Michigan in the Final Group for TX DB LaDarrell McNeil

Submitted by DGDestroys on

Without a visit, it seems unlikely he'll commit to Michigan, but looks like the staff made another great, late push for him. As @Wlubd pointed out on twitter, his coach is Chris Barnett's dad.

Announcing between TCU, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, and Michigan tonight at 7.

Article from the Dallas Morning News...

Wilmer-Hutchins football coach Elzie Barnett said star senior safety LaDarrell McNeil will announce which college he is committing to at 6:45 p.m. Monday at Wilmer-Hutchins. Barnett said McNeil has narrowed his choices to Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, TCU and Michigan.

Rivals.com ranks McNeil (6-1, 190) as the nation's fifth-best safety in the Class of 2012 and as the 107th-best senior recruit in the country. McNeil, who had 132 tackles and three interceptions for A. Maceo Smith last season, is No. 3 in SportsDay's area recruiting rankings.

Would be a great get but considering the lack of buzz about him on most UM boards around the internet I'm guessing we're not getting him.

Seems unlikely he would pick us(unless you are posting this because you know something...) but would he play safety for us?  Thought the coaches were looking for another elite cornerback.

he has offers from everyone, but we were just thrown in there to get another hat on the table?  i didn't even know he was considering us, and i don't recall a visit.

#3, #5, #7 and #11 safety per the 4 major recruiting sites. IIRC he's always listed Michigan amongst his leaders. That said, he hasn't visited and he's definitely a safety of which we probably don't have room for so it is a little strange seeing us mentioned. Never hurts having a high-rated kid from out of region mentioning you as a finalist though.

Hmmm...I remember seeing an interview from a camp where he said he was really high on Michigan but going back through some articles around him there isn't a lot about Michigan. Odd that Tennessee isn't even a finalist though. He called them a favourite not even a month ago.

LOL. I think I'd be more interested in what Tom did. But I'm assuming in order to do that I'd have to rename myself wlubdVH and my screen name's confusing enough to say as is. I just find it interesting that we're a finalist. My gut feeling is simply that his HC has a son at Michigan so he's including us for appearances but I'm intrigued by what the actual reasoning is.

That doesn't make any sense since Chris Barnett's dad was against him coming to Michigan.

Elzie Barnett said he believes that his son should have signed with Arkansas instead of Michigan so he could play in the Southeastern Conference and the Razorbacks’ pro-style offense.

But really. There are a lot of parts of both Tim and Tom's jobs that certain things, be it my kids, geographical location, or experience prevent me from being able to do. I know Brian will find a quality candidate to replace them.

to Texas to play in the Big East, or going to Texas to play in the SEC, or going to Oklahoma to play in the Newer, Bigger, Big 8, or playing for Michigan in the best 12 team conference in the land.  The more things change the more they get really weird.

Would Michigan take his commitment at this point?  Always a bad idea to turn down an elite talent, but we have ned other than safety in this class.  Even though I don't feel like CB is one of them either.

He's probably TCU/Ok-State bound. The best safety in Texas and a real quality player too.

Edit: Sounds more and more like Oklahoma State.

I stopped watching at the 2:42 mark of DG's video.  I had seen enough.

Dear Mr LaDarrell McNeil,

You play football like a possessed, savage beast.   And, it turns out, you would look tremendous in a winged helmet.  Please come play football and attend college at the University of Michigan.

Many Regards,

The Flying Dutchman

Wow.  That's the best hitting safety I've seen in a long time.  If I was coaching against him, I'd elimate any passes over the middle and instruct everyone to buckle their chin-straps tighter.
