Michigan Fans - Enjoy Denard

Submitted by rbgoblue on

Fellow Michigan Fans,

I know that its easy to get caught up in the season with the ever changing win predictions and gripes about play calls and poor defensive play.  But I just want to remind everyone to take a second to step back, just for a second, to enjoy what we have in Denard Robinson.  Be it his uncanny ability to slip between defender's tackling attempts, his pin point accuracy downfield as he throws darts on the run, or the sheer beauty of his speed as he gallops like a thoroughbred, untouched into the end zone.  We are fortunate to have the most exciting player in college football today.  And at this pace, quite possibly one of the most exciting ever to play.  So take just a second each game this season and over the next three years to step back and enjoy having Denard Robinson.  We will probably not see another football player of his kind here in our lifetime.

I enjoy Denard while I enjoy a drink, then I enjoy my lady friend, then I somewhat enjoy NFL football, then I don't enjoy the workweek, then I enjoy Denard again while I enjoy a drink.  In all seriousness, we are a very fortunate fanbase, that is why is it so very unfortunate that most people seem to focus on the defense when we do have a bonafide once in a lifetime player on the grass of Michigan Stadium.

I wouldn't necessarily say most people focus on the defensive problems. I think most Michigan fans really appreciate what we have now, warts and all, given what we've been through in the last two years. It's just that shallow brooks tend to make the most noise.

This is not the best Michigan team I've seen play. It's not the most likely to win a conference championship. We may not have the most talented defense.

It has, however, quickly become my favorite team we've put together to date. We have a group of characters who love to play the game, and it shows. We have one of the most exciting offenses I have ever seen. We have Denard.

I cannot say enough about the guy. I truly get the feeling that he is the glue that holds this team together, and even outside of his on the field heroics I feel as though he is doing something extremely special for the program I love so much. I am very, very thankful to have him, and all of these players around, and I look forward to watching them this year and in coming years.

Will we ever see better? 494 yards and 5 tds? My God this is incredible. At this point, we just have to sit back and watch. He's on another level.  Yeah, I want to our team to make a new year's day bowl.  But for now, let's just watch Denard and be happy.

Cool. Recruited by Rich Rodriguez to play QB when everyone else had him as an "athlete"; only 3 stars, apparently.

Maybe this Rodriguez guy really can recruit and coach?

I believe Denard was a medium-high 4 star recruit, and he had offers from Florida and a handful of the other SEC schools.  All I'm saying is that Denard's ability to pass and run and seemingly make the right decision every single time, especially at such a young age, has yet to be seen elsewhere.  Not Pat White, not Terelle Pryor, etc.  Will we have other great QBs moving forward?  Absolutely.  But will we have another Denard Robinson?  I hope so, but I'm definitely not counting on it.

however, he was the #14 athlete nationally to Rivals and the #16 corner to Scout.

Interesting quote, however from the Scout review:

Many project him to be a receiver or cornerback in college because of his size (6-0/190) and speed (10.7 100m kid at the state meet). When the game's on the line, you want him with the ball in his hands, though.

We may not be the best overall team but we absolutely have the best player right now. As much better as we all want the team to be, we should enjoy what we have while it lasts.

He is fabulous must see viewing.  I just wouldn't jump the gun that he'll be the last.  As this offense gets more deeply entrenched in future years at Michigan, look for new studs to emerge.   The even better  line play and depth in future years will make this program a star vehicle.

Watch Oregon under Kelly. They make a once in a lifetime talent of a new very talented guy pretty much every year in this offense. Sometimes quarterback, sometimes tailback.

It was going to fall apart after Dixon, then Masoli got booted and doom was predicted. Now it's this tailback running all over the place for them.

...in that he touches the ball - EVERY SINGLE PLAY - with the God given ability to run like the proverbial wind for 40, 50 , 60, 70+ yards to the endzone, untouched.

We've had incredible players for 132 years, but this one may be the most special.

I think the awesomeness of his ability, combined with his genuine humbleness as a person is unlike anything we've ever seen - here at Michigan, or anywhere else for that matter.

I just hope we get two more years after this one to watch him do his thing.

I was going to write the same thing myself.

In the past, my motivation for watching M against cupcakes was low (though I still would most of the time).  Now, I feel like I MUST watch every M game -- just to see what incredible feats Denard achieves next.  Mad props to RR for making this happen.

Denard also is one of the most likeable players in college football (or sports in general for that matter). He is always smiling, also respectful, very nice guy. It's tough to root against a guy like that and very easy to root for him, even if you aren't a Michigan fan.

It's amazing how before the season, all my buddies and people I talked to would ask how many games before Rich Rod gets fired? And they would make their smart comments about the team. Now everytime I see those same guys, all they say is "Denard is amazing." He has changed the view on Michigan football across the country. Coming into the season it was the 3 quarterback battle with people favoring Tate with his inconsistency and his poor play down the stretch last season. Now, experts will pick on our defense and other areas but they always come back to say "With Denard at qb, they always have a chance to win." And with his humble, team first mentality and always thanking God he is the perfect player to be the face of Wolverine Nation. I'm truly thankful to have Denard on this Michigan Wolverines team.

Is the reason I vowed to make as many road games as I could this year (sadly, only 2 are possible: IU down, Purdue to go).

Next year will be tough since my time here as a student will be at an end, but my goal to see Denard play as much as possible will remain. Why? Because one day I want to show Denard highlights to my kids and tell them that daddy saw this amazing man play football in person, and it was glorious.
