I can't think of anything clever to say. This is ugly.
The defense in case you missed it.

The one thing i take away from this is that if we would have played this this last yr.... no way we come away with a win.
The first of these all season where I'd rather watch the defense video.

Problem is, after watching these videos, schools know how to stop Denard. I am sure everyone will be doing dances now before Denard shoes up.
There's a difference between knowing and doing. It's not like Denard is top secret or that no one knows how to stop RR's spread...its just really effing hard to do when your players are executing to their best potential. But when Denard turns the ball over 4 times and can't throw a good pass, and our Oline gets owned, then yeah it's really easy to stop Michigan.
I'm just sick of this line of reasoning. By that same token, we should know how to stop Wisco and OSU too offensively. Doesn't mean we will though.
I'm not a lunatic. Seriously, i'm not.
Ok, maybe just a little bit.
i think purdue was overcommitting defenders toward the ball; therefore, i would like to see a few more misdirection plays (like the one to grady) to slow down the pursuit. i think this would open up more lanes for smith and denard.
While and after rewatching the game I agree with those sentiments.
My takeaways:
1. We kept things pretty vanilla on offense, but I do agree that we should have "spiced" up some things. That being said it was tough to throw and slow down pursuit in that sense because of the weather.
2. Our defense won us this game and I think the coaches play calling reflected that.
3. If you rewatch that last drive I think that it was excellently called by the offensive coaches and executed by the players. I don't know if you can RPS every play on that drive, but if you did, Michigan would be + by a long shot.
Looking at the offense a second time those passes to the flats seemed to be there whenever we threw them. They are simple pitch and catch plays and always went for decent yardage.
Seems like Denard took that to heart. His work ethic is amazing and he's going to get better with more exp. and healing, but toward the end of the game there wasn't much excitement when he threw the ball deep. I think he gets better with pressure and I have hope that these next 2 games are going to get him locked in like he was at the beginning of the season.
I love a hoppy ending!
Someone has to make a .gif of the kid at 1:50 in the defense video.
Hilarity will ensue.
Yeah, but it's the sound he makes that made me LOL.

Much less frustrating to watch when you know the outcome is a win.
I thought watching the video that the offense doesn't look as bad as I remembered. Just get rid of the turnovers and penalties and everything is fine.
Just get rid of the turnovers and penalties and everything is fine.
Just get rid of the 5 missed field goals and Broekhuizen is a fine kicker. Just start returning punts more than 6 yards and Gallon is a fine returner. Just start allowing fewer points and the defense is fine too.

I get your point, but the difference between those examples and the offense is that the offense does not only commit turnovers. They were moving the ball well before killing themselves with crucial mistakes. I don't see the corresponding positive with Broekhuizen.
He's good at kicking the ball, just not between the goal posts.

In the offense video--nice job Vincent Smith. Even the little guy is gettin into it.

seeing Michigan turn the ball over and then have an increase in points when they got the ball back. We haven't had many defensive touch downs.
Here are the things that stuck out to me:
Really seemed like the Purdue gameplan was to load the middle and dare us to test them on the edge. Weather definitely worked out well for that gameplan.
one of Purdue's D-tackles gave us a hard time too. The DE opposite Kerrigan played well too. I saw Purdue committed to stop the run on most plays, from what I could tell.
We should have tried to throw a bit more since it seemed Purdue was committed to stop the run, but I guess the weather and an off day from our QBs prevented that.
RR was not happy when rogers and johnson tried to return that INT at the end of the first half
Also, surprised a team hasn't tried the infamous "Double Pass" play on us that was a staple of Lloyd's offense, we flow to the ball so hard and fast on screens, if the player throws it back to the QB on the opposite sideline, he's going to the endzone.
The one positive on offense would be that the adjustment on that last drive where the two TEs were in the backfield. That was key as it resulted in a TD and iced the game. Bo and Lloyd probably would have liked the final drive - I'm guessing the offense averaged three yards and chunk of sod and it ate up a ton of play clock.
Terrible play calling in the 2nd half. Not a single play action throw on 1st down. Too many runs against 8 or 9 men in the box. No bubble screens (they were open sometimes). And Denard shouldn't have been throwing drop-back passes on 3rd and long or 2nd and ultra-long. We ran two draw plays if I remember right and Denard gained 28 yards on those two plays. Denard didn't play well and neither did the offensive line.
My only conclusion is that RR really thought they just couldn't throw the ball in the weather combined with the QB inconsistency. Once that decision is made, the offense really bogs down. But there must have been a reason for the extremely constrained playcalling.
Yeah I was really upset as they ran the ball right up the field on several drives in the second half only to have the drives negated by penalties, interceptions or fumbles while trying to pass. What the hell was RR thinking? /s
I just destroyed that toilet with a huge Rosenberg.
That was painful

1. Northwestern 08 - I didn't know a pancho could freeze in place.
2. 2nd half of Iowa in 02 - freezing rain pelted us as Iowa ran up the score in the 4th
3. @Purdue in 2010 - It was MISERABLE. Sideways cold biting downpour for 3 quarters. I wouldn't take much away from this game on offense or on D. I think Jamie Morris dropped a 'Rain should slow the real fast guys and make the slow guys look normal' which looked to be exactly what happened.
is laughably bad.
I guess we have to take the bad with the good....
Well at least Fitz got on the field! If only for two plays...with the knee brace
