Michigan Haters

Submitted by Adrian on
Why do people hate on Michigan so much? So beginning of the season the whole talk was beat Western to earn back some of the respect. We did but that was still not good enough. Everyones said that the Notre Dame game will be our real test, if we win against ND we will be recognized as a solid team. We did but now the story is that ND was/is overrated. I know it doesnt matter as long as we go out there saturdays and win but it kinda bugs me how these people dont wanna recognize that MICHIGAN IS BACK. Great win on Saturday tho. GO BLUE

When ND kicks USC of the field, Jimmah makes Barkley look like a normal freshman qb, and Weis comes off the top rope to pin Carroll, we will know how good we are. They will cancel the TV coverage of the Mich-TUOOS game in Columbus at that point and replace it with a feel good movie like Stand by Me.

This surprises you? Put yourself in everyone else's shoes. If MSU was in our situation we'd be doing our best to tell State fans all the reasons they're not as good as their record says they are. This happens 100% of the time. Also, I have read in several articles the line "Michigan is back," so, whatever. The day I start worrying about what other people think about us being a good team is the day I should just stop following the team.

The playful "we're better than you and here's why" banter is a big part of what makes sports fun. I'll get worked up about it and argue, but us not getting the respect we deserve from opposing fans really doesn't bother me in the least. I don't give OSU, MSU, or ND the respect they deserve for being good football teams, and I wouldn't expect them to either.

I was going to make a comment on haters not being a word, but when I put forth the effort to look it up, it does show up as an alternate noun form in the dictionary. I'm both surprised and disappointed. I still don't think "hate on" is proper. It's like saying, "I despise on you," or, "I feel on you a great distaste." EDIT: And for all of you who may "hate on" me for this comment, I don't want you "feeling on me" a great distaste. I don't want you feeling on me anything.

Michigan cracked the AP Poll at 25 and is 26th in the Coaches Poll. Considering we started the season in the mid-40s to 50s, that strikes me as boatloads of love and respect based on two impressive wins. I don't see anyone saying Notre Dame is "overrated" and downgrading us for that. If anything, we may be getting too much respect for only two wins. Up to the fellas now to keep the momentum rolling and prove that we deserve to be ranked. Liked what Coach Rod said post game about being humble and staying focused.

I would say that all analysts and fans of college football are fans of a specific team. Given that, it isn't strange to think that if they aren't UM fans that they would keep questioning whether UM is back. Hell, I am even questioning it and I love UM more than anything else in life minus my family. I hope they are back and I think they are back, but just because I say it doesn't make it so. Just like our critic saying we aren't doesn't mean shit either. Bottom line about the ND game for me is our D scares the hell out of me. I don't know if the ND offense was just that good or if we were horrible but other than the third quarter we were just plain bad. I found a few bright spots in the game: Warren must have been blanketing his WR because he was only thrown at like three times and had excellent coverage. Stevie Brown looked very good once again in his new role (I am very pleasantly surprised with this development). Our safties seemed to play alright which was a big question mark coming in. BG didn't do much but it looked like he was doubled all day. I don't know but, but if Cissoko isn't in a burn unit at the local hospital I'd be shocked. He got torched all day long and I was really disappointed in that. I know that this was likely the best WR tandem we will play this year but he just looked lost out there all day. I'll have to wait to see the UFR's to see if I just thought he was bad, but wow, I didn't come away with a good feeling about him after that game. I was also wondering why Warren wasn't covering Floyd most of the game? It seemed they had him against Tate but I think Floyd is clearly the better of the two. Not that I know more about FB than our coaches, it just seemed strange to me.

I hope you made it to school on time this morning! If there's one thing Jr High should be teaching you right now, it's to get your priorities in order. Posting worthless threads on message boards when you should be out at the bus stop is a poor way to show that you are listening to the lessons.

When has ND not been overrated early in the year? We just happened to be the team to expose them this year. Everyone anticipated WMU as a test. ND was just our second test. I think Michigan's progress will be measured by the pundits weekly - as it should be - coming off of 3-9.

I'm going to go with the glass half full and think ND is a competent team this year and we beat them because we are a more competent team. I am going to go further and say that ND may well be better than USC. It is probably the non-Michigan game I am looking forward to the most at this point.
