Considering all visits right now are unofficial, meaning not paid for by the school, it actually means that if you're going to do a visit to toy with a school, you'd do so to a school close to home and not waste your parents' money.  If you're family is going to fly to Miami or Los Angeles on their own dime, might as well enjoy the trip instead of visit a school you don't care about.

Morris committed early hoping it would cause Kiel to go somewhere else. Other than that, I think we would have a great chance to land Kiel. As it stands now, it's a bit of a game of chicken. If Kiel goes Blue, what will Morris do? Will he follow Kiel to UM one class later or relent and go elsewhere? IMO, Morris made a very shrewd move.

Morris totally wants to be a Wolverine. And by committing this early he makes it less likely another elite QB chooses UM in the class immediately ahead of him.

I don't understand the logic that Morris would go elsewhere because of a Kiel commit.  Do people forget that all successful programs usually don't have their star QB's play until their redshirt Junior year.  The last 3 year has really watered down our theories on QB play.  We are Michigan we should get an elite QB every year. The influx of freshman an sophmore starters the last 3 years is not the blue print for a successful football program.  To be a successful program you want a starting line up filled with redshirt juniors and seniors, sprinkled in with the stud frosh or sophmore.  That is the formula for success.  So i hop we get Kiel and believe if we get him it will have no effect on Morris.

I think we've got a legit shot.  This is the guy that visited without fanfare with his mom, and didn't say anything afterword to speak of, if I'm right.  That we're in his final four displacing ND, seems to suggest that we've got a very good shot.  Borges and/or Hoke mentioned something a week or two ago about a possible Brady/Henson scenario and continuing to go after first rate qbs for this class -- may very well be referring to a Moris/Kiel or Mauk situation.

To be honest, after watching his tape I'm not completely sold on Kiel as a passer. He seems to have a strong arm, but Shane Morris as a HS sophmore was a lot more accurate and was asked to make tougher throws. I'm a bit surprised that he's rated so highly as a pro style QB.

I like Morris too but Kiel is pretty damn good. I never played QB so I am not the best person to evaluate him but from what I saw his foot work looks perfect, quick release, and accurate. Also shows some decent speed. What more do you want?

I guess it's just the fact that in a two minute highlight reel, he only has about three passes that were accurate and hit the receiver in stride. His superior arm strength is undeniable, but I wish there was a larger sample size of film for him.

Not that this assures success, but Rivals' top QB for the last several classes (that have completed their college playing days) have turned into 1st or 2nd round picks.  Matt Stafford, Mark Sanchez, Jimmy Clausen, and Blaine Gabbert all held that spot.  Matt Barkley hasn't been too shabby for USC, and we'll see about Jake Heaps (2010) and Jeff Driskel (2011).

If he remains atop the rankings, there's probably something there to like.

I've seen his tape, haven't seen him in person.  From what I've seen, and what everyone else is saying, together with his offer list, Kiel's gotta be the real deal.  If I recall correctly, he also has a history of qbs in his family (well, I guess Tate did, too, nevermind that one).  From what I did see, he looked to have good vision, touch, and a very strong arm.  Supposedly he's got decent speed, too.  Sounds like a Drew Henson type guy --  that's fine be me.

Edit:  Here's a couple more tape links than what I'd seen before:

Mizzou probably has the most favorable depth chart and also plays in a pass happy offense which Gunner can see by watching their film. We will eventually run a West Coast offense which will feature a passing game but he will have to take this concept on good faith at this point.

If he does visit again it would be pretty nice for him to bump into Tom Brady. Another visit would also go a long way in increasing my optimism.

Mizzou is a good option if he wants to play from the get go, and throw the ball a lot.  However, it's quite low-profile compared to anywhere else he's considering.  He'll play in a small stadium on a team not much of the country cares about, even when they're good.  He'll have a couple big games every year, but that's it, there's no longer a Big 12 champ game, and since he's in the same league as OU and UT he'll probably never make it to BCS bowl.

Lots of schools can send him to the NFL, and if he's really NFL material, he'll play a lot wherever he goes.  However, a handful of schools can offer a lot of things that Mizzuo simply cannot.

I don't think I ever said that going to a low-profile school would preclude him from being a high draft pick.  But where you're drafted isn't the only reason to pick a school, and there are a lot of schools who can put kids into the top 10 picks in the NFL draft.

Maybe he wants to be on TV?  Maybe he wants to play in a bunch of big games?  Maybe he wants to play in the Rose Bowl (or other BCS bowl)?  Maybe he wants to be interviewed after the primetime Saturday night game on national television?  Maybe he wants to play somewhere with a huge stadium that lives football?  Maybe he wants to wear a jersey that kids all over the US wear?  Maybe he wants to be playing alongside other future NFLers or see the current and past NFLers from his school?  Maybe none of these statements needed question marks?  I don't know what he wants, but kids pick colleges for a lot of reasons, only one of them being the NFL.
