Michigan Hockey vs Miami Game Thread

Submitted by bacon1431 on

MIchigan takes on the next installment of the Redhawks dynasty tonight. Really wanna kick their asses in the last year of the CCHA. Puck drops around 7:30.

If you want another way to get your hockey fix, Grand Rapids Griffins game is on Fox Sports Detroit right now. Already up 2-0.

He clearly didn't have possession and control, but his stick was touching the puck and he was in Trouba's way. Better to keep control of the game, but not an especially strong call there, IMO.

So honestly?  I didn't think we played that great and we still beat a good team.  I'm optimistic.

Thought Racine looked good on pucks he was in the net for, if he can get the puck handling figured out, maybe he's the long term solution.

Trouba is the real deal.  A couple freshman mistakes, but that kid is super talented.

They blanked Army 5-0 tonight. Not that that is a measure of greatness, but I figured coming up from the ACHA they'd be absolute doormats. The fact that they appear to be the equivalent of a decent AHA team means they may be able to compete in the B1G way early than I thought

Yeah, by compete I didn't necessarily mean like...finish in the top half of the conference. I meant like actually winning conference games. I expected PSU to go like 0-20 in conference play their first few years but if they're approximately like a mid-level AHA team they might be able to sneak out 5 or so conference wins which is much better than I think most would expect

Great win over an overrated miami team. Hate those bastards, and it's fun to watch their whiny tool of a coach cry the entire time like he is so good at doing.

Can't listen to tomorrows game because of a certain football game on at the same time, but I'll be there in spirit. Apparently Rutledge is getting the start tomorrow per Red on the intermission interview.

Go Blue and Get the sweep!

arguably Michigan's best player is still in the press box with a fractured vertebrae.  This team has every chance to be scary good this season when Merrill comes back.  They still have a few things to work out, they need to not have the bad period they've had in every game I've seen so far this year and one/both of the goalies need to get comfortable.  But the PP seems to be getting fairly dangerous again, the PK looks like it's still going at a high level, the offense is far more potent that I expected and more, the offense is "clutch" and AJ might even be becoming the go-to scorer they haven't really had since at least Louie Caporusso his sophomore year.  They really need to cut down on the goals allowed, but I think they will and I'm reall excited to see how far this team can go.

it's a judgement call on the linesman's part. From the rulebook (Section 27 (g)):

Judgement of first player to touch puck. For the purpose of interpretation of this rule, icing is completed the instant the puck crosses the goal line, unless an attacking player, who is onside at the blue line and with no opponent between that player and the goal line and is clearly in position to be the first player to touch the puck. Icing shall not be called in this situation. This decision by the official shall be made no later than the first player reaching the end zone face-off dots. If the puck enters the goal in this situation icing shall not be called and a goal shall be awarded.
