Michigan with exactly zero decommitments last year

Submitted by touchdown chad henne on

I was browsing for the epic number of Stanford decommitments this past cycle and came across this site, which listed Michigan as having exactly zero decommitments last year. A big change from the previous year, where I can think of at least two big decommitments just for the QB position (not that I mind anymore).

Despite losing Jay Hopson (a dubious recruiter, I know), Rodriguez and company held onto everybody. Kudos to the staff, I could've sworn there was at least one.

Sean Parker technically counts as a decommitment methinks.

I guess you could make the case that last years was, on average, lower rated than in classes past, and for many of the commits, Michigan was their best offer. We definitely did a good job of filling our needs, but the class as a whole was a little lighter on the star power than typical for a Michigan class.

Having said that, Shavodrick Beaver chose Tulsa over us. So who knows. I am happy we managed to keep all of our commits together.

How does Sean Parker count?  Should we throw in Grimes too?  I think the lack of decommits has more to do with the coaching staff handling the whole process better than the year prior.  Rich Rod said himself that the year before they mistakenly pressured for the verbal even before the kid had seen campus.  Last year the staff gave the kids time to make up their minds and be sure before they commited.

The coaches took a few less risks on kids that would probably/possibly decommit.. and I'm wondering if it's why we saw more recruiting focused locally (Ohio), so kids would be closer to home and less afraid of committing...

decommitments are the exception, not the rule. more often than not, when a kid commits somewhere he ends up signing with that school. you should be more surprised when we have decommitments as opposed to when we don't.

Too many media types made too much of transfers, decommits.  All part of hiring a new coach and putting his program in place.   However, the local TMZ media will turn nothing into something at all costs.  Problem is ... too many people believe anything they hear.  Go Blue !!!!

It was unfortunate that he didn't qualify but I would still count him because he was a part of the class at one time. Last year though the staff did a much better job in terms of recruiting for needs and scheme.

Does anyone know the backstory on all the Stanford decommits?  Is there a common force driving all these players to decommit?  Is it a bunch of different reasons? Is it a coincidence?

KID pulls out cell phone and dials

KID: Hey, coach! It's me!

COACH: [through receiver] Hey, KID. What's up?

KID: Good news. I've decided; I'm gonna be a Cardinal.

COACH'S OFFICE. IT IS A SMALL ROOM. COACH IS ON THE PHONE.

COACH: [through receiver] That's fantastic!

KID: Gotta go. We're making the announcement.

COACH hangs up. COMPLIANCE GUY enters.

COMPLIANCE GUY: What's up Coach?

COACH: Just heard from KID. He's in!

COMPLIANCE GUY throws a folder in front of coach. A 2.76 GPA is clearly visible.

COMPLIANCE: No he isn't.

COACH: Awwwwwwwww!
