Man, it's a game of inches fellas....

Begin at 0:34......... Ezeh gets steer wrestled to the ground by the guard, Leach gets destroyed on the edge, and Floyd is getting sealed to the outside.  There is a clear lane there with a pulling lineman leading the way.  If it wasn't for a great effort by Mouton to grab a shoelace as he's falling down, this play might go to the house.

Oh my.

I just watched Ezeh/Moundros on every play and I think Ezeh was better out of the two of them. Ezeh wasn't a world-beater, but I think he will have a pretty good week in the UFR. He looks like he is diagnosing runs sooner, but he still allows himself to get blocked out of the play too every so often. As they show in one of the replays, the fumble in the redzone was an indirect result of him getting to the FB early so that Floyd can get in and get his helmet on the ball to pop it out. Hopefully, he continues to improve throughout the year and we can see him go in the later rounds of the draft.

I did not watch UM on defense after UConn's second drive where they drove down the field pretty easily and then had the FG blocked. I figured I would just drive myself crazy, so I only watched the O.

Seeing as how that worked out PERFECTLY, I will not watch these review videos nor will I watch a single snap of UM on defense the rest of the season. I figure we are pretty much guaranteed to be awesome if I don't watch.

Just figured I would do my part to help UM to a perfect season.

I thought for sure Shoemate was going to score on that play.

I thought Mouton played pretty well.  He seemed to finally use his athleticism well, blowing up a few of UConn's plays. 

I was also pleasantly surprised at how well James Rodgers played.  I figured that the practice hype would die early, and he would be yanked for a freshman, but he handled his business. 

Good for both of them, and may they keep it up. Please?

I thought the Linebacking play was great. Whatever Gerg is doing with them is working. 

Our D-line did well as expected. 

When we only rushed 3, is when we seemed to get burnt the most.  Hopefully we always have a 4th pass rush coming from somewhere.  When the QB had time, they seemed to find the open reciever.

All in all a great start to the season.  Truly a team effort with lots of players flying to the ball. 

Man are they playing fast.

i forgot how many near interceptions we had.  i really hope we pull in some of those against nd.

towards the end of the defense video Cullen #24 was pretty lucky on one tackle and just missed one completely on the next play.

Talbott #22 missed a pick which is too bad. I love it when young players have early succes.

T Gordon gave me some confidence with carvin going down. It thought they both played well. Carvin was all of the place 

We rolled coverage!  We reacted to their formation!  We brought up the FS unblocked directly into the play!  Our RS freshman safety took proper outside technique!  True freshman Spur holds the point of attack!  Superstar sophmore LB, who we worry about moving laterally, makes TFL running to his right!

Watching the game in person, many of the missed passes/drops were caused by pressure/hurries...I remember only one flat-out drop that would have hurt us..

I thought Brian said in his quick summary that the DL didn't really beat any UCONN OL 1-on-1 (Roh's "sack" was moving past a RB)? 

At 0:26: Roh rolls the Tackle easily on his way to the QB, Martin splits a double team (though granted, the wrong guard doubled) on his way to the QB, and even Van Bergen beats his man and joins the party.  This is glorious!  Wonderful pressure from a 3-man line against 5 blockers, causing a rushed throw

I'm going to stop watching now! 

I'm trying to watch only the spur, where Carvin Johnson started and Thomas Gordon filled in after Carvin's injury. Its primary assignment seems to be slot coverage. Most of UConn's plays, ground and air alike, went away from the position.

0:01 - Receiver holds his block but Carvin helps blow up the screen anyway.

0:54 - In on the tackle.

1:44 - Carvin's fault? Someone else's? Miscommunication? I can't tell. No harm done, though.

2:38 - Same question. Don't know if it's a zone thing or if Carvin didn't pursue.

4:02 - Good coverage.

4:39 - Shows blitz, covers slot, does his job.

5:30 - Enter Gordon. Like the first play of the game, the receiver holds his block on the spur but Moundros is free to drop the ballcarrier for minimal gain. Definitely a positive play from Gordon.

6:12 - Gordon and Mouton drop back into the same zone. First down for UConn. Hmm.

6:18 - Double Gordon tackle.

6:54 - Jubilant teammate duty. Yay hugz

8:45 - Looks like a rad play to me. Avoids the block, in position for hypothetical tackle, etc.

9:18 - Good coverage.

The position had five tackles on the day, all assisted, three downfield, and two for a loss or no gain.

Against UConn, the spur was a positional of minimal impact. Will it be more active against Notre Dame with its spread offense? Will it cover Kyle Rudolph? Will I eat a burrito?

we were wish-wish-wishing for this offseason: Roh and Mouton using their north-south super powers to provide pressure from the edge, the QB choosing meekness over death.  Roh's speed is obvious.  Mouton's inside move is quite sick.  The RB (intended receiver) disappears, I assume eaten by Martin

I'm going to keep watching.  Brian! - that's another play where our rushers easily beat their OL 1-on-1

The synergistic aspect of defense with guys who are athletic and more experienced (at some spots), knowing where they are going through good preparation, and hopefully against an offense that is pressured to make things happen to keep up with our offense, brought good results on Saturday.

Enough pressure and surge from a pretty good defensive line to aid an inexperienced secondary.

I have no doubt that formula will keep surprising folks this year. 

It is only a matter of another recruiting class and another offseason of learning the ways of GERG and this will be a unit that stands tough as any.

that's Roh running around an OT for the 3rd time today.  It's not even close.  Both tackles now, he's done that.

It was yet again a good defensive play call, blitzing (sent Jones, 6 overall - though whether Mouton is 'going' is debatable) with the desired result: a rushed throw / incomplete pass.  This is not lucky, nor is it UCONN failing (like on the pass 2 plays before it) - this is good footbaw

2:24  ROGERS BLOW SHIT UP!!  3:34  HULK SMASH!!  3:40  Pressure causes poor throw

UCONN played poorly?  I'm not buying it.  Through one half of football, these are good plays.  Good play calls, good physical play.  Rogers walks up to the line like he was expecting that pass - great coaching, great player recognition

A lot of the poor throws were caused by pressure, a lot of the drops weren't going for shit anyway.  Disappointing freak play at half's end - Gordon will decapitate next time.

where Patterson drops into coverage.  The QB throws it right into his grill.  Your preparation will now need to include that, ND.  Though maybe we did it last yr

8:52 - Probably an undisciplined play; Banks makes a TD saving tackle.  If the other RB had been in, this probably goes for 6.  Shouldn't happen when we've got 8 on the line

9:00 - Who makes the game-sealing tackle?  Ezeh.

This is not bad fellas.  Not bad at all.  Sure, need to clean it up.  But lots to build on here.  That OL for UCONN pulls and traps well - they'll beat some people in 2010.

Can anyone find the Cam gordon Hit(Time wise in the movie)? I quickly looked through and couldn't find it but i remember VIVIDLY when watching the game that he had a monster hit.
