Michigan hockey takes on LSSU tonight, let's break this slump and get three points.
Michigan - Lake Superior Open Thread
but it's eight bucks for tonight and another eight tomorrow, plus some other longer term options if you want to start watching LSSU athletics online. I don't want to sound like such a broken record (I feel like I say this almost every weekend), but LSSU and Ferris and whoever else having these options available and Michigan doing nothing similar just seems ridiculous.
They should make it free
I don't know what the market is for hockey viewing online, but Michigan might be able to finance something free through some kind of advertising, especially if they used broadcasting students like they do for "BTN Campus" or whatever they call the version that's only available on Big Ten university networks.
Either way, I'd gladly pay LSSU's prices to watch all of the non-nationally televised games. $75 works out to something like five bucks a game; I get more value out of that than ESPNU or some of the other cable sports networks on my cable tier.
Not bashing Dave Brandon, but why would he put hockey on for free if he could charge for it - and get advertising money, too?
Still, it does seem strange that other schools have this, and we don't.
and I'd gladly pay and watch commercials; I just think it might be possible to break even without subscription fees, which is what the guy above suggested.
Hopefully the BTN takes over and knows what they're doing next year, even if that requires buying a premium package for cable or online. $100 to catch every Big Ten hockey game along with some kind of permium previews or wrap up shows would get a lot of buyers between M, MSU, Minnesota and Wisconsin, and maybe a few people would pull the trigger in State College or Columbus.
Because it's not all about revenue. Give some students an opportunity to broadcast it and just let them have fun. It would be nice for the fans and a nice gesture by Brandon.
I get where you're coming from, but I think DB is about the revenue, or at least what facilities can be upgraded (etc.) with mo' money.
BTN may take over, but I wonder if a stream would be a crappy viewing experience, because maybe the number of U-M viewers would be more bandwidth than they anticipated.
I think the amount of revenue would be marginal and not worth the effort.
Maybe the revenue would be marginal, but every little bit adds up, and the effort is worth it, because This is Michigan, Fergodsakes.
The opportunity cost would probably outweigh the revenue gained. Also what would they do with the revenue? Probably not much and it's not like they need more money.
Doesn't the cost of most sports outweigh the revenue gained? Any revenue goes into the AD account. Maybe they don't need more money, but I also don't think DB would agree with that.
Yea so why would they dig an even deeper hole? Of course DB would disagree. The point is that generating revenue with everything they do is unnecessary, this isn't a for profit operation.
What hole? The AD is in the black, right? No, it's not for profit, but are there any free athletic events that aren't trying to raise money for charity?
MUST. WIN. GAMES. NAOW!!!1!
Everytime I see these threads now I'm afraid to click on them and see what the score is. At this piont I'm just hoping for another magical CCHA tourney run.
Please please please win
Ugh, I see we're in a three-way tie for 8th place w/ Bowling Green and FYS, and BG has played two fewer games.
I be like dang! When's the last time we scored first, let alone had a two-goal lead?
WE WANT MOARRRRRRRR GOALS!!!
ABOUT TIME!! Finally, a game I don't feel like committing suicide over
Wow, shots were 12-1 us before they had those two. Now 13-3, and we're on the PP.
DeBlois with that 2nd goal.
And no joy on the PP. /sigh
Screw that! We scored first, then again in 20 sec - why not add a PPG?
Who knew a change in my jersey choice would result in this? Usually I wear my 2008-09 - 2010-11 diagonal Michigan third jersey for all games. But tonight I'm wearing the jersey Michigan wore in the GLI I recently bought.
You're welcome guys.
This is what I've been saying all year. Simple hockey, get it on net, see what happens. No more finesse.
Close it out with a big win please!!
Dang, they score. 2-1 now.
I blame the OHL. I my 30 years of attending UM hockey games, from when I was five, this is as tough as I can remember. I have 90s nostalgia for hockey....and everything else.
The NCAA could change things to help even the playing field, but they don't.
Moffatt!! 3-1 U-M!!! WOOOOO!!!
Moffatt makes it 3-1.
Responding to adversity? What's gotten into these guys
I would love to see a hot streak heading toward the tourney. Our only chance for an NCAA bid.
Phil diGiuseppe!!! 4-1!!!!
They score, 4-2 U-M.
Hope Clare will be OK after blocking a shot. Props to him.
Michigan took care of the storm aka the 2nd period. Has been the worst period so far for them this season and as long as they score goals in it, it's been a success.
Gotta close this one out now.
Alaska currently up 3-2 on ND. Don't want teams around us to gain points, but for ND to lose at home ...
Anytime they lose I smile all day! Especially in football.
Chiasson saves, but ref awards a penalty shot. Boo!
They score, 4-3 U-M.
Since I can't watch the game, and there's no Friday drinking thread, I thought I should announce here that I'm celebrating the UP by watching "Escanaba in da Moonlight" and drinking some Buds.
Also, good to see the team playing better. Thanks for the updates on the thread.
8:20 left in the 3rd. So glad we're responding quickly after they score.
I thought this thread was about how great Lake Superior is.
I thought this thread was about how great Lake Superior is.
Dang, BG beat WMU 3-2. In the 3rd: AK 4, ND 3; FSU 2, MSU 1.
Another how do I feel about this? Last place NMU is up 3-2 on OSU in the 3rd.
Let's go blue!!!!!
Drat, they score. 5-4.
1 min to go, they've pulled their goalie.
6-4, empty netter!
Phew. But they had to make us sweat for at least a little bit
Guptill with the last goal, carried it into the zone till he had a good shot.
Thank God! Now win tomorrow!
AK beat ND, 5-4. NMU beat OSU 4-2. I think FSU beat MSU, but CCHA website doesn't say final, but if true, it would mean MSU has last place all to themselves.
Edit: Yes, MSU was the only team of the bottom five not to win.
This is why no one would take the MSU job. Comley recruited so poorly on the blueline that Anastos has to patch together pairs with early 20's USHL players, transfers and converted forwards.
It's much nicer to write about a game after we win.
to see Michigan and Michigan State occupying the last 2 spots of the CCHA standings
It would be indeed strange to see that. We're tied for 8th with BG, NMU is 10th, and MSU is last.
