Now if they use the same color ball that might be interesting.

Maize field that you can see from the Moon.

I'd be happy if they went back to grass. It sure looked good for the Real Madrid/Manchester United game.

Then if we wanted it to be maize, we could just let the grass die.
August 25th, 2014 at 12:48 PM ^
Then we could wear all maize uniforms, helmets, and shoes. It would be like an invisibilty cloak.

This messageboard would crumble in on itself. Brian would literally become a black hole and all matter would be sucked inside him.

You joke. But if you don't think this is a bellwether in some way, you are wrong. We mustn't abandon post.

I think they should have the end zones blue. I love how the end zones look in bowl games.

Try it out during the Spring Game so people don't flip out too much.

With maize lines?
August 25th, 2014 at 11:44 AM ^
Love it, but won't the players be distracted by all the birds plunging to their deaths thinking this is water . . . or is that just a myth?
August 25th, 2014 at 11:53 AM ^
just awful
August 25th, 2014 at 11:55 AM ^
Not a fan of any color turf. It's just too fake and distracting. Perhaps I'm in the minority, but I'd much prefer having a real grass field. And if for reasons that can't be (poor drainage, muddy, etc.), then I'll accept turf but keep it green.
Now kids, get off my *real grass* lawn! /steps off porch.
August 25th, 2014 at 11:58 AM ^
I watched a little of the SH-Directional Washington game and had to change the channel because that red turf hurt my eyes. I'm with you on having real grass. I just don't want it to be 4 inches high like ND did to try to slow down Denard.
August 25th, 2014 at 4:00 PM ^
Prefer grass, for sure, but I have to say that from a maintenance perspective, this new generation of artificial turf is really impressive. Other than the annoying rubber pellets, it drains so well and can be made so it's not hard like the old astroturf (basically a carpet on top of cement) - a bit more "rebound" like a rubber track, although it's still not pleasant to crash on.
I'm interested in the grass-turf hybrid in use at Mile High and Lambeau. Looks very interesting.

Are a pain, and that stuff is ridiculously hot (at least in warm weather areas). My kids play on some gorgeous fields, but it is so damn hot.

a field.
Oh wait, a woman's sport is trying to generate some interest and do something cool, why the hell not? If the team likes it and helps them recruit, more power to them.
August 25th, 2014 at 12:20 PM ^
Actually think it looks pretty cool, but I would imagine that it would be extremely hot on the playing surface?
August 25th, 2014 at 3:19 PM ^
I like it too. Those turf surfaces are already pretty hot in my experience, though. Not sure the blue color will change it that much.
August 25th, 2014 at 3:53 PM ^
It shouldn't be too hot, NCAA requires them to soak the field before games. I found this out when I asked an Ath dept. equipment guy why I always saw them watering the old fake turf field, as it seemed funny why there were always sprinklers on a fake turf field.

The field hockey field can be blue, green or pink.

Doesn't seem intact with Michigan tradition but sometimes new is good and this is one of those times.
August 26th, 2014 at 12:57 AM ^
makes it almost look like this is a blue cloth pulled over a grey pad - doesn't seem like it is field turf. Checking mgoblue.com:
Ocker Field also received a new playing surface in 2014 with the installation of a blue AstroTurf 12 synthetic turf system. Called a "Global" system, AstroTurf 12 is a knitted nylon system designed to provide uniform traction and consistent footing. It improves playability when it is wet and absorbs water to maintain wet conditions longer. It is the most widely accepted and desired surface for field hockey in the world.
