4 WRs are seniors and with the prevelance of 3 WR sets we should have around 10 on scholarship for proper competition.
Michigan could be taking 4 receivers
I only count 3 Sr. WRs: Gallon, Dileo, and Jeremy Jackson... who is the 4th?
Ahh ok, I was only looking at the scholarship guys because, well, scholarships.
Reynolds is on scholarship. Grizzly Adams did have a beard.
They are counting on Joe Reynolds to take reps this fall, so that could be a fourth.
This further indicates that the class is going to be probably 20 guys. Attrition is inevitable and there are some fifth years in line for the firm handshake.
Ash, Paskorz Hagerup?
We don't really publicly speculate on the names... but you can usually look at the depth chart and draw some pretty good conclusions. No reason to think this year will be any different in that regard.
Why is that particular topic taboo on this board? I have never understood this.
I think it's basically an issue of decorum. You're talking about college-aged kids who are, at best, 22 years old that play a game for our amusement. Often speculation about their place on the team or in school is in the context of "are they being kicked off/out because they broke a rule" or "will they be here next season because they aren't playing well." Out of general respect for the players, speculation without confirmation from the program about their status with the team is kept to a minimum.
Seems like Borges wants to be able to do anything with the offense he wants depending on what teams are throwing at him. Giant and athletic tight ends, speedy slot guys with after the catch ability, big fast downfield threats, and a violent run game. Sounds like a recipe for success to me. We're gonna be multiple on both sides of the ball.
who are the speedy slot guys?
Norfleet and Dileo... and we have Artavis Scott targeted.. Dude is like an electric pinball
Awesome comment. Sadly I can only upvote you once for it.
Has Norfleet ever played slot? And Dileo isn't all that speedy, let alone a Borges recruit.
If anything, WR recruiting under Hoke has been notable for the lack of speedy slot guys, making the current WR recruiting situation interesting.
They haven't added anyone yet, but it changes if we take both Scott and Canteen. Sound like both of them are speedy, slot guys.
I would expect to see at least one of those speedy, 6'0/6'1" guys that we've recruited at DB last year and this year to end up on the offensive side of the ball, too. That would fill that slot need pretty well, especially since at least a couple of those guys played receiver in high school.
There's just too much talent that we've recruited there lately to keep them off the field, but you can't play dime defenses all day, either.
I know this has been brought up several times but Jourdan Lewis was turning a lot of heads at wr last year.
It was reported not to long ago that Norfleet will play the slot this year.
I'll go with Da'Mario Jones. He seems like a run after the catch guy and is reported to have 4.4 speed. Plus, more convincingly, schools from the south were in contact with him.
Four WRs in the 2014 class? It sounds like "We had subs it was crazy" talk to me, but what do I know?
so we can stop with the "zomg what if Canteen takes Scott's spot?!?" comments.
has said that yet in this thread.
I think he just did.
I knew it
With that gif I know someone's been browsing reddit...
Further adding to an offense that will feature lethal tight ends and a punishing running game?
Yeah, I'll take it.
It's settled. We're taking Dorial Green-Beckham and Artavious Scott to round out the 2014 WR haul.
...and Treadwell too.
These never get old guys! Keep 'em coming!
could be a difference maker.
say that to my face
What about Stefon Diggs?
Still holding out for Tyroil Smootchie-Wallace to flip from Miami (YTM).
I'd prefer Donkey Teeth
To end this silly argument once and for all, Bosch WILL be enrolling early.
Oh, and something about Fred Jackson, Alex Kozan, intergalactic recruiting and non-committable offers
Any word on Gardners redshirt? Jordan Diamond favors us right now. Dunn is a shoe in with our offense, compared to Ohio's.
Kris Frost is a silent commit. Do we still have room for another LB?
Kelly Baraka quit smoking weed and still has eligibility!
Alex Kozan is transferring to Michigan.
Trevor Laws woke up a Wolverine
He's gotta be eligible now. Probably getting admitted soon.
Considering that Scott is rumored to have Michigan as his leader and KJ Williams could be a backup plan. Wasn't sure how Canteen fit in there but if the coaches are hoping for Scott and Canteen as their final two, that clicks a bit more
WR may be our only glaring need besides safety. There is clock to be had. D. Harris being an EE is a bonus.
IIRC Breaston was pretty big time as an athlete. At least a high 4* type prospect I believe
Because recruiting sites like Rivals and Scout have only been a thing since like 2002, but I would say Drew Henson, no question.
If we're talking just about receivers, it has to be David Terrell. Darryl Stonum was also pretty highly rated (#7 WR by Rivals, #12 by Scout).
Pretty sure Terrell was the #1 WR in his year, but ratings were not so sophistcated or widespread then.
Terrell and Walker were the #1 and #3 WRs coming out of high school I believe
I'm usually only there to check out stuff on my high school (St. Peter's Prep, where Jon Hilliman '14 and Minkah Fitzpatrick '15 are from) and stuff about Rutgers. It's decent, some die hard fans there who say some dumb things, but they love the school so I can't really complain. It's the only thing that ever talks about Rutgers sports (recruiting and all).
I see a career / business opportunity for some enterprising Rutgers fan: RGoBlog.
Pretty poor offer list for a 4 star on Rivals...
How is it a poor offer list? Michigan is on there.
DT was a 5 Star, Walker was a 4 Star I believe. The 1998 recruiting class was huge at the time.
And also was more than 15 years ago.
Didn't want to get too semantical but you have to recruit the players before they graduate. We are now recruiting for 2014 and 2015. More to the point, I think OP had precisely David Terrell in mind when asking his question.
I was more thinking guys who have actually graduated because he said "out of high school", but I get it your way too.
I believe Sam Webb just pulled a Corso on twitter and said the WR # is still at 3.
For the board's reference, if you search Rivals for wide receivers as yet uncommitted but with Michigan offers for the 2014 class, you get 11 names, several of which have been discussed here extensively :
|WR||Josh Malone||4 stars|
|WR||Jalen Brown||4 stars|
|WR||Malachi Dupre||4 stars|
|WR||Mark Andrews||4 stars|
|WR||Artavis Scott||4 stars|
|WR||Saeed Blacknall||4 stars|
|WR||K.J. Williams||4 stars|
|WR||Corey Holmes||4 stars|
|WR||Juwann Winfree||4 stars|
|WR||Freddy Canteen||4 stars|
|WR||Isaiah McKenzie||3 stars|
I will say that I was a little surprised that the list was this short, but if one is talking about taking two more WRs from a list which is almost exclusively 4-stars, it's not a bad position at all.
