Michigan-Italy Trip

Submitted by AHM16 on

By any chance does anybody know if we will have access to watching any of the games that are gonna be played this week? Whether tape delay or live?

I think the best you can hope for is some postgame highlights posted at mgoblue.com. The games on these foreign tours are rarely live-streamed. So far, they haven't even set up a special page on the website for the Italy tour like they did for the tour four years ago.

On Twitter, by the way, you can follow coverage of the trip through #ForzaBlu.

One thing - don't freak out if we play poorly in this tour.  Before the 2010-11 season we went to Europe and looked awful.  The level of competition is pretty stiff in these things and we're very early on in team chemistry building.  That 2011 team ended up pretty good by the end of the season.

I think the level of competition varies quite a bit. I suspect the competition on this trip won't be as tough as some of the teams they faced in 2010. Some of these all-star teams that are thrown together for these foreign tours aren't that good. Last summer, the Vincenza All-Stars (one of the teams Michigan will play) lost to both Clemson and Rhode Island. The Clemson page linked says they won the first three games on their Italy tour.

In the end, winning the games is far from the most important part of these tours. The extra practices, the chance to play some live games, and the opportunity for team bonding are all more important than winning. And I'm sure Beilein will be experimenting with all sorts of lineups, and that will lead to some stretches where the team struggles.

WD is like the MGoBlog mascot...he's adorable, lovably annoying, freaks a few people out for no real reason and always finds his way into every topic. Dave Brandon should take notes. WD knows how to appeal to the masses.
