Michigan Daily on the Maryland Game

Submitted by The Mad Hatter on

By outscoring its last three opponents 94-14 and entering the polls for the first time since Nov. 2, 2013, Michigan looks like it has the potential to surpass preseason expectations.

TL/DR?  We're going to beat them badly, 23 - 0.

If the weather is bad its going to keep us on the ground (and likely them too which means more 3 and outs for them rather than interceptions). Probably a low scoring game which we're never really not in control of.

I say 21-7 and they get that touchdown in garbage time.

If the weather is ok enough for a passing game give the good guys another touchdown or two.

I agree with their score. I think this is going to be a very low scoring game. I just don't see either side getting into the 30's (obviously Maryland won't) due to the wind/weather.

Maryland might be able to score on us but it won't be in a drive like fashion. It'll have to happen on a turnover or special teams play.

*ahem* Turtles should be taken very seriously. I distinctly remember reading an article about a zoo in Berlin where a turtle had somehow made its way into the lions pen. Zookeepers rushed in as fast as they could once they found out but it was too late, the lions were already dead.

Even when we had a Hall-of-Fame head coach in Lloyd Carr, we were constantly not ready to go on the road. 2000 @ Purdue, 2003 @Iowa, and  2005 @ Wisconsin in particular come to mind. Throw those in with the last seven years on the road, and you have a not-so-great feeling heading into Saturday.

If this week even goes as well as 2011 @ Illinois (31-14 W), I will be happy.

the let down could come from the game being moved to noon.  I also think that the crowd is going to be sparse and that it could have more of a "scrimmage" feel.  I think Michigan will eventually pull away and win but I think it is going to be a slog-fart with a ridiculously low half time score like 6-0.

Prediction 20-7.  Difficulty staying awake if watched live.

Its on turf not grass so mud won't be found.

This is a bad team but caleb rowe - in between his INTs - does throw deep balls so it will be interesting to watch the secondary and how tested they are.   Their OL is not super but the one thing they tend to stop is TFLs and sacks so good test for the DL as well.

10, 7, 7, 0

And that 10 was on the road vs a Utah team that dropped 55 offensive points at Oregon.

It's going to be a lot of fun abusing the crappy offenses of the Big Ten

I do think Utahs offense is getting better and we did played them with Travis Wilson but to be fair they had a pretty experienced QB vs Utah State and that 1-2 team held them to 24 too.  I will wait a few weeks before I describe that Utah offense as explosive.   That felt like a game of snowballing and emotion and it all imploded on Oregon.

Utah will need to score pts (and can) vs a soft Cal defense in 2 weeks so will be interesting to see how they react.  Also curious how much Cal can put up on Utah - if its teens then our results becomes more impressive.

that Oregon's defense is just really bad.  I'm calling it, you heard it here first - Oregon is slipping and will not continue to be an elite team.  There is/will be a movement back toward more pro-style offenses and they will be slow to adapt.  They will see a few years where they are a fringe Top 25 team who does not compete for national titles or Pac 12 titles for that matter for a few years.

This absolutely will not happen. You don't just kick your last 20 years of identity to the curb for a bad season or two. They were just in the national title game last year. Talk about overreaction.

I think the defense is going to improve to "panic inducing" by the end of the season.  QB's are going to get rid of the ball as quickly as possible to avoid getting knocked into next week.

1997.  Outstanding defense, capable offense.  Now Rudock isn't as good as Griese, but there are more than a few similarities between the two teams.
