Michigan extends 2017 offer: Anthony Hines III

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Noticed this checking out the offer list on ESPN RN.

Anthony Hines III, a 6'2/218 linebacker out of East Plano in Plano, Texas.

He is currently committed to Mississippi State but has quite the offer list built already.

Did a quick search on Twitter to see when he was offered since I didn't hear about it, but I guess not too many others heard about it either since it was yesterday.

I'm blessed to have received my second offer of the day from The University of Michigan!!!! #SoBlessed #42 pic.twitter.com/KNMf7CfiMx

I believe 2017's could be born in 2000. Hockey's probably going to be the first team to get a commit born after the year 2000.

Still bizarre to me that all these young kids almost certainly view 9/11 more as something in textbooks than an experience they remember

Even the kids in HS now know very little about the actual event. Most were very young and seem to pick up bs stories and conspiracy theories off the internet. Almost scary when you here what they say about it in class.

Makes me wonder what they know/think about Michigan football. It has not been very stellar during their lifetimes. I'm seeing more and more state fans. Terrifying stuff.

If you are 16 or younger the only real UM premium games of "elite" or "near elite" in your life that you'd actually recall are the 2006 OSU-UM game and the 2011 Sugar Bowl which we won but were not impressive in.  I guess you can throw the Texas Rose Bowl game in there too for excitement versus a premier team with a great player.  We simply have not had many marquee matchups combined with a top 5 type of Michigan team the past decade.

My memory starts around age 5 and by that I mean music - I vaguely remember Super Bowl contestants around 6-7.  Maybe for other people its 4 but most people are not comprehending football before age 5-6.  So for a 17 year old today you go back 10-11 years and that's their memory bank.  There is not much UM football excellence in their memory.  And in THE GAME, a UM loss is just about the only outcome they know.  Look at Wolverine Devotee's comments for example (I think he is 18) - he sounds lost when we talk about "elite UM defense" as if it's mythology.

On the positive side it would truly take a generation and a half of mediocre to really crush things (25-35 years not 10) because while these kids born of the past 15 years have almost no first hand knowledge of an elite program their dads can still wax poetic about it.  It is very difficult to fuck up a blue blood - it takes real effort as ND tried for 15 years, and Tenn and UM are doing now.

Unless Hoke and staff truly screw up the talent infusion of 2012-2014, they should at least return UM to the typical Carr years where you had 2 understandable losses and 1-2 "wtf" losses most years.  So there should at least be a return (as a floor) to "good Big 10 team".   Mattison and Nuss should be capable of that.  We'll see if they can do elite at any point.

I have a "mixed marriage"  (i.e. my wife is a MSU grad) and we have 3 sons ages 17, 13, and 10. Our oldest has followed in my footsteps and is 100% true blue. Our younger two sons not so much. When my younger sons talk about college football it is obvious that they simply take for granted that State is the superior football program. This certainly burns me on the inside. But I am not the super-fanatic type (perhaps soft in my old age) so my feelings stay on th inside. Occassionally I will try and gently point out that things have not always been this way, and believe it or not, Michigan actually has a winning record versus State. They look at me the same way as when I talk about CDs and VCRs. Then they ask me if we had electricity when I was growing up.

Maybe this means my 8th graders' offer is coming any day!  He's 5'11", 135, so we may need to bulk him up a little.  Also he may need to start playing football.

That crazy bastard Les Miles has already offered a 2018. Yeah, that would be an 8th grader transitioning to 9th grade in the fall. It also would be a 2000 birth.

He is a 6-4/190 and is 14 years old. This is getting ridiculous. Just let them be kids.

The hell, man.

I deserve a medal, will burn promises and you're here on the planet for me. The funny thing is they don't see it or care. Let's have society keep raising kids. sad
