Michigan's final exhibition game of the season.

They face Wilfrid Laurier from Waterloo, Ontario.

Wilfrid Laurier is 2-1-0 this season against Canadian conference opponents but were horrific last season. Their only game against an NCAA school was against Bowling Green in a 7-1 loss.

The game be seen live on BTN Plus (subscription required) or you can listen to the live audio on MGoBlueTV.com for free.

Fun fact: the first-ever hockey game in Yost when it became Yost Ice Arena was on 11/2/1973. Michigan beat Wilfrid Laurier (then known as Waterloo Lutheran) 6-2.

Yost had a capacity of 8,100 back then. Today, its official capacity is 5,800.

Edit: cumong man. How did I screw up the spelling for this long?

The first game at Yost on November 2, 1973 was in fact against Wilfrid Laurier University.  Waterloo Lutheran ceased to exist on October 31, 1973, and Wilfrid Laurier University was created on November 1, 1973.

So do I get an "I corrected Wolverine Devotee" t-shirt?

I hate that the Yost environment has been changed so much in the last 5ish years. The renovations, though nice, changed the atmosphere a lot. I miss seeing a whole dump under the first few rows of the student section because trash would fall under the wood bleachers and slide allll the way down.

And I still hate that goal horn

It wasn't just trash that fell through though. Phones, wallets, keys.....

I LOVE the goal horn. It's not a real hockey arena without one. The arena is awesome but the atmosphere has sucked the last couple years.

All pro hockey environments are basically the same if you keep the number of people in there constant (at least amongst cities that care about hockey). Its apples to oranges, but I'd take 6000 in Yost over 17000 in the Joe any day

For instance, this doesn't need a goalhorn. This is awesome and it was one of the last years it seems Yost was really into it. (It seems to have been different ever since basketball re-emerged)

except the one at Chicago.

Yost has never needed one, just fans and The Victors. Watch that clip again and again.

Hey, maybe DB can get Beyoncé and Jay Z to voice a goal horn, letting us know that that is what the Michigan Experience™ is all about. That and noodle men dancing to Pitbull during timeouts / intermissions...

Christ hope DB does not lurk these forums.

I don't like that the stands in general are further away from the glass. That was one of the things I loved about Yost. I do not, however, miss the trash or the wooden stands with nails sticking out. As someone who worked at Yost for all four years of undergrad that was a pain to deal with.

This guy, recruited to Ottawa between 1896 and 1911. Five star Prime Minister.

Fun Fact about Wilfrid Laurier University.

It was originally private and called Waterloo Lutheran University. It went public and could no longer call itself Waterloo Lutheran. It became Wilfrid Laurier University in large part because it kept the initials of the university unchanged.

Rock Out With Your Hawk Out.

Yes, this was a slogan when I went to Laurier. Yes, I have a t-shirt in a closet somewhere with this written on it. No, I regret nothing.
