Michigan Engineering Transfer Admissions
I was worried it was an April fools day prank, but when I checked Wolverine Access today they had posted the admissions decisions.
I am overwhelmed to say that I was admitted to the BSE CS program as a transfer student. I can't wait until fall! Go Blue!!
I too transferred from LSA into IOE, then IOE to ME a few years back. It was a ton of work and some risk as I actually took some engineering classes prior to even being admitted just to prove to the transfer counselor that I belonged. She told me during my last meeting with her to stop trying because I would never get in. I thought that rather fucking odd.
The day I walked across the stage and received my ME diploma a part of me wanted to shove it up her ass. Alas I did no such thing.
Congrats in all sincereity as I for one know exactly how relieved and blessed you must feel today. Good luck.
...don't you have to sit out a year after transferring? Seriously though, this is a wonderful thing. A Michigan degree is respected the world round.
Never, ever listen to a counselor who says you can't do it.
You CAN do it!
BSE CS? You are going to get so much ass.
Best of luck, loved North Campus....
GO BLUE!
Thanks guys. I'm a married Army veteran (non-traditional student). After almost a decade in the Army I was medically discharged, and I've spent the last 2 years completing all the required classes to transfer. It's been a long journey for me to get here and I am beyond excited!
Also, my 3 year old daughter has been telling everyone, "My daddy's going to Michigan!" she watches all the games with me and is excited too!
one the happiest days of my life -- receiving a degree was another. Thanks for sharing and best of luck.
Many congrats and best of luck.
Go Blue!
good luck my man. And thanks for your service
Awesome! Congrats!
I had to transfer from another school (shall remain nameless), did a year of LSA while taking engineering prerequisites, and then transferred in to the ME program. Needless to say that when one creates a "burning bridge" to get somewhere, it's really motivating.
On the transferring part, I think they let me in because I wrote that I'd just keep applying until they let me in (I guess a good GPA didn't hurt either).
Again, Congrats!
Why is this board worthy?
Congratulations anyway.
Maybe not board worthy, but definitely a cool moment and not worthy of being negged ime. Maybe if this was happening daily or weekly we'd have to put a stop, but these kinds of posts only come up once a month or so. It's fun
I can agree with that. I shouldn't be so salty. My bad.
People (including myself) feel very excited about some things. Often, we want to tell the world, regardless of whether the world is interested or not. I have been frustrated with the overwhelming (and sometimes lacking significant substance) user posted content of late. I should not have directed my Negative Nancy attitude towards the OP.
are you just trying to be contrarian?
Does the DECA in your name have any relation to the business club DECA? Just wondering
DECA's kind of a family tradition for me. My mom went to the ICDC in Kansas City when she was in high school, I made it and went to Salt Lake City last year, and just found out my little brother is heading to Anaheim this year. Had some awesome experiences with DECA.
big congrats on getting into Michigan and thank you for your service to this country
Why is a post asking people what booze they're drinking on a Friday night board-worthy?
Congrats Decadoug both on your service in uniform and on your impending hellish classload. We need more home-grown engineers.
A drinking thread is always worthy on Friday, and every other day. It is my own fault. I was just being Party Pooper Pete. My comment was moronic. Allow me to elaborate.
First, this is great news, that I would undoubtedly be excited to share with the board.
Second, I should know exactly what I am going to get when I click "Michigan Engineering Transfer Admissions." Just like you should know exactly what you are going to get when you click "Friday Drinking Open Thread."
Third, this board has been blowing up the past two weeks with user content. It is somewhat frustrating to wade through everything. A cumilation of the excessive treading and a very long Monday led to me directing my frustration in the wrong direction.
Bonus: What do you mean by "home-grown" engineers?
It's pretty common knowledge that a large percentage of engineering students are foreign-born. When I was in grad school, I was the only American-born GSRA in an office of 11. One of the good things about UofM is that it attracts the best and brightest from around the world. However, our immigration policies make it difficult for those students to stay in the US after graduation and contribute to our economy. Another problem is the job situation in Michigan. I was born and raised in Michigan, and would have loved to take a job in the state after graduation, but my opportunities were in California, Texas, and the East Coast.
Hopefully you did not waste your time in Tex-ass or the Freeze coast. Many MSU grads trying to get into Ca but Wendy's isn't hiring now. Use that UM diploma and keep California Spartan free.
Congrats and thanks!
Great work!
I got into LSA for the fall of 2013. Im super excited to be sitting in the Big House and Crisler cheering on the Wolverines. Probably going to major in Financial Mathmatics if anyone cares.
/serious, I like the details of posters, makes the board more personal
Does anyone know anything about this program? What are the job prospects like after you get done?
Pretty sure that's how we ended up with credit default swaps.
As a current transfer student, I can tell you that it is just as amazing as you expect it to be.
I was also a transfer student in the Engineering School. My only advice is stick close with the other transfer students. They became my study group and some of my best friends in the world.
Welcome to the ever-growing Michigan family!
My acceptance into the university is still a day that I rememeber distinctly because of how great that I felt, and what followed were some the most academically challenging but fulfilling years in my life to date. Best of luck in your time at Michigan and thank you for your service to this country.
And thanks for your service!
I got my Eng and MBA degrees years ago and was very happy with the job offers I had. With in state tuition is was a very economical and an easy decision. Don't know how the average kid/family affords it today, especially for out of state tuition. Are many kids going two years to a more affordable school and then transferring in?
Meanwhile, I'm transferring from Engineering to LSA, also for CS. May your stint in the CoE be many times more productive than mine.
And of course, congrats! It's always great to be a Michigan Wolverine.
My daughter graduated IOE, joined a consulting firm, left and earned her MBA from Carnegie-Mellon. Now she is an executive at Siemens Inc..
My son graduated ME, and is doing very cool (and secret) stuff for the U.S. Navy.
Go Blue!
Congratulations Doug. Being a UM alum is something you'll be proud of for the rest of your life. Keep grooming that daughter for her future in Ann Arbor as well. I'll be doing the same with my daughter.
