The idea of creating a composite of computer ratings and human polls wasnt a bad idea, but the fact that this poll was once used to decide who plays in the national championship game and who doesnt, was probably the biggest flaw of the BCS.

What's clear is that those polled don't like change. Once a team becomes entrenched in its spot, the voters really don't like to unseat them unless they absolutely have to. Likewise, they don't want to add anyone back in, either. We're playing better football than both Ohio State and Michigan State on the whole. Our wins have been against better teams with much bigger margins. How those two teams can still rank in the top 3 based on this season, five games in - not one game in, but five - just shows that the polls are really more of a popularity contest than anything else. Either that or none of the voters have actually seen any of the games.

Anybody here with an  opinion similar to the AP or Coaches' rankings should ask themselves:
who did each of the top 5 teams play?  What were the scores? How strong were the teams they played based on the prior rankings?  Then do the same for the other 20 teams in the top 25.

Even if you spend a half hour of your busy day reviewing these facts,  I wonder how much you will remember about them when you make your rankings.  I wonder whether you actuallly even consider what you do remember when you rank the teams.

Indeed, neither MSU or OSU has played any of the teams in the current top 25 linked above, yet they are ranked #1 and #3.  Did voters even consider the fact that both teams' latest wins were not detrmined untill essentially the end of each game?  Both against unranked teams?  Including MSU's home game against a terrible Purdue team?   Did they consider last week how the quality of MSU's best opponent (now unranked Oregaon) plummeted in the computer polls after  the latter lost by 42 points to Utah?  Not much, I think, since MSU remained #2 last week.

Have to say I'm really enjoying the season so far. No clear cut runaway team like in years past. Could make a case for quite a few teams to win the title at this point.

I'm confident that OSU will round to form by November, but TCU, Bama, LSU, and possibly even Clemson can all make cases to dethrone them in January. I leave out MSU because of their injury bug and that their secondary will cost them a game or two at some point. Thought about Baylor, but until they stop playing cupcakes like Southern Central Texas State University and actually beat someone of substance, I don't think they're a real contender. Try putting up 60 on Oklahoma, Briles.

If we imagine that the list is unranked, it seems like a reasonable top 25 tier. At this point, it is pretty meaningless to compare teams with one "good loss" and teams with no losses but several "bad wins." I'm happy we are in the list, and I don't think anyone should read into our rank. Its within our power to finish 10-2.

If interested UMs range is 11 to 23.  Highest distribution is 20, 17, 23 in that order.  No problems with that as BYU is the lone quality win thus far.
