Michigan - Iowa Game Thread

Submitted by mGrowOld on

I've never done one of these before but it's about 20 minutes to kick-off and none of the usual suspects have stepped forward so I guess it's time.  I'm feeling good about this game and think Michigan wins 24-14.  Meanwhile, over on ESPN Sparty takes on the Cats at noon so we've got plenty of Michigan (the state of)  football to watch early.

Well, the defensive TD skews this a little bit, but we're being outgained and have run fewer plays on offense and yet we are up 21-7. 113 yards on 34 plays comes out to what seems like a predestrian 3.32 yards per snap. Iowa has 170 yards on 36 plays, which is 4.72 yards per snap. In other good news, three 3rd down conversions for a 37.5% success rate in the half. Achievement unlocked, right?

Gardner is 8 for 16 with 62 yards, which translates to 7.75 yards per catch and 3.88 YPA.

Defense is, again, playing well. Offense if, surprisingly, playing above average. Running game is so-so, passing game, with the exception of uncharacteristic-like drops by Funchess, is pretty good also.

BTW you guys, when we got the pick-six, we set the all-time record for most games without a shutout in CFB history.

362 games in a row without a goose egg, I believe.

1). While we obviously excel at the fire drill FG, you don't want to count on it. It was 3rd down, so you want to leave plenty of time in car you get tackled on the field.

2) everyone on here complains about playing not to lose, yet complains louder when they don't play pessimistically and it bites them. After that 2nd quarter you can't be afraid of them going the length of the field I'm 30 seconds. Now, why would you kick it deep giving them their only chance at a big play? I'd back that argument.

Defense good for the most part. Still need to see us sustain some success on offense. All in all, stress is low right now. Jake Ryan is my first half MVP
