It's a good game to watch if you're a Jordan Howard fan.  I'm guessing Don Brown wouldn't have let him run for a million yards.

Truly an average defense from winning 10 games. That said, I agree that our late season defensive meltdown wasn't as much to do with Glasgow but our talent. We won't be back at par with osu for a few years. They ran it all over us because we had no LBs and their OL beat the shit out of our DL. An effective spread is still a problem for us and talent is the biggest reason why. Hoke recruited for 1997 CFB and that's fine if you're Alabama, LSU, etc. We had Morgan, Bolden and Ross trying to defend a spread offense lined with 4-5 star athletes. Indiana had less talent but the speed alone had the front 7 out of whack. The downside of being a pro-style team is that you have to recruit at a truly elite level to keep up with spread teams that can recruit at an elite level. You have a run of 20th ranked classes and teams like osu will out-athlete you. You essentially have to be 2000s USC or Bama to keep up. We're not even close to that level and until we are osu will outscore us and we'll have a hard time with well-run spread offenses. When we recruit on defense like an elite team for multiple years we'll put teams like Indiana away easy and osu will be a game again.

Ross shouldn't be lumped in with Morgan and Bolden. He's actually the kind of guy you want in this day and age—a smaller linebacker who can still hit. His problem was he became a man without a country when Jake Ryan moved inside a couple years back.

Bolden's problem wasn't really speed per se, either. He struggled diagnosing plays, which made him arrive late (or not at all).

Still Ben, it's freaking Indiana.  The same Indiana team that had no B1G wins.  The same Indiana team that gave up 47 to Southern Illinois. The same Indiana team that gave up 35 to Western Kentucky.  The same Indiana team that gave up 55 to Rutgers.

Next man up - I don't want to hear about no Glasgow or Mone when we play THAT team.

They had two Big Ten wins which is why they played in a bowl game. They also lost by one score to Michigan, Ohio State, Iowa, Rutgers, and were down by one score vs Michigan State in the 4th quarter. It's okay, you can admit it: Indiana was  decent at football in 2015.

At the time we played them, Indiana was 0-5 in the B1G.  Yeah, they beat Maryland and Purdue giving up 64 combined points.  Those two came in dead last in each division. They beat Southern Illinois, FIU, Western Kentucky, and Wake Forest by a combined 25 points while giving up 128 to those powerhouses.

That's not much of a resume.  Indiana was not decent at football in 2015 unless your definition of decent means not coming in last.  That's not my definition.

and it was very frustrating that Michigan could not stop IU. Their OL just dominated us as the game went on. I'm just glad Rudock had a big game.

Ugh, I can't think of a Michigan win I'd less want to re-watch than this. Watching the D line get slashed without Glasgow was no bueno and was a canary in the coal mine for OSU.

That game has been part of an annoying trend of Indiana shredding our defense lately. Pull out your puke buckets for these stats: 2009: 479 total yards (282 pass, 197 run) 2010: 594 total yards (506 pass, 88 run) 2013: 572 total yards (410 pass, 162 run) 2015: 527 total yards (220 pass, 307 run) Our only "saving grace" performance against Indiana in the last several years was 2014, which involved holding their backup QB to 24 yards passing and giving up 167 yards on the ground. But that game may have been our one shining moment since the season had already gone to crap and Brady Hoke was a dead coach walking at that time. I was kind of hoping the days of giving up 500+ yards to IU was over but then last year happened.

Good question.  Out of curiosity, I looked up their stats against all other B1G opponents those same seasons.  It's true that their offense has put up a lot of yards but only a couple teams have played worse defense against IU than we have during those seasons; Illinois twice, Purdue twice and Rutgers once.  It's not good company.

2009 total yards:

Michigan (479), Ohio State (253), Illinois (490), Northwestern (313), Iowa (313), Wisconsin (393), Penn State (357), and Purdue (487).

2010 total yards:

Michigan (594), Ohio State (210), Illinois (293), Northwestern (373), Iowa (319), Wisconsin (315), Penn State (343), and Purdue (408)  --- IU had by far their best offensive output against us

2013 total yards:

Michigan (572), Penn State (486), Michigan State (351), Minnesota (496), Illinois (650), Wisconsin (224), Ohio State (442), and Purdue (692)

2015 total yards:

Michigan (527), Ohio State (402), Penn State (234), Rutgers (627), Michigan State (389), Iowa (407), Maryland (555), and Purdue (659)

Additional notes:

- Our game with them went to 2 overtimes last year, the number is a little higher.  But it's not like the first 4 quarters went great from a defensive perspective.

- Indiana put up 442 yards against OSU in 2013 but only put 14 points on the scoreboard.

- I believe Indiana was playing their backup QB against Penn State last year

- In 2012, Indiana played OSU's 12-0 team to a 52-49 loss.  They went 4-8 that year and they did not play Michigan.

Rather than trying to figure out what to blame for last year's Indiana game (scheme or injuries), let's keep in mind what kind of sport we are discussing.  This is freakin' COLLEGE football.  The athletes on the field have an average age of 21.  They are using strength and physical skills they may not have possessed even as recently as six months earlier (if the strength and conditioning coach is doing his job).

None of us are at our best every single time, even experienced veterans who've done this for years.  This includes defensive coordinators.  We might want to remember all of that, and acknowledge that we love college football BECAUSE it is less predictable than the NFL

Just sayin'....

If you can have a positive takeaway from this game at all (and that's pretty difficult), it is that this was another example in an early stage of Harbaugh's tenure here of how he has drilled into this team finding ways to win even if many aspects of the game play itself are, well, not looking so hot (put mildly, in the case of this game). Like Minnesota to a certain extent, they did not give up and could get it done when it mattered the most. That alone is a major improvement from 2014 and will continue to buy them the odd win in the future. That I will take. Still, this game would be a tough watch again.

But you guys know you can watch these games on Youtube, right? Start to finish.

It could be that movie on TV syndrome. You've seen it 100 times, it sucks more with the reduced foul language and commercials, but you'd rather watch it through on TV vs pop the Blu-ray in.

I have almost 1000 movies on my comuper that are 1 click away.

and yes, I'll sit through an edited/comercialized version of something on TV over just hitting "play" 9 times out of 10.

Why?

For me i think it's twofold:

1. I'm lazy, and it's easier to let the TV spirits just choose for me.

2.  There is a certain "live" element to watching something as it's being aired (ironically from a recording itself).  Like I'm sharing the experience with everyone else that's watching it at the same time.

Music has had this same paradox for ages. You own a song and thus can hear it anytime, yet you never play it because you're tired of it. But when you stumble across a radio station playing it, you listen.

It's all about the element of surprise. There's something about someone else choosing what to play.

Was pretty rough watching this game, but at the same time, you have to feel that this was a game we almost certainly would've lost (along with the Minny game) if we were still under the previous regime.

There were times last year where it didn't always look pretty, but you could tell the Harbaugh mentality was sinking in. This team did not give up when its back was against the wall or, literally, at the goal line.

They found ways to get it done, and ugly win or not, the win is all that matters.

I'm surprised that Indiana can't recruit better, at teast on offense.  It looks like a fun offense to play in.

The last I saw, they were at the very bottom of the Big Ten recruiting rankings so far, with no recruit ranked better than 700th.

Yikes.  I did not think that was even possible for a P5 program.

I'm afraid Indy will continue pounding the ball on the ground rather than throwing that stupid interception inside the 5 yard line. If they run we probably lose. I feel the same way about watching tape of the game at Minnesota. Terrible clock mamagement by them gave us that win. I prefer to just count those 2  games as wins and destroy all tapes.
