Michigan now a 10 pt favorite/Drinking thread

Submitted by somewittyname on

Michigan has gone from -7.5 to -10 over the past couple hours. Just a lot of Friday night activity or Vegas knows something we don't?

Edit: While not intended, this appears to be the drinking thread as well. I'm enjoying some Brother Thelonious and from the other thread now watching The Big Chill.

I would think betting on total points being higher than expected would be a good bet. Everyone keeps saying "First one to ten wins" and "Big defensive battle" but that's ignoring turnovers that would put you in good position and special teams returns.

So I say we get over 20, too...if not by pounding it out, by other means...the team is focused on all facets of the game.

These things work by algos that adjust the line to activity like supply adjusts to demand. Michigan fans likely bid the line wider by betting on Michigan.

for real, what if this game is like the byu game--expecting a close game then Michigan comes out and steamrolls. The fans better be rowdy.

Harbaugh? Harbaugh.

to gametime is odd.  Is this all of Vegas?

Seems like it has to be one of 2 things

1)  Someone just dumped a truckload of cash on Michigan

2)  There is injury news (really bad news for NW) that someone has that we are unaware of.

Wouldn't more people bet on NU at +10 than +7.5? I think this change in the spread does encourage more money to be placed on NU to balance out the money (if huge sums were bet on UM recently) or the anticipated money (if major news is about to come out which will affect the game).

Chillin' with some Frankenmuth Hef Hefeweisen, very nice, and some Alaskan Amber. Maybe there is a new injury that we didn't know about on NW's roster to bump it 2.5 points.

I wonder if USC's loss to Washington played a role here?  With them falling Stanford suddenly looks a lot less impressive (haven't really beaten any great teams), which hurts NU's SOS.

So this may start some sort of dramatic situation but O'Korn just instagrammed a pic of Sione Houma with a bag of ice on his ankle, captioned "praying for you". Could be praying that he can go tomorrow, but either way if we have to miss Sione for any part of any game it hurts. He has been as good as Kerridge, if not better, which is saying something. Hopefully one of our dudes is good to go

At Icicle Brewery in Leavenworth, WA imbibing some Dirtyface Oktoberfest in preparation for Oktoberfest Festival tomorrow (after finding the one bar in the town that will show the game).

In San Francisco for a work conference. Drinking Kirin at a sushi joint in Lower Nob Hill. I will be ditching the conference to watch the game. No need for bar advice, I've had this planned out since the trip was booked. Unfortunately I can't expense booze.

Before everyone calls their bookie and puts their home on the line, I feel like I should come clean. The past four (dominant winning) weeks I've worn the same shirt/undershirt combo to work on Friday. I didn't think a thing about it until this morning when I went to get dressed and realized we haven't done laundry for the past EIGHT days, meaning the shirt combo sat wrinkled at the bottom of the hamper.
Now I assure you I'm not one to mess with such things. I don't believe in luck, I believe in providence. That said, I also believe Crash Davis wasn't wrong when he said (paraphrasing his "you gotta respect the streak" speech) "if you believe you're winning because you're wearing women's underwear then you are".
Out of a sense of duty, I assure you I dug to the bottom of the hamper to see if a re-wear was feasible, but alas, too wrinkled/funky to get away with wearing to the office.
I don't think my wardrobe has any impact on the results of 18-23 year olds 2000 miles away, and even if it did, well... Harbaugh!!! But just in case, I thought people should know before going all in betting the spread. Because of the shirt fiasco, I only feel comfortable about an 8 point M win.
My sincerest apologies to the entire fan base.

Often, whales like Billy Walters will place big money early in the week on the opposite side they really like. Once the play hits the number they want, they come over the top of the original bet and take the other side. This does two things, one, it gives them the best possible number and two, it give them a chance to middle the game.If I have a ticket with Michigan -7 and another with NW plus 10, if the game falls on 8 or 9, I win both bets

Fitzgerald is 1-6 v Michigan and his only win over us remains the 2008 rich rod year when we were 3-9, and even that was a 21-14 score (ie not a dominating win). And now he has to face Harbaugh after losing all those games to Rich Rod and Hoke. It really could be that simple.
