Michigan Men's Swimming captures another B1G title!

The men's swim team is kicking its usual ass at the B1G championship meet at Indiana.  You can follow the results at http://iu.iuhoosiers.com/swimmeet/BigTenMen2013/

Tonight's finals, the last of the meet, start at 6:30 EST.  Michigan is leading with 601 points, followed by Indiana at 396, and then Ohio State at 309.

The highlight of the meet (at least for me) was the 1-2-3-4-6 finish in the 200 free.

Go Blue!

P.S.  It was semi-amusing watching Dave Brandon hand out awards, especially to those filthy Buckeyes.

Awesome to see the continued excellence in swimming.

Hopefully the expansion of the swimming facilities in Brandon's $250m capital project will only add to the UM mystique.

Fabulous job by the swimmers. The results would be even more lopsided if not for the diving events (e.g. - Indiana had 8 divers scoring higher than the top Michigan diver in the 3m). This puzzles me. Michigan has a rich diving tradition, an accomplished diving coach - why can't they seem to recruit top divers? That could really help at nationals.

They just won! The victors was played and then they all jumped in to the pool including the coach and sang Hail To The Victors.

It was really sweet to get to watch too! I work at the building where the meet is, so I got to watch right up close. The All-Big Ten team was basically 90% Michigan guys, some IU divers, and I think an OSU guy and maybe 2 or 3 Wisconsin guys. But there was just this massive line of Michigan swimmers when they announced the All-Big Ten or whatever it was for the meet. A Michigan swimmer also got freshman of the year! It was great to see even the coach jump in. After they sang The Victors, they were singing something to do with how great it was to be a Michigan Wolverine. You can tell the team has a lot of unity.

I'm sure its not the case anymore, but they used to have a really bad pool.  Their team I think is destined for mediocrity.  ohio used to be a pretty competitive team, but now they've really really started sucking it up.  And that's just too bad.   /s

On a side note, my fastest 1650 time in college would have gotten me 31st place in this meet.  22 yrs ago.  My goodness how fast kids have gotten nowadays.  Its scary.
