the just released schedules were a flat-out statement that the B10 doesn't believe SOS will matter in playoff selection
but I thought that draft was supposed to be incredibly loaded?
Our good friend DGDestroys posted this on Twitter earlier:
his final visits since they said he visited MO again today, he is possibly visiting michigan this weekend. So should we expect a commit soon?
But sir, but sir, BUT NOTHING
I don't think he is making a decision until sometime in June.
"Tequila on the reg, chicks on the reg, fashions on the reg. Living the life most men can only dream of" - Kenny Powers
Do we actually have a legit shot with him? Or is this just the recruiting sites hyping him up for the sake of getting more hits?
he is visiting. if i were toying with schools, i would take my trips to USC or Miami to vaca and get out this BS weather.
Considering all visits right now are unofficial, meaning not paid for by the school, it actually means that if you're going to do a visit to toy with a school, you'd do so to a school close to home and not waste your parents' money. If you're family is going to fly to Miami or Los Angeles on their own dime, might as well enjoy the trip instead of visit a school you don't care about.
Seeing ND out of the running and with reports that OU has cooled on him a bit makes me think we do. I'm concerned with Missouri to be honest. They've put a couple QBs in the NFL recently and there's a shot at early PT with Tyler Gabbert transferring.
I had not heard that. I thought they were his leader.
"I didn't do it. Nobody saw me do it. You can't prove anything." B. Simpson
Just seen it circulating on a couple boards. An Oklahoma board was the source though so there may be something there. You're right though that they have been his leader and it's hard to tell if that's changed since he plays things close to the vest.
Morris committed early hoping it would cause Kiel to go somewhere else. Other than that, I think we would have a great chance to land Kiel. As it stands now, it's a bit of a game of chicken. If Kiel goes Blue, what will Morris do? Will he follow Kiel to UM one class later or relent and go elsewhere? IMO, Morris made a very shrewd move.
Yes, or he really wants to play for Michigan . . . that's at least as likely.
When did your mother let you out of the basement Mr. Rosenberg?
Morris totally wants to be a Wolverine. And by committing this early he makes it less likely another elite QB chooses UM in the class immediately ahead of him.
If Kiel goes Blue then Morris will go blue...
Think Denard followed by DG followed by a redshirted Gunner x 2 years followed by a redshirted Morris.
Back to the future.
If the haters don't hate you then you're doing something wrong. - David Cone
He does not think Morris will be affected by Kiel committing. B/c:
1. Kiel is1 yr older
2. most kids like Shane Morris, are very confident in their abilities, do not shy away from competition.
I don't understand the logic that Morris would go elsewhere because of a Kiel commit. Do people forget that all successful programs usually don't have their star QB's play until their redshirt Junior year. The last 3 year has really watered down our theories on QB play. We are Michigan we should get an elite QB every year. The influx of freshman an sophmore starters the last 3 years is not the blue print for a successful football program. To be a successful program you want a starting line up filled with redshirt juniors and seniors, sprinkled in with the stud frosh or sophmore. That is the formula for success. So i hop we get Kiel and believe if we get him it will have no effect on Morris.
Plus, star players just don't worry about these things very often. You don't get where they are without having a lot of self-confidence.
we had a starting QB who wasn't the starter as a freshman (Denard not withstanding) was Tom Brady. So that might explain why Michigan fans view QB starting the way we do.

a long long time ago
I think we've got a legit shot. This is the guy that visited without fanfare with his mom, and didn't say anything afterword to speak of, if I'm right. That we're in his final four displacing ND, seems to suggest that we've got a very good shot. Borges and/or Hoke mentioned something a week or two ago about a possible Brady/Henson scenario and continuing to go after first rate qbs for this class -- may very well be referring to a Moris/Kiel or Mauk situation.
I am surprised that ND didn't make his final four, considering that fact that they were thought to be the leader for his services at the beginning. I think they must have cooled on him and are going strong after Mauk. I think for Kiel it is going to be between Oklahoma and Michigan.
Hokemania...Gotta catch em all!
It's how it always goes for Notre Dame. They start out looking like they're going to win, and then they end up not succeeding. It's the way the world works, and I'm ok with that.
USING GRATUITOUS AMOUNTS OF CAPS LOCK SINCE APRIL 2011
Arguably the 3 most storied programs in all the NCAAs......and Mizzou
Dorial-green beckham and DGB wants to stay home
Whats up with Gunner to ND? How could they not crack the final 4?
didnt think they had a legit chance with him so they cooled and are focused on maty mauk
ND definitely had a legit shot with Kiel. I can't imagine he just gave up on them...the whole situation's weird

and Kiel wants 4 years of revenge. Go Blue Gunner!
Devin, Kiel, AND Morris in after two years. Would that cause problems? Good problem to have I guess
To be honest, after watching his tape I'm not completely sold on Kiel as a passer. He seems to have a strong arm, but Shane Morris as a HS sophmore was a lot more accurate and was asked to make tougher throws. I'm a bit surprised that he's rated so highly as a pro style QB.
I like Morris too but Kiel is pretty damn good. I never played QB so I am not the best person to evaluate him but from what I saw his foot work looks perfect, quick release, and accurate. Also shows some decent speed. What more do you want?
I guess it's just the fact that in a two minute highlight reel, he only has about three passes that were accurate and hit the receiver in stride. His superior arm strength is undeniable, but I wish there was a larger sample size of film for him.
I watched it after you said that and was surprised how often they show him running the ball. They were decent runs but I am not sure why they are on a 5 star pro style QB's highlight video.
Not that this assures success, but Rivals' top QB for the last several classes (that have completed their college playing days) have turned into 1st or 2nd round picks. Matt Stafford, Mark Sanchez, Jimmy Clausen, and Blaine Gabbert all held that spot. Matt Barkley hasn't been too shabby for USC, and we'll see about Jake Heaps (2010) and Jeff Driskel (2011).
If he remains atop the rankings, there's probably something there to like.
put out right after the 2011 draft, Matt Barkley was projected as the #3 overall pick, fwiw
I've seen his tape, haven't seen him in person. From what I've seen, and what everyone else is saying, together with his offer list, Kiel's gotta be the real deal. If I recall correctly, he also has a history of qbs in his family (well, I guess Tate did, too, nevermind that one). From what I did see, he looked to have good vision, touch, and a very strong arm. Supposedly he's got decent speed, too. Sounds like a Drew Henson type guy -- that's fine be me.
Edit: Here's a couple more tape links than what I'd seen before:
Not being a smart-ass but we've seen him take, what, 1 snap? Just seems like they're unknown quantities until they hit the field.
Man ball. Formerly, somebody else.
With Morris already in and if Kiel commits, can we start being hopeful for DGB?
ITS GREAT TO BE A MICHIGAN WOLVERINE
if gunner commits and dgb visits
But it moves it into the realm of possibilities. If Kiel commits early like everyone things he will, who knows what 6 months+ of being in DGB's ear will lead to.
I think DGB's closer to Pike than to Kiel...I haven't heard of any connection between the two. Havinga 5* QB commit to us certainly wouldn't hurt, either.
Good news. It's great just to even be in the top 4 with the nation's top QB. Thing is, our quarterbacks usually go on to date Brazilian supermodels...usually. Hopefully he realizes this.
I've decided to lay off the food for a while, and go on the booze.
Can't leave out making baby mama's from hollywood actresses like Bridget Moynahan.
"I was gone before that guy wrecked the place, but it still disappoints"
I think people here are underestimating Mizzou's chances. He was on campus there today, FWIW.
With an offer list like his, every school that cracks the final 4 should be taken very seriously.
Tyler Gabbert is transferring. The early playing time could play a huge role. Plus a top 10 NFL QB just came from there.
"Some people are like Slinkies, totally useless but great fun to watch when you push them down the stairs."
Mizzou probably has the most favorable depth chart and also plays in a pass happy offense which Gunner can see by watching their film. We will eventually run a West Coast offense which will feature a passing game but he will have to take this concept on good faith at this point.
If he does visit again it would be pretty nice for him to bump into Tom Brady. Another visit would also go a long way in increasing my optimism.
Edit: Meth is a little quicker to the punch. +1 normal moderate to you
Mizzou is a good option if he wants to play from the get go, and throw the ball a lot. However, it's quite low-profile compared to anywhere else he's considering. He'll play in a small stadium on a team not much of the country cares about, even when they're good. He'll have a couple big games every year, but that's it, there's no longer a Big 12 champ game, and since he's in the same league as OU and UT he'll probably never make it to BCS bowl.
Lots of schools can send him to the NFL, and if he's really NFL material, he'll play a lot wherever he goes. However, a handful of schools can offer a lot of things that Mizzuo simply cannot.
low profile schools can still churn out top 10 draft picks.
Mizzou just did.
I don't think I ever said that going to a low-profile school would preclude him from being a high draft pick. But where you're drafted isn't the only reason to pick a school, and there are a lot of schools who can put kids into the top 10 picks in the NFL draft.
Maybe he wants to be on TV? Maybe he wants to play in a bunch of big games? Maybe he wants to play in the Rose Bowl (or other BCS bowl)? Maybe he wants to be interviewed after the primetime Saturday night game on national television? Maybe he wants to play somewhere with a huge stadium that lives football? Maybe he wants to wear a jersey that kids all over the US wear? Maybe he wants to be playing alongside other future NFLers or see the current and past NFLers from his school? Maybe none of these statements needed question marks? I don't know what he wants, but kids pick colleges for a lot of reasons, only one of them being the NFL.
