But no point in burning the redshirt unless he was head/shoulders above LTT. Doubt he redshirts now, but I don't think it'll be a huge drop off.

I did notice that the first team OL was in for the entire game on Saturday. I wonder if they have someone else they could use at LT in those kneel down situations.

Maybe go Bars - Dawson - Pliska - Kugler - JBB in effort to try and save his redshirt if it's not meaningful playing time?

I'm not too woried about CB, at least not as much as LB.  Check it:  http://mgoblog.com/content/michigan-depth-chart-class-0

OL still looks very strong next year, as well as DLine - both groups only replace one person next year.

As for LB, we'll finally see Gedeon (4-star), McCray (4-star), and/or Furbush (3/4-star).  Gant is also in there.

I expect us to go almost exlusively 4-2-5 next year...which is basically what we run the majority of the time now.

IMO, we have 12 guys that can play with little to no dropoff NOT including the depth at NG/DT (Godin/Hurst/Mone)

The winner of the starting "BUCK" spot (who will be undersized) & Taco Charlton playing WDE in running situations.

Glasgow

Henry

Wormley

Gedeon

McCray

Lewis

Stribling

Peppers

Thomas

Hill

....that's a very solid defense next year. The biggest issue right now, is that besides the big dudes on the DL...they have no proven depth. That's what this year is for.

DL next year should be best in years.  LBs scary - stick with 2 ... Gedeon and "please help us".  Low rated guy like Chris Frey making impact in year 2 at MSU at LB - we need lower rated guy like Wangler to do that sort of crap here.

As for DBs Stribling has yet to prove anything as has Thomas.  Would not call that solid - would call those open questions who have yet to be really tested.

Hill Peppers and Lewis will  be but you need 5 and 1-2 more extra accounting for injuries in 4-2-5.  Hoping next year a Kinnel and Watson both step up to be #5 and #6.  With winner of Clark Stribling #4.

I think we'll figure it out in the secondary esp if Peppers becomes "all that" because it gives you 2 "all thats" in the DB core who you can surround by decent guys.  LBs on the  other hand...

If we land a big LB I would not be surprised if he started next year as a true freshman ala Jaylon Smith at ND.   Aside from Gedeon all the guys you listed have been non factors.  I was hoping we'd see some McCray this year but that damn injury bug.  Furbush has basically been injured his whole time here.  Gant is going to be a guy who "tried out" as a 5th year senior and won't make it.  Wangler and Winovich (if he goes back to LB) are the only other guys right now.

LB is the main issue next year.

Then in 2017 we have a ton of replacing to do on both lines.

No more LTT on the 2 deep.

Nice to see Bunting mentioned as the first "OR" as the #2 TE.

Talk about a match up nightmare with these four on the field at the same time:

Butt

Bunting

Darboh

Chesson

Size and speed. Best of luck LB's trying to cover Butt and Bunting with man coverage.

He was rated the #7 kicker in America by Chris Sailer (probably the most respected for doing that). He kicked off the ground in high school, not off a tee like most. High school has a lot of wonky things as far as snaps and holds that aren't always great, so controlled settings are a much better indicator for success than game stats. We know he has a strong leg, accuracy can come with reps (whereas improving kick distance is more difficult, like improving arm strength is more difficult).

Either way...

2014 Season:
FG: (12-16)
FG Long:(58,51,50,49)
PAT:(35-37)
KO touchbacks: 96.3%
KO Avg: 66 yards

He may be struggling early on in his career, perhaps with the pressure or confidence (he's no longer head and shoulders above most others) or something else. There are plenty of valid reasons he's RS (not to mention that Michigan's kicking situation doesn't look terrible). But let's not act like Hoke just offered a kid simply because he has a strong leg.

When Hoke offered him, he was (2011) 6-9, (2012) 7-15, (2013) 5-10, and had missed around 10 EP's in three seasons. Definitely a fair amount of projecting on this offer that David's accuracy would eventually come around to his leg strength. That's not to say he will be a terrible kicker here at U-M.

I'm just stating that he wasn't exactly the most accurate guy in the country with 1,000 people watching and that a RS is likely while he works to obtain most consistency with 100,000 people watching.
