Michigan Football Takeover for Mott

Submitted by M-Wolverine on

Thought for sure there'd be something on this up already, but there's the Michigan takeover of WTKA on the radio today, featuring the players and coaches past and present on the radio, for donations.  Lloyd Carr and Charles Woodson just finished their segment.  Hanlon is on now.

I had the privelege of sitting next to Jason Avant on a flight from from Chicago to Philly in Feb. of 2007.  He is a very humble and down to earth individual, and stated how truly blessed he feels to be in the NFL.  During the +/- two hour flight, football consumed about 15 minutes of our conversation.  I still find that to be remarkable.  Jason inquired about details of my life (job, family, etc.) and he was genuinely interested in learning about me as a person, and not about discussing his achievements and accolades.

Now, I am not going to go all Thom Brennaman and state that my life is better because of the 120 minutes I spent around Jason Avant.  What I will say that is it was uplifting to meet a player who had a very good career at Michigan, was drafted and has had success in the NFL, and learn that he is, more importantly, a great person.  Needless to say, I was very impressed by Jason and wish him all the best.

My daughter had surgery at Mott Children's and I am very proud of our athletic department for the work they do to support it.  I have told more people about the money raised for Mott at the spring game than the football I saw there.  The entire athletic department works hard to raise money for Mott as well as doing visits and programs for the kids.  I am sure that being a part of something so important makes as much of a difference in the lives of the athletes as it does for the kids.  That hospital is the best place in the world as far as I am concerned and we should be proud of the support our athletic department (and Lloyd Carr and his wife in particular) consistantly provide to it.  Leaders and Best without a doubt.

Agree - from all accounts, I have heard that this really is a top-flight facility.  One of my greatest sources of pride in our Football program (not just in recent years in which we are not so good at the football thing) is the level of support that it has shown to Motts.

Also, whether you love or hate Lloyd, it is pretty hard not to be overwhelmingly impressed with his dedication to this, and other, charitable and community causes.  Happy to see that his involvement has not declined since he entered retirement.  He is a really great guy.

Also, also, it is nice to see that our team's support of Motts has been continued in full force by RR.  Love whether or not you support him as a coach, he has continued one of the best traditions of our program in his strong support of Motts.

my 8 year old son was just as excited about donating money at the spring game as he was about the football.  He wears his All in For Mott's T-shirt very proudly and talks about him showing it to people at his school when he comes home.  This is definitely another aspect of UofM that makes the place so special, and makes being part of that football team very special. but the whole of UofM hospital is awesome. I've had quite a few surgeries and procedures in the rest of the hospital, as well as a couple of other hospitals, and it is definitely the best, by far.

Shout out to Dr.'s Junck and LaMarca!

If they want to make a lot of money for Mott, they should put together a blooper video of linemen and LB's trying to hit golf balls at the "tournament."   At $30-50 a pop, they could probably do quite well.  And it would be for a great cause, so I'm pretty sure the football players would be OK with it.
