Can somebody explain to me the dynamic of Jumpman vs Nike? Is Jumpman just the line of shoes or is it an underling company?

That doesn't really answer my question. Is Jumpman an independent company now or just a clothing line by Nike? The reason I ask is because it seems unusual that people would make the distinction of saying "Nike for football and other sports. Jumpman for Bball" if that is in fact all Nike.

It's different technology mostly. Jordan brand shoes are designed to the specifications and inputs of Jordan-Brand athletes (as of now, Jordan himself, Russell Westbrook, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul and Blake Griffin) whereas Nike shoes are designed to the specifications and input of Nike athletes (LeBron, Kobe, Kevin Durant). Each athlete has a different shoe preference. For example Jordan Brand shoes have pioneered the "Flight Plate" technology, whereas Nike Shoes mostly feature Air Max technology (LeBron's especially). It's all really a function of whatever hooplah marketing buzzwords/technology you want to use in the design of your basketball shoe insole.
