Michigan now leads NCAA in total passing defense by yards.

Previously Michigan was tied with Alabama with 1167 passing yards allowed. Following the Minnesota game, Michigan has given up 1314 yards through the air. Alabama has given up 262 so far to LSU with 6:44 remaining in the game, bringing their total to 1429. I'm damn proud of the defense this year, and having the top overall passing defense by yards going into week 11 is an astounding feat, especially with the loss of Blake Countess in week 1. Go Blue!

Wait Magnus, I thought you would at least bring up the mediocrity of JT Floyd, which is what usually happens. Btw I agree with you, just surprised you didn't mention it. He's been covering everything else more effectively lately, except for the deep ball. I'm with everyone else. The offenses haven't exactly been too competent in the air, but from where M defense was 2 years ago, it's an unbelievable turnaround. To not have the fear of God in you while the defense is on the field is refreshing as a fan. In fact, I usually expect good things from the defense now. GMAT!

I'm no longer terrified on 3rd and long on defense, which is a nice change from the past.  But even better is the feeling when our opponent faces a 3rd and short.  If they run the ball, I expect a stop.  I was afraid that our success last year was going to be mostly due to Mike Martin being a beast, but it's clear now that this defensive staff has got that part of the game (and most others for that matter) nailed down.

I feel like one thing that is being missed here is the fact that one part of the reason the passing numbers are so low are because of some of the long time-eating drives we have had offensively (maybe not so much lately, but definitely in the earlier games).  If we were still a hurry up spread offense a la Oregon then we would have way crappier defensive numbers, but way more awesome offensive numbers, so that is another tradeoff.
