Michigan leads for CA DE Joe Mathis

Submitted by DGDestroys on

Obviously, it's just been one visit, and there's a ton of time 'til NSD, so take it FWIW

From Steve Wiltfong on 247sports. H/T to MGoBlueGr for noticing this.

With a day to sleep on it, Joe Mathis tells me Michigan is his leader following yesterday's visit.

From Steve at Tremendous

Joe Mathis has been with David Dawson and Khalid Hill since the linemen gathered

Mattison told Mathis if he wants to play in the NFL to come to Michigan

Mathis said when he pulled up that Coach Ferrigno was waiting for him. He really liked that.

Joe could barely find the words to describe the Big House. Said walking down the tunnel was magical.

He plans to take his official during his bye week this season. Still coming with Sua.

From Sam Webb

Upland, CA DE Joe Mathis said he got chills walking down the tunnel at #michigan stadium yesterday

Mathis also said #michigan will be in his top 5 and he guaranteed an official visit to Ann arbor in the fall

#michigan oline commit David Dawson said he can't wait to get at Mathis on the field today, but will really recruit him off of it

For good effect, here's an interview and some clips of his performance at the Nike Camp last week.

Ive heard a lot of good things about this Mgobluegr guy, he sounds awesome. Also, I talked with all the Cass underclassmen in attendance and I've got a feeling Will White is going to have a big day.

Hopefully this at least ensures that S'ua will visit Michigan with Joe liking it so much and them possibly wanting to go to same school. I know Nebraska has one of their ex teammates on the roster, but if they are considering playing that far east and in the Big Ten we have a shot if S'ua comes to AA for a visit.

Beyond the major sites, does anyone else find it kind of weird how random blogs continue to pop up everywhere that have contact with these recruits? Of course you have those blogs that have established themselves over time and become credentialed (Here, BHGP, Black Shoe Diaries, etc...), but every day there seems to be a new "reporter" who gets in contact with these kids and have something to say about their recruitment.

I can now see why the recruitment process gets old for some kids so quickly. Beyond Rivals, Scout, 24/7, their subsidiary sites, and major credentialed blogs, it seems that any schmo who has facebook and a blogspot address can hound you endlessly for info.

I totally agree. And in order for the no-name blogs to establish themselves, they have an incentive to contact everyone who might be relevant. It's hard for the recruits to know which sites are relevant and legit for each program, and it's not like they're trained in how to deal with this (nor are the "reporters" for that matter). Hell, some of the sites have been contacting kids in the Class of 2015 just a few months after those kids left middle school.

On his twitter, after Mathis and Dawson went at it for the second time .. one of the other players said "it doesn't matter you're gonna end up on the same team anyway" - GO BLUE!

Though the chances seem to be really improving, I say this knowing full well that Mathis may not end up at Michigan, but if he did, Mathis would be the best D-line recruit to come to Michigan sense B. Graham/Woodley.  In my mind he is that type of talent.  People who read what I write about recruits know that I am far from the flowery talkers when it comes to Michigan recruits, and I usually try to give an even review of recruits based on what I see, both positives and negatives.  But I really, really like the way Mathis plays the game.

Though it is obviously part of the deal, people really should slow their roll on how recruiting Mathis could help with Su'a.  Su'a is a great player as well, but Michigan is recruiting Mathis for Mathis, not for a better shot at Su'a.  No one should confuse this.  People need to really start watching this kid and getting really pumped about Michigan's chances with him without even bringing in how it may play into Su'a's recruitment, because in my mind Mathis will end up a better recruit than any Michigan D-line commit sense B. Graham, and very possibly talked about in the same ilk.  That's how well I think Mathis can play the 5 or 3 technique at the next level.

The main reason that people think Mathis's recruitment affects Cravens is that I was under the impression the two of them said it was a likely possibility that they play college ball together. It has nothing to do with thinking Mathis isn't immensely talented in his own right. I don't know how fans aren't immediately going to tie the two of them together, because Cravens' feelings about Michigan directly affect Mathis coming here if they intend on playing together.

With Mathis - and therefore possibly Cravens - getting a little more likely over the last 24 hours, something like this seems possible:

Isaac, Treadwell, another WR, Poggi, Mathis, Gedeon, Levenberry, Cravens

I'd be shocked if we got all of those guys, but anything close would be ridiculous.

http://m.espn.go.com/wireless/?w=1bn0w&i=COMR Seminoles made a huge push. Being a football alum of Fsu I can say that Fsu is a very attractive place for recruits. I think levenberry should go to Michigan though, as I feel the environment will be better for him...not to mention Michigan is a better school academically. The longer this recruitment drags out...the more likely this kid ends up a seminole. We shall see. I still dislike the logic on passing up on Dorian. That was foolish. Id take Odaniel any day of the week

According to CBS sports review of the Adidas Invitational, Joe Mathis almost commited to Michigan:

"I was going to (commit) but I said that would be selfish because I didn't see other schools," he said. "Michigan is number one on my list. I don't have a top five, it's Michigan and that's it. I did have a top five with USC but I was like, that's selfish of me because I didn't see other schools. Coming out here, my mom was saying it was going to be too cold out here but this is me. I love the coaches and this is me out here."

I think it's safe to say we're in REALLY good shape with Mathis.

"Ohio is definitely building a great recruiting class and that will keep them good," he said. "But I feel like we should beat them four years in a row. I definitely don't plan on losing to Ohio at all."- Shane Morris

Shane Morris hasn't even touched the field in a Michigan jeresy but he isn't afraid to talk. What do you guys think of his confidence. I love it. Go Blue
