Michigan - Iowa Game Thread

Submitted by mGrowOld on

I've never done one of these before but it's about 20 minutes to kick-off and none of the usual suspects have stepped forward so I guess it's time.  I'm feeling good about this game and think Michigan wins 24-14.  Meanwhile, over on ESPN Sparty takes on the Cats at noon so we've got plenty of Michigan (the state of)  football to watch early.

We will be 7-4 after this game. 7-5 after next week. If we had won all of the close games, we could be 10-2 (assuming OSU game is not close). If we had lost all the close games (ND, Akron, UConn, Northwestern), we could have been 3-9. So 7-5 is about right for this team. Which, by the way, is pathetic for a coach in his 3rd year in this bad conference.

When we lose next week, we'll have lost four of our last five.  We're an OT win over a terrible team away from a very Rodriguez like five straight losses to close out the season.  We've utterly collapsed.

This is a team that has thrown in the towel completely.  No defending coaches that allow this to happen.

Giving up a 3rd and 12. That said, the defense played well enough to win (given Iowa's propensity to self-destruct) if the offense had done anything whatsoever.

Game over

11-2, 8-5 and probably 7-6 this year.  I can only imagine how our O will be when Borges gets all his guys in here.

Program is going in a bad direction.  Wonder how many seats will be available at Michigan Stadium next year.

Great records when you live in the past. Put up the records of the last 6  to 10 years. We are now one of the bottom teams in the Big Ten with no light at the end of the tunnel until we get the right coach. 9 years without a Big Ten title and we are years away from competing for one.

Entire staff needs to be fired after OSU, this team embarrassed themselves today and are very poorly prepared in all phases. We would be third tier MAC team.

Time to accept it, stop with the apologies and rationalizations.  We are ND.  We are a middling program with a second rate head coach.  Our shit conference has 1 real team willing to do what it takes to compete at the SEC level.  We lose to teams with fat slow RB and TE that play like its still the 1970's.

The Hoke hire sealed the fact that we are happy with a 9-3 quintessential Lloyd Carr season.  Cant win on the road, can't improve his players or the team.  Hoke is not bringing us anywhere near elite.

There is a lot of mutual respect between Ferentz and Hoke, both unimaginative mediocre Midwest Manball coaches.  They enjoy watching their players smash heads and play not to lose.  Game was a slow, boring, and physical contest between two B1G dinosaur after thought programs.

Their handshake at midfield was a hardy Bob Vila-esque tip of the hat, each acknowledging the other's unwillingness to try anything creative or shoot for any sort of greatness.  Both believe if they could just execute better they would actually have good teams....schemes are not important.

"returned to near Michigan levels" - Oh, you mean the defenses that won us all of 1/2 NT in 50 years.  Need to coach both sides of the ball and stop trying to build the team in the mold of something that was meh successful for decades.  Praying for 97 defense every year is what is wrong with this program.

I was going to get tickets to The Game, but I decided to save the money and save myself the punch in the nuts.

Good lord, I have no faith we'll even score a point next week.

Never have I called for Hoke to be fired. But rationally thinking, how is he in any way outperforming Rich Rod? Sure, he had the 11-2 debut, but he has regressed to equal RR's output, where at least RR progressed to that point.
