Be honest, though: were you expecting a lot of answers?
It will interesting to see how things have changed by the 6th game.
I wouldn't get to worked up about any of this... it's going to change based on matchups, injuries and game performance. It's fun to look at and speculate about but I think (especially early in the season) these are as much about motivation as they are legitimate rankings of ability. We're still young in a lot of areas but the depth and overall talent level is much better than anything we've seen in recent years and it's really exciting to envision what this team will become.
FUCK. Avery out two weeks.
Out for Notre Dame? On the plus side, they apparently don't have the receivers to test us deep consistently.
The '97 team (arguably the most dominant Michigan defense of the modern era), even with Woodson and Andre Weathers as starters, ended up using two true freshman DBs as backups. James Whitley and William Peterson, who later changed his named to Will James, started the season on the two-deep. Both played quite a bit that year.
Let's hope Stribling and Lewis have great careers at Michigan, regardless of whether they make meaningful contributions this year. Unfortunately, neither Whitley nor Peterson graduated from Michigan, as they both left early for various reasons.
Avery that's he's out two weeks?
I have two knees, does that make me out for a month?
Drake Johnson a head of Justice Hayes??????
but this shouldn't be all that stunning. Johnson ran for 2,800+ yards his senior year, just off the all-time Michigan High School single year mark, IIRC. Also a state champion in the high hurdles.
Hayes is third down back. Drake will probably get chances replacing Fitz here and there.
very true, nothing agaisnt Drake, i know hes gonna be a great back. But hopefully Justice gets some carries also
Man, we are thin at WR. No surprises, but seeing it on paper just drove it home for me. We'll need consistent contributions from the TEs in the passing game.
Yes we are. Last year it will be an issue. Next year Chesson should be a starter.... Darboh comes back, all 3 freshman this year which look to be redshirted will be next year's Darboh/Chesson and one would think Drake Harris would make a serious push for (some) playing time as a true freshman. Harris also is joined by 2 WRs in that class who will redshirt. It will be a very young WR corps...but a whole lot of them. As for this year...well yep.
is not that much of a surprise, is he? I thought he would be #2 just because the coaches always speak quite highly of him quite consistently which I cannot say for the other Rbs except for Hayes who was destined to be a 3rd down RB. I know we didn't hear too much about him lately but the same can be said for Glasgow over Braden at LG,. The coaches love to keep things very close to the vest but it is hard to contain some leaks and Johnson being high on the chart makes sense if you look at his knowledge (being in the system), ability, spring, size, etc..
Drake Johnson will now prove he's a baller.
They consistently spoke highly about Rawls last year as well. So lets not get too giddy too early about Mr. Johnson as the next great back, lets see him prove he deserves that number two spot on the depth chart.
I can't wait to get to Ann Arbor and add 20lbs when I visit. Plus many people pointed out that he weighed 230-240 in HS, they just listed him at 220lbs. Carlos Hyde is a 240lber, not worried about him, he will get playing time and move up.
I don't know what the doom and gloom is all about. Personally I feel like this is as solid of a depth chart on paper as we've had since before the Never Forget season. Proven starters, including all B1G caliber guys at QB, RB, CB1 and 2, LT, RT, SS, DT, NT, FB, WR1, Slot, TE, MLB, WLB, and to a lesser extent DE and SLB. We've got some unproven, yet hyped guys at RG and Nickel. Center, LG, WR2 and FS are the only spots where someone need to step up, but there's no real reason to feel the guys penciled in can't hack it. 4 question marks out of 22 ain't too bad.
Show me a depth chart for any other school outside of the Alabamas of the world that doesn't have the same or more question marks. This is college football where you get 4 years and you're forced to move on. On average a quarter of the roster is gone every year. New guys and unknowns stepping up is the norm, not the exception.
I. Can't. Wait.
This week is going to take forever...
Gotta love the Drake.
I think too many posters were just focusing on his star rating out of high school, which could have been a function of his not doing the camp circuit more than anything else. Given his size and speed (not just fake 40 times, but proven in his track exploits), as well as his highschool football stats, he really should have been rated higher by the recruiting services coming out of high school.
I don't think the knock on him was ever his speed but that he needed to practically stop to change directions. Maybe as a complement to Fitz as short yardage guy, that's not that big of a deal, but I really doubt he's the starter if *knock on wood* Fitz gets dinged.
Exactly. Size and speed aren't everything and I've read the same thing about his change of direction. There's more to football than meets the eye.
I hope to see Drake Johnson make an impact this year. Supposedly he is really good at pushing the pile in the 3rd and short situations and he also is the fastest back we have.
I read on thewolverine.com that Brady Hoke actually wanted to play Drake in the bowl game last season.
I think many of us have discounted him (myself included) up until this point. It will be interesting to see what he can do once he gets a chance.
Sorry for a weak first post, but how long has Jordan Paskorz been a TE?
I think since last season.
Glasgow over Henry is a bit suprising isn't it? Henry always seems to beast in highlights and in the spring game and the other players on the team always seem to talk about how impossibly quick and strong he is and bring him up as the next break out player. Glasgow I don't even remember hearing anything about him till a couple weeks ago.
Defensive line will be rotated heavily so Henry will get his reps.
what Drake does. Great opportunity for him to grab this thing by the horns and never look back.
into the depth chart to much, we all know its never accurate maybe a motivation tool to some players but its never exact.
Drake Johnson looked to be the backup for awhile, in fact, I had this exact offensive depth chart when Darboh went down minus Bryant/Glasgow. I had Glasgow and Henry switched on defense, McCray and SLB and Gedeon at MLB.
