Submitted by Indonacious on

Michigan will finish at #5 in the 2017 247 Sports Composite rankings, behind #1 Alabama, #2 OSU, #3 Georgia, and #4 USC.

Lost to Pitt, fluke win against osu and losing to any team by 39 points. Luck win against lowly minnesota at home and barely got by wisconsin. This is not the team to beat going forward. That is why I like the way it used to be were everyone had to play each other. Michigan and Ohio state are the class of the Big Ten and I feel the margin will only grow.

Won the B1G, played a great Rose Bowl, significantly improved as the year went on, brings a ton of talent back... PSU will be favored against us next season.

Honestly, everything you described about their season sounds like Michigan's season from the year before, except I can't remember what our losing margin was to OSU and that was at home.

By stats an even better class than last year. Just checked, our average would have put us 3rd in 247 last year. This year is extremely top-heavy, and we're one of the ones at the top. That's two straight years of great recruiting, excellent sign for things to come.

OSU's class is sick, and keeping up with them is going to be tough, but with classes like this we're staying in the same neighborhood, unlike before. And I'm confident that our coaches will be able to realize the potential of the players coming in.

2018 will be great, but we run the schedule in 2019. I believe we will take the #1 recruiting crown next year by quality much like osu this year. Feeling good about future obviously, but that is how I see things trending. Watch our o-line haul the next two years. Top in state talent will catapult our o-line recruiting.

... that OSU clearly outplayed PSU on the road but was foiled by a couple of special teams plays.  Playing at home, OSU did not look like a better team than UM--maybe equal, but not better--and I have multiple friends who are OSU fans who would say the same thing.

(And, no, wins are not just a statistic.)

The #1 recruit in OSU's class this year is Kevin Wilson.  If you offered me a choice of losing all 5 5* recruits or losing Wilson, I'd choose to keep the new OC.

OSU should be significantly improved next year.  I would not be at all surprised if they raised their scoring average by a touchdown per game.

I don't expect the glut at the top to last tho. The top 5 classes benefited big time from ND, Texas and Ole Miss (lol) being out of contention.

Next year will be more competitive imo when ND and Texas get back into the mix.

On top of that you had Baylor in freefall this year too and they always steal a bunch of quick athletes from the big boys year in and out.

Late charge by SC...

This means nothing, but if you take Wilson off of Georgia and put him on Michigan, they flip spots.

The class rankings are identical, except they got Wilson.

Oh well, whatever, let's play football! It's all about stacking top 5 classes. I saw something today that when you're class average over a 4 year period is in the top 5 you're a championship level team going to the playoff.

This is exactly right. I think 2017 is the final transition pains year. Beginning in '18, Harbaugh will have upperclassmen he recruited and his players throughout the depth chart. We won't care as much about losing out on a single recruit* going forward because the strength will be throughout the roster.

*Does not include not every year type talents (See: Gary, Rashan).

Are you sure you are a Michigan fan?

After seeing our class topped off with 5* Solomon, 4* Nico, and the best punter in the nation to go along with our already stud filled class Im not sure how any Michigan fan could not be excited. We got Filiaga and Ruiz who are two olineman who can contribute immeditely.

I just cant wrap my mind around a Michigan fan not being excited about this class
