thanks for the insight. Just sharing some info as I thought it was interesting. Clearly states in the title what I was referring to. If you already knew that, stay out of this thread!
When did everybody get so "debbie downer"???
Have a great day!
Edit: Quote fail
Probably second team behind Pryor based on general reputation.
With Luck, Mallet, Newton going to NFL -- who are the other top CFB QBs?
i believe he will be a true junior. prbly will be on 1st or 2nd team with pryor
'could've' or 'could have' 'could of' doesn't make a damn bit of sense. I don't understand why this is all over the internetz.
Yes - 8 home games and a really easy schedule should help us out. The only games that scare me other than the final two (Nebraska, OSU) are ND and MSU. ND looked better in the scond half of the season, and will be returning a ton of talent and more comfortable under Kelly. As for MSU, they have had our number for 3 straight years - their game plan has been perfect to stop us, having exploited every weakness and stopping our offense.
That said, assuming that RR is back, I see our offense becoming more consistent and our defense becoming something better than the worst defense in B10 history.
While I agree MSU had our number that last two years, unless MSU's game plan was to have Denard begin to regress in his passing game and throw three interceptions, I don't think MSU's game plan was what was holding us back.
Dear lord: MSU scares us.
That isn't a great commentary on this program. Pathetic is a word that springs to mind. Not only do they have a great game plan, but they had the bigger better players. Especially on defense.
but they had the bigger better players. Especially on defense.
Maybe that's because our players are, seemingly, all 18-19 while theirs are all 22-23.
Not to mention their literal prison abs to our figurative.
And while I've supported RR and think he is a great coach, I think this is an obvious sign of the program heading in the wrong direction...
Huh? That's a bit contradicting, IMO.
Even if RR is a great coach, IMO I think this is yet another telling sign that he is not the right fit for Michigan.
That pretty much every starter that he recruited (which is most of them right now) are mostly freshman and sophomores (with some juniors)?
Can we squeeze in an "unacceptable" for the hat-trick?
Ultimate sentence for RR detractors;
While I have always supported RR as a great coach, his misunderstanding of the rivalry with MSU and OSU, proven by his unwillingness to win these games, is "very telling" that he is just not the "right fit" for the program, which is "unacceptable."
commence slow clap
I thought it read, " Commence slow crap "
This would be more appropriate at the horseshoe than MGoBlog
lolz and I'm picturing the gif now, but just don't have the talent to create.
But I did look up GIF once and found out that it's supposed to be pronounced JIF.
Sorry, didn't realize I should blindly follow the majority of board users' sentiment and that to suggest RR has done anything less than "the best job possible" is blasphemy. I apologize, that was unacceptable of me.
Can we get UNACCEPTABLE in caps?
vnperk, I would like to help. The issue that other posters had your statement wasn't regarding the sentiment of what you were saying but the fact that you completely contradict yourself (meaning you state one idea then have another that pretty much means the opposite:
No, no I like you, the problem is that you are the kind of fish that causes delays, a "delay fish" and I need to find my son, so I should probably do that on my own.
If RR isnt the right fit, who is? RR coaching style is different from anything M has ever seen. It takes time to totally inject his style...players, schemes, coaches, etc..RR is a great coach in CFB and a great mind....If he gets just a decent Defense, ppl will be cheering RR is God! I believe in RR and DB should also....in the long run, RR is the man to revamp Michigan football.
unless it isn't anymore. But, then you have to check and see what it used to be in order to understand that what it is now is merely a transformed version of what it once was and isn't quite yet what it is going to be then. The real question is: when will then be now? Soon.
didn't realize our freshman recruits playing in the secondary are supposed to come out of HS being the same size as MSU's Senior and Junior corners..
It was only a year ago and their PATHETIC secondary was getting shredded on a wk to wk basis..
If you think our secondary was suppose to be better than theirs or anyone else's last year your head is in the clouds
"... they had the bigger better players ..."
Ah, the near-myth that never dies. Yeah, that Taylor Lewan is a sickly little so-and-so, isn't he? Mike Martin, too. RVB. The whole O-line! Stonum! Koger! Cam Gordon!
Seriously, can you give us some examples that don't involve 1st- and 2-year players?
Do you really think RichRod and his staff have purposely recruited small players? Really?
on multiple occasions. For some reason, people believe that RR only likes small players. I have asked people why they think this, and then pointed out players at almost every position that can hardly be considered small. i.e. Gardner at QB, Hopkins RB, Ricardo Miller WR, our entire O-line (average around 300), our D-line. Besides the fact that he has recruited a couple small slot ninjas, billy-goats, and pure Dilithium, which all seem to be working out well, I think its a myth that keeps getting exposure. Probably similar to Belien only running a 1-3-1 defense.
Please! Given the Yost quote you must be a street urchin.
but complaints. Worse, they are pseudo-"thought out and rational" complaints that really amount to nothing more than UNACCEPTABLE bitching and trotting out tired old memes about player size, spread is dead, SMASHMOUTH and other idiotic empty concepts.
TL;DR version: I pretty much hit the down arrow on every single one of your posts.
I agree with you on ND, I think MSU loses a lot to graduation and jail, I think they will be kinda raw.
Let's be realistic here, unless the player is actually incarcerated during the game, MSU doesn't lose anybody to jail.
MSU is going to get crushed next year.
... NW is going to be much tougher IMO.
Not even at S, that is weird
1st thing I noticed too. Preview lost credibility after I saw that.
Everybody wants to talk like they've got something to say, but nothing comes out when they move their lips, it's just a bunch of gibberish.
Motherf*ckers act like they forgot about Troy.
it does say just above the depth chart that they do not take into consideration injured players, red shirted players, incoming freshmen, or transfers. That would be why woolfolk is not on there. It says they will add these players in their spring issue of the same thing.
FIRE THE COACH!!!!1!!
Let's finish this season first.
As regards 2011, I hope the negative Nancy's don't crab and stir the pot if Michigan does anything less than win the MNC. For crying out loud, some people are never satisfied. If we won the MNC, they'd crab that we should do that EVERY year. There's a derogatory term used of certain sorority girls in my day that could apply here.
Dissatisfaction this year is mostly for failing to meet a way lower standard than a National Title: try improvement against league programs that we will have to beat to amount to anything. We showed none. Don't kid yourself. That is the source of people being satisfied.
Couple that with a general fear of where this all leads when the reasonable excuses have been used up, and you have a divided and skeptical fan base.
One more point: There are very very few regular board comments that are an insult to the intelligence of the people on here. This thing is loaded with great smart fans. But the association in any way between what Rich is doing and the inevitability of eventual National Titles makes us all look dumb. I see it again and again, and it is silly.
Just as silly as the idea that we could never win big switching back to a more basic pro style offense. Neither proposition is grounded in any sort of reality.
You're on fire today! After weeks of hashing you still have passion. I'm not even angry. I'm impressed!
And you ate the entire wheel of cheese?
Of course, I'm not anyone here – but I felt compelled to say it.
Don't be one.
"Any street urchin can shout applause in victory, but it takes character to stand fast in defeat. One is noise --- the other, loyalty." Fielding Yost
I don't care what your opinion on Rich Rod is, you're entitled to that. However, the fact that you still haven't changed your signature since you decided to turn into tl;dr, FIRE RICH ROD, UNACCEPTABLE!!!!!1!!1!one!!! makes you look foolish. Must be your MSU grad side showing.
But I want to add one more point – I believe it's how we lost that's adding to the undercurrent of frustration.
Like many out there, I was pro RR up until the Penn State game. That game broke me. Not only did we lose to a team we should have beat, but we did it in a way that doesn't jive with the attitude of success. We – as in our coach, team, and University – made excuses for why we lost, rather than taking responsibility and saying we failed. That's not being a leader and that's not being Michigan.
As an institution, we get a lot of crap for arrogance. Any you know what, we deserve it. We are arrogant, we believe everyone and everything associated with University must strive for excellence, to lead by example. But to be that, to be us, you have to back it up. You have to win – and just as importantly, you have to admit it when you don't. As a leader, you have to jump on that granade and take full responsibility and say you failed. Don't argue, just admit – completely.
And say you will never let it happen again.
As we all know, RR doesn't do this. It's always "yeah but.." or "it happened because..." or "next year." Though his points are true and make sense, by simply stating the reasons, rather than owning failure, he's making excuses – and Michigan doesn't do that. If RR owned the teams failure and vowed to fix it, I believe more fans would still be onboard, wistfully dreaming of next year. But that hasn't happened.
This is why I think people like Harbaugh – not just because he went to Michigan but more importantly, he takes accountability.
Winning championships is just as important to Michigan as how we do it. As the old saying goes, sports are a metaphor for how we view ourselves. We all want to be winners, but Michigan needs to do it with character.
Please go and root for another team. I hate "your type" of fan.
Also, RichRod takes plenty of blame, along with blaming the coaches, in every press conference, all the time. The only problem is none of that goes well with the "RichRod blames everyone but himself" meme, so none of those quotes ever make it to the newspapers. As I said, please go root for someone else.
I was just giving you my opinion. I'm sorry you found it so offensive – but I guess 'your type' can only stand viewpoints similar to your own.
Tell me something, what are message boards for? Why are you hear? Why do you read them? I find it a bit ironic that on a medium for sharing ideas, you can't stand reading them.
Also, memes, they exist for a reason. Like Acoms Razor.
Glad you're a Michigan fan though. Keep the passion but maybe, don't speak in such generalities. If you reread what I wrote, I think you'll see that your argument doesn't make sense.
I was just giving you my opinion.
I truly hate his defense for ridiculous statements. Someone will make a comment that is completely wrong. Then when called out on it they claim it's simply "their opinion." Yeah? Well, it's my opinion that the sun will rise in the west tomorrow, and that elephants are actually no more than 3 feet tall. But don't try to prove me wrong. Because it's simply my opinion, and those can never be wrong.
Dont worry about it.
If we happen to win the MNC next year it will only because Denard had exceptionally good performances against OSU and Nebraska, therefore winning those games is discounted. Because without Denard we would easily lose those games and therefore RR is just as close to being 7-5 as to be a MNC contender. A MNC wouldn't prove anything about RR.
So, we discount anything a coach does because it depends on a player he recruited? What in the world are you trying to logically argue or discuss here? Inquiring minds want to know!
Ah, so you got the memo that RR can only win because of one player.
I wonder if Gene Chizik is getting the same crap at Auburn.
Phew! Glad I just barely caught the "/s" because I was about to launch into a rant about how everyone said the same thing about RR when he had Pat White. Saved me some embarrassment. Good post +1.
I'm projecting them at #1 in my heart in 2011. Again.
No problems, great post, great Mgoblogger, would do business again, A++++++++
Was this prediction made before or after the damning news about "Michigan Robot?"
They only leave the state 3 times (Iowa, Illinois and NU) and the trip to NU isn't very far.
That you'll be able to easily drive to all the games home and away next season?
is dangerous every year.
One could easily trip and fall over all those empty stadium seats and seriously hurt him/herself. The tragic thing is, nobody would be there to help. Dangerous indeed!
I'm guessing that Spartycat was talking about Nebraska and you're talking about Northwestern.
It looks like we now need an in-conference clarification for NU (NTNU or YTNU).
Yes please! I love speaking in mgoblog code around my girlfriend, and her having no idea what "YTM", "NTTAWWT", or "NTMSU" mean.
[After some research, Nebraska is actually the University of Nebraska, so they'd be UN, thus there is still only one NU, being Northwestern University. No new acronyms = Sad Panda.]
I hate how all those schools do that. It seems like everyone in the Big 12 (including Nebraska right now) seems to think they root for "Oklahoma University" and "Kansas University" and the like.
What the hell is wrong with just saying the name of the school or the actual acronym, kind of like how we say, "U of M" or "Michigan"?
I was talking about Northwestern. They seem to fly under the radar and pick up 8 wins for the past few years. They always get the best of Iowa and their system can give any defense fits. Dan Persa is a good QB. Before him, CJ Bacher was a good QB. Before him Brett Basanez was a good QB. They seem to churn out quality players every year.
"ealry" bird previews
If you agree that Michigan should beat Notre Dame at home in the first night game at the Big House, then this team should be 6-0 when it heads to East Lansing. The rest of the schedule should net at least two wins so anything worse than 8-4 would be a disappointment.
Now tell me, Harbaugh lovers, what evidence is there to suggest Harbaugh is a better coach? As a good friend of mine likes to say, "The proof is in the pudding."
think that's low,inside the top 20.
Anyone else find it funny that they list Obi Ezeh as a key loss?
I mean sure he's a linebacker but you can grab any student to just take up space and a blocker.
A little harsh, bro.
looks a bit better without a D2 "cupcake" team. SDSU is a very smart out of conference opponent to check how good we perform outside the MAC and B10 opponents, plus ND. I'd like an 8-5 season is the minimum, if we stay the course. But it looks like a very good season to get 9 or 10 wins with the toss-ups being MSU, Iowa, and the Fighting Zook's. I'm thinking if the defense is even slightly improved from the despicable paper-thin shade of what it used to be, it's looking like at least a late December bowl. If the defense shows vast improvement, i.e. MM stays healthy, Death Row is a great compliment to MM, the secondary can defend a paper bag, and Demens turns into the next Lamar Woodley, we're looking at a January bowl for sure.
The biggest thing to pay attention to in my opinion is the defensive coordinator business. If the ol' HC goes out and gets an established DC, then we're in luck, but if we take a risk, I'll start to hang my head in shame, figuratively.
This is just a couple of running hypotheticals that've been running through head.
I'm about the biggest RR supporter you'll find. But 8-5 next season would be cause for UNACCEPTABLE MICHIGAN RABBLE RABBLE. We deserve better than that and he needs to perform above that level next year. That said, I completely think he does.
...unless we go undefeated and win a MNC, there will highly likely be a very vocal section of the fanbase claiming "rabblerabbleUNACCEPTABLE!rabblerabble." That section of fans will probably shrink with each win beyond, say, 8 (pre-bowl game). But they'll still be there.
Hell, there will probably still be some out there claiming it. If only because he didn't achieve it sooner. Or they simply state that they're glad he (RichRod) won, but they still feel he should've been fired after 08.
