When was our last big play, like 30+ yard play? Indiana?

Michigan - Iowa Game Thread
Tell me that dude stepped our of bounds
Wow. Just wow.
Damn, DG
Ok. I have had it. Bench Gardner. He is just terrible
you have to expect that kind of thing
Gardener still fucking sucks
I am crying now
THROW THE BALL
Im almost glad we're going to lose so people will stop giving Borges a bunch of free passes. If we win, no one is going to remember we have like 50 yards of offense this half and this crap is going to continue for another year or two
This is not all Borges. Gardner is playing the worst game of his career today. Slightly better than the other 3 worst of his career, which were the last 3 weeks
Worse, not better
And it's not just the half. We have no offensive yards
we get into FG range
and
we can't hold on to the freaking ball.
Give the job to Shane and make Devin a WR next year...
Idiot
What do we have to lose at this point?
As bad as Gardner has been, we have no evidence that Morris can play at all.
Yes, because I'd love to ruin a true freshman QB's confidence forever by allowing him to get manhandled and humiliated by OSU next week.
The guy who runs the cafeteria at the hospital I work at really reminds me of big AL B. It doesn't matter what he makes he always uses the same two spices. He's affectionately known as "tony two spice".
Borges and his three plays a game remind me a lot of tony, and though I won't call Al anything affectionately, I will call him Al three spice from now on. Please DB, leave Al in Iowa after this game.
Ohio State fans may actually give Gardner a standing ovation next week if he doesn't improve.
Wow, Hoke is pretty fired up. NOT!
Something is very wrong with Michigan. #InDepthAnalysis.
Dang
Please tell me that we will indeed fire people after the season? That's the only solace I take.
Three time outs left. Cmon D.
Gardner sucks so badly
Our D deserves better than this O.
Well stop em here and get the ball back
3 and out boys
Gardner made a mistake, no doubt about it. Yet why was Michigan in a position that they needed a game winning drive in the final few minutes? Because up until that point the Borges offense managed six yards total offense...
Dude Gardner has played really really bad today. This game is not on Borges
Because Michigan sucks this year.
Dave Brandon should just meet Al Borges and Darrell Funk when they get off the bus in A2 and give them their pink slips. Well earned today
Fuck them. They suck at their jobs and deserve to be fired. No excuse for the regression that has resulted from their tenures.
That is all
So Iowa has 2 missed field goals, 4 turnovers, and they still are going to, in all likelihood, win the game?
Why does that sound about right?
Missed 1 fg. One of the turnovers was on the botched fg snap
Everything. Especially Borges
There is no defense Michigan's offense can't make look spectacular.
My God Mason hates Michigan.
I can't tell if our defense sucks. I think they do. I KNOW our offense sucks.
You've got to be kidding me? The defense played great this game. The offense and al Borges lost this game
Our defense does not suck, our offense and special teams do and and puts our defense in bad places consistently.
Without Ross and Morgan filling gaps we're getting killed up front, Gedeon looks lost out there.
There is no defense Michigan's offense can't make look spectacular.
Ain't that the truth.
I'm going to stab me eyeballs now.
Iowa doesn't deserve the hardest working players. Borges does.
Is just mad bc Navarre scored against him on a 40 td reception Hahha.
They always deflate as soon as the offense blows the game. Now they're giving up 20 yard runs to that fat slow RB.
I can't defend him any longer! Time to move on! There is no excuse for that fumble.
Gardner is a shell of his former self.
What is his former self?
Who's excited to see 30,000 osu fans in Michigan Stadium next week?
Honestly I hope it's not more.
I just don't get him. He preaches toughness and physical play. But after three seasons, his team is the exact opposite of that. Whatever he is doing at practice, it's Fucking wrong!!!!!
Random media guy: "coach Hoke-your offense gained all of 32 yards in the second half with 26 of them coming on the last drive where Garner fjumbled. Does that change your feeliing about the offensie at alll"
Hoke: "Absolutely NOT. Matter of fact I gave Big Al a contract extension at the end of the game. He's ithe BEST."
We need a better S&C program for the D if they have to play the whole game.
Taylor likes to run along with tailbacks... TACKLE THEM!!!!
Hilarious, first TO of the day and all of a sudden all the blame is placed on DG. You guys forget how we got 21 pts? 7 from the defense, 14 from DG bailing out Borges' ass.
I have been blaming Gardner all game. He has been terrible. The fumble was just the most recent. Terrible decisions, tentative running, and errant throws.
Yes, you have been blaming him all game. Your biases have been made clear which is why I haven't addressed you. There's been PLENTY of blame to go around.
That is because you are a fucking idiot.
I feel bad for Devin. Borges puts him into such a tough position with his shitty play calling and Devin has been trying to compensate by making big plays and probably trying too hard to make it happen.
Morris can't get a series? How is a 3 and out or a sack any worse than the garbage Gardner is producing?
Pathetic. Worst offense I've ever seen this team have. Been watching for 20+ years. Can't run the ball, can't throw the ball.
Get ready for a 45-0 beatdown next week.
Is if Ohio calls off the dogs, otherwise I would expect some kind of rilvary record in points by Ohio
They had a 14 point lead in the second and have already given up 17. Unacceptable! We knew going in that we were going to need the defense.
They were on the field pretty much the ENTIRE half and scored 7 of the 21 points we have.
This does not in any way change the fact that Borges needs to take a hike!
I don't disagree with that, but your post didn't mention Borges at all. You attacked the defense.
They've been on the field the majority of the second half. They looked tired on the last two drives. Iowa's Oline been bossing then around
Everybody wants Shane Morris to play until he actually does and plays like a freshman. Then it's going to be "Shane sucks! Get rid of this guy. Whose idea was it to play him anyway?"
He would get murdered- this offense has no identity, attitude and barely a pulse
No really, he can't be worse than the regression we have seen with Gardiner. He is just plain bad right now!
No really, he can't be worse than the regression we have seen with Gardiner. He is just plain bad right now!
You've misspelled it like 5 times now, it's Gardner, no "I"
Yes Gardner has made a few plays but his bad overshadows his good. He hesitates on throws, never checks to other receivers, refused to run north and get the easy yards, etc, etc.
Ya? You try being led by Borges. You would be in the fetal position begging for mercy too.
Which offense was worse? Michigan 2013 or Michigan 2008 (RR year 1)?
in Iowa's position there, Borges calls a run
This one. In 2008 the offense was at least able to generate positive yards.
2013 because in 2008 there was a good reason for the offense. Michigan had just lost every skill position from 2007.
We will be 7-4 after this game. 7-5 after next week. If we had won all of the close games, we could be 10-2 (assuming OSU game is not close). If we had lost all the close games (ND, Akron, UConn, Northwestern), we could have been 3-9. So 7-5 is about right for this team. Which, by the way, is pathetic for a coach in his 3rd year in this bad conference.
Great call
The offensive staff can't be let go soon enough
Fuck. Fire. Borges. Damn. Suck
When we lose next week, we'll have lost four of our last five. We're an OT win over a terrible team away from a very Rodriguez like five straight losses to close out the season. We've utterly collapsed.
This is a team that has thrown in the towel completely. No defending coaches that allow this to happen.
Giving up a 3rd and 12. That said, the defense played well enough to win (given Iowa's propensity to self-destruct) if the offense had done anything whatsoever.
+ all the points to the first person to create the Fire Borges thread
commence meltdown
Game over
11-2, 8-5 and probably 7-6 this year. I can only imagine how our O will be when Borges gets all his guys in here.
Program is going in a bad direction. Wonder how many seats will be available at Michigan Stadium next year.
My faith in this coaching staff, particularly the offensive staff, is waning by the week.
Hey guys, remember when we used to make fun of MSU's offense?
Yikes....
Blow this one
...
Great records when you live in the past. Put up the records of the last 6 to 10 years. We are now one of the bottom teams in the Big Ten with no light at the end of the tunnel until we get the right coach. 9 years without a Big Ten title and we are years away from competing for one.
Well not as bad as the 1 v 2 Chuck Long loss in '85 but very very bad nonetheless.
Losing to Iowa sucks because Iowa is not very good. But neither is Michigan.
This one does not mean anything.
Entire staff needs to be fired after OSU, this team embarrassed themselves today and are very poorly prepared in all phases. We would be third tier MAC team.
And ND just went to NCG
Iowa celebrating as if they just beat a good team. Might as well go nuts after beating Iowa State.
What? They did that, too?
If Borges isn't fired, I have lost faith in Hoke.
Very true dude. Borges needs to go.
This is all the fault of not having a separate second half thread.
So we have an outsider (RRod) a shot at the coaching job and now a "Michigan Man" a shot as well. Don't know where Michigan goes from here.
Like it or not RR had much better offenses, maybe they should have just hired Mattison.
I would have agreed up to today, this team shows nothing and is getting beat up, no emotion, poorly prepared. Out coached yet again in all phases. That's on Hoke.
...billboards in the stadium.
next week should be fun.
Might as well bend over now and get ready for it. It's going to hurt reeeeeaaaaal bad.
17 - 0 in the 2nd half. 4 Iowa tunovers did not hurt them. 1 Michigan turnover killed us.
what killed us was getting outgained by 250 yards. Without those TOs Iowa wins 27-7 or so and the 4th quarter is garbage time.
Ferentz tells Leman "You know football better than I do." That's the guy that just outcoached our guy.
Mullets
I chucked when he said that
Lots of players on the field with their helmets off. /s
I feel bad for the players
They are not playing it is not all coaching, got to show something they are rolling over
on D.
I was going to get tickets to The Game, but I decided to save the money and save myself the punch in the nuts.
Good lord, I have no faith we'll even score a point next week.
Never have I called for Hoke to be fired. But rationally thinking, how is he in any way outperforming Rich Rod? Sure, he had the 11-2 debut, but he has regressed to equal RR's output, where at least RR progressed to that point.
Hoke: 26 wins
Rich: 15 wins
11-2 season was with all RR players.
Yup. He realized what he had. Ran a good system for Denard et al and Put them in a position to win. Something we know rich rod could not do. I'm not real happy with Hoke right now either, but to say they are now at the same point is not something I agree with. This is assuming of course, Hoke can assess the offense in the off season objectively
UM got blown out in all of their losses his final season. I'm not happy about this team but if you start making those comparisons, you won't be making the point you think you are making
This team is not well prepared or playing well in any phase. 11-2 to 6-7/7-7. There is talent and it is not performing in any phase to the degree necessary to win in this conference? The teen and body of work is in the wrong direction.
Sorry, the trend of this staff is not encouraging
Thay are both very avg.
I just don't know if I can keep doing this to myself. If the powers that be don't care enough about this football team to make tough decisions and hire competent coaches than why should I care this much about this team.
I just feel terrible for the players. They put their faith and careers in the hands of this staff and those on offense couldn't have been let down more if they had been coached by my grandmothers lawn bowling team. I just don't know what to say anymore.
Assuming a loss next week (and I think that's safe to do,) we're two plays away from being 5-7 with losses to UConn and Akron.
This hasn't just been a bad season, this has been one of the worst seasons in modern Michigan football history. The only reason that isn't jumping out at people more is because the Rodriguez era distorted our perception of success and failure. This has been a disaster.
Can a coaching staff rebound, not from a disappointing season but a disatrous season? I don't think that happens too often.
Except we should have lost to Northwestern to and could easily been 4-8. Gardner is Horrible. Before anybody defends him some of the sacks are his fault because of poor judgement. Turn overs, poor decisions. He just is not the answer. Our two best offensive lineman are gone after this year. If the recruits now start falling we are in a tailspin unti you start over with another coach and he has a few years again. Many top programs such as Alabama, USC etc have gone through this same thing until finally finding the righ coach. 9 years without winning the big ten with no end in sight. 1-5 against MSU and worse against Ohio. We are a bottom program in the Big Ten for the last 6 years now. With the recruiting we have had this is ALL COACHING. My hopes were high for Hoke but he now seems in over his head. I would say unfortunately one more year and if we do not turn this around with beating our rivals and getting to the BIg ten Championship game he should go. 4 years and they are then all his players. He needs to fire Borges and the offensive line coach after the year or all but Mattison need to go after next year. He will not make the tough decisions he needs to. Cannot wait for the day this program is back. It will be someday but I am afraid we have a few more years to wait.
I'm not saying they should fire Hoke; okay maybe I am, but hire a frikin' coach who's going to bring Michigan back to glory. I don't care who it is, just pay the man.
I think the people hating on Gardner are a bunch of shitheads and I hope they defect to OSU. Yes DG should have gone out of bounds, it was a good play by the D.
I still think he can be a very good player, but the guys running the show aren't up for the job.
It was an improved game for Borges but that isn't saying much. Greg Davis probably called a better game, maybe, I don't know, its a toss-up.
At the end of the year DB needs to have a sit-down with Hoke, heart-to-heart and if he doesn't like what he hears i.e. the offensive coaches are doing a great job... it may be time to fire Brady Hoke. Part of it depends on what's available right now.
Gardner is a good young man. Just a very poor quarterback. Count the turnovers this year. He makes poor decisions and to many times takes to long to make decisions. Yes he has a chance to be average with an offensive line and a beeter game plan but he will never be good. Hoke needs to make tough decisions to fire Borges and the offensive line coach or he needs to go.
Are you saying "Boo" or "Boo-orges"?
We needed the win for our psyche, the players' foremost. And maybe a few hundred MGoFollowers.
Urban will do anything possible to run up the score next week to impress voters and win recruits. Not good.
By and large, the Michigan I grew up with made half-time adjustments and owned the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.
Just discouraging.
The bowl game match up should be interesting.
So sick of hearing about Hoke being a great recruiter. It's not showing up on the field, in fact I see RR's guys still doing most of the heavy lifting on this team and I fear for next year when our only 2 functional O linemen are gone, our #1 WR is gone, and the Gordons are not making plays on defense anymore.
This is Michigan, I expect top 10 classes every year, and Hoke has delivered, but we have the 15th ranked class so far for 2014, and it's not likely to improve all that much, that's not GREAT recruiting.
Hoke has to be held responsible.
That's because the seniors , the relatively few that are on the team, are RR's guys. Of course they're doing the 'heavy lifting', they're seniors.
Go back and look at the 2010 class, see how few kids are on the roster now. RR didn't do well recruiting here. But then of course he had people undermining him, to their everlasting shame.
Most of Hoke's players are RS freshmen or sophomores, and they're playing, including a lot of freshmen.
