that's unfortunate, but at least the interest is there on both sides
Michigan hires Southern Miss' Nolan Jones as director of football operations
Damn, I saw the posting a few days ago and wanted to get my application in. :(
I have a hard time reading the thread title without thinking that Michigan hired a pageant winner from down south.
Is that a bad thing?
Imma let you finish, but Mike Vollmar was one of the best associate athletic directors of all time.
But his dad was principal at my elementary school and his mom was my first grade teacher. They were both very nice and sincere people - great community members both of the university and downriver. Mr. Vollmar brought in a few football players to talk to the school about staying out of trouble or whatever. I have a Jamie Morris signature in my second grade yearbook somewhere...
Go Hunter Hornets!
I thought it was Miss Nolan Jones from Southern college.
Maybe he can help recruit Mississippi.
Maybe she can help recruit Mississippi.
only player from MIssissippi (Holly Springs) that I can recall. Sure there are more.
Welcome aboard Mr. Jones.
Maybe Dustin Almond has eligibility left
What, exactly, does a director of football operations do? Is he the middle man between the AD and the team? Does he handle the business side of the football team?
He's like an NFL team's general manager, minus the drafting/contract negotiations portion. He takes care of finances, logistics, etc. for the coaches and team. The AD obviously has lots of other sports to oversee, too, although they're less important because football rules.
Start? We started a few years ago under Rodriguez...
If you think that our program is squeaky clean then you probably are an idealist. Not saying that our program is an SEC level cheating machine, but I'm sure we have a skeleton in the closet just like every other major college football program out there.
I did not see Vollmar went to Tennessee. This is pretty distrurbing.. Why would someone leave Michigan for Tennessee? I live in Tennessee and I have been to Knoxville and a few UT games and the two do not compare. I will admit that UT fans get louder and more into the games. I had a jerk in Michigan Stadium bitching at me for standing up during the game?? We have the biggest stadium and I hate to say it but some of the most boring fans. Knoxville is also a ghetto.. It is nasty and just... not good. Why... Then we hire a guy that has been NOWHERE.. Great hire...
I presume it was for a combination of money and access. Tennessee is in a bad way right now but if a person is able to step in and help do a turn around then that will help leap frog into an AD position somewhere else and make even more.
I don't know how much the city itself plays into the decision since there is so much job hopping anyway.
