This is a bit of a relief.  I know there has been general euphoria around here, but until the contract is signed, anything could happen.  My worry was an NFL OC or college HC position might look more attractive to him.

Some threads, and sometimes the entire site, would not load for portions of yesterday evening. Had anything gotten in the way of this hire becoming official, I have a feeling that the site would have to be taken down to prevent physical damage to equipment, to say nothing about what many might do to their own computers.

Cautiously optimistic. For now I'll happily just take a guy who can get more consistent play out of Devin and make effective adjustments in-game. If he can find schemes to maximize the OL, awesome bonus, but for now, baby steps will be great.

You really think any reporter will have the stones to ask that?

That's a legitimate topic for question and discussion.

A move from Alabama OC to Michigan OC -- or any school OC for that matter -- is a lateral at best.  Alabama is rightly perceived as a top-tier school, and leaving it for the same position at another school naturally raises questions about the pros and cons Nussmeier weighed when making the decision.

I hope they do ask the question.  It doesn't have to be framed in a dickish way ... just an open question along the lines of: "Would you explain what your thinking was when comparing the position at Michigan with what you had at Alabama?"  If he goes all coach-speak, then okay ... it's what they do.  But it's possible he'd give a glimpse into the decision process.

We didn't steal him from bama? He was asked to look around by nick saban ala kiffin being called in to do some " offensive evaluating " ya he will be named their offensive coordinator relatively soon. Nuss made a great move I think with all the wealth of offensive line talent and running backs we have coming back. He brings something to the table none of our staff has yet to accomplish, a bcs national championship ring. He knows what it takes to win and hopefully can bring his Oline coach to develop these guys. It makes no sense why our line was so bad. But for you guys to think we stole him from is pretty stupid.

than getting a great young OC who has developed players and won at the highest level. This move means Hoke acknowledges there was a problem on offense, that it's his responsibility to fix it and that appropriate action was taken.  I don't think I'm the only one here who had serious doubts that any of these things would come to pass.  It's encouraging at a time when encouragement is badly needed.

Sometimes you just have to go back to the old X's and O's and draw up a new game plan ... Welcome coach Nuss , hope we enjoy your time here at Big Blue !

Has there been any word yet on what kind of offense he plans to bring?

I know at Bama he ran the pro-style and I don't know if that is why it didn't work out as his roots are with the spread, going all the way back to playing qb for John L. Smith at Idaho.

I've been a fan of his since his days at MSU under JLS.  While those were not good days overall for MSU football, the problems were with the defense.  The offense was putting up huge numbers.
