Michigan NFL Draft Streak in Jeopardy?

Submitted by EastCoast Esq. on

Last year, Michigan football players were chosen in the NFL Draft for the 77th straight time. Only the USC Trojans can match that streak. Here's an article on it.

This year, none of our boys are expected to be drafted.

Is this something to be sad about? Or just an interesting factoid? I can't decide. But just thought I'd share.

Of course they then ended the year 7-6 and #56 (Massey). They didn't have a win over anybody that was even decent all year, unless you count the overtime game against Cal Poly who did pretty well in FCS.

They might have been 3-0 when we beat them but they were not a good team.

Not really surprised... As drjaws stated, many of the eligible players are staying, and this is also a consequence of the unlucky 2011 recruiting class. How many dudes are even left from that year?

This is a good question. I'm gonna guess not, he's listed as an Auburn CB. Strong chance he doesn't get drafted at all, so it might be a moot point in his case. But like does NC State claim Russell Wilson?

He inherited this crop of players. Wilson should have reached a draftable level and may with good pro day/workouts. None of our backs have panned out to be early entries and the same with our receivers. Lewis and Butt wouldve been taken fairly high if they chose to come out. Ojemudia would've gone late if not for the injury. Our LBs just aren't NFL guys on the surface. The size and speed isn't there.

Would you rather have guys like Butt and Lewis leave to make sure that is kept 100% intact.

With Harbaugh's contacts, I wouldn't doubt that Glasgow gets drafted in the later rounds.

Hopefully someone still gets drafted, but I view this as a bit more evidence of Hoke's failures in talent identification and development. His first full class is either seniors or redshirt juniors and was a highly regarded class but for the most part they haven't developed well enough to get drafted.

Part of it is timing, too, though, as we have a few juniors who chose not to go pro and Funchess went pro early when he would otherwise have been with this group.

We'll have a lot more guys getting drafted going forward, starting with a pretty strong group next year.

OK, but if Butt, Lewis, et. al. left early...

I guess I just don't see why this matters. It's not like Michigan is no longer attracting or developing top talent. This is just a fluke year.

Side note: Does anyone think O'Neill has a shot to get drafted? I think he does (assuming that ACL rumor is false).

A late round flyer wouldn't be out of the question if someone gets invited to the Combine (doubtful) and/or lights it up at Michigan's pro day. Glasgow, Morgan, Houma, Williams, Wilson, Clark... I'll throw out a 24% chance of it happening.
