodies to fill up the class.
January 28th, 2015 at 6:22 PM ^
What are they supposed to do, not recruit? I think they are "Attacking the Day" as if they were recruiting the whole season just doing it in a compressed timeframe. If they would have offered in June they are going to offer in January.
They will make their best effort and after NSD go after next year's class with the same ferocity.
January 28th, 2015 at 6:35 PM ^
Their level of rejection isn't much different from schools who've had the whole year. Everyone's boards are littered with the kids who didn't say yes. Recruiting is like baseball. Batting .300 is really good...like HOF good.
January 28th, 2015 at 6:46 PM ^
I'd rather them be aggressive and recruit.
Other college teams do this as well. They offer more then their scholarship allotment. They hope enough stick.
Happens at the baseball level too.
These staff members are well connected and paid.

Where's that thread that compares Hoke to Harbaugh in their first month... Hoke seemd to have a lot more commitments if I recall correctly.
January 28th, 2015 at 7:19 PM ^
Right now is crunch time. Hoke started going after small-school guys or guys committed to programs who were down on their luck. Harbaugh is still swinging for the fences a little bit, trying to steal people from Arizona, Ole Miss, etc. He's not going up against Alabama/Ohio State/Oregon, but the next tier down. Hoke stole from Purdue, Indiana, the MAC, etc.
January 28th, 2015 at 9:36 PM ^
I remember Norfleet was headed to Cinci until Hoke offered him the night before signing day.

Unfortunately for Hoke and company they were not able to land or develop the next NFL QB. Morris - verdict not completely out yet. In my opinion, Morris has not shown signs to slow the game down.
If you examine all four QB's in the playoff system this year, they all have NFL tools and talent while performing.

Michigan is/was going to have a small class, anyway, but I was somewhat surprised at how few offers Hoke sent out prior to his departure. There are now just over 140 offers for the recruiting cycle, which is way fewer than Rodriguez, who sent out 190+ during the 2010 recruiting cycle.

At this point we're just throwing Sh%^T on the wall to see if it sticks...

Harbaugh is going to ruffle a lot of feathers with all of his poaching. It's about time those who hate Michigan for no reason actually had something to bitch about. For too long, Michigan has been the school whose recruits get poached. It's great to see someone come in and say, "No more Mr Nice Guy."
The game is officially "on."
