Michigan Commits/Targets Shine at Nike Camp

Submitted by the monarch on

This very informative article on the Nike camp was posted in a thread by GehBlau. I think it deserves its own thread, but I saw he didn't have the points to do so.

The article shows that  A. Washington and D. Stanford have very high interest in Michigan--the most I've seen to date. And that Michigan commits dominated in Columbus:

While plenty of parents were wearing Ohio State gear on the sidelines of the camp, there wasn't any being worn on the field. Ironically it was archival Michigan's maize and blue that littered the field. Quarterback Shane Morris, linebacker James Ross and cornerback Terry Richardson were among the top performers and represented their future school well on enemy territory. Richardson was the most recent to commit to going to Ann Arbor for college and discussed his verbal pledge last week.

“I committed to Michigan because I felt comfortable with them,” he said. “I did like Alabama and all the other schools but I felt the best at Michigan and that's why I picked them. I have a lot of friends going there and we'll make it happen up there.”

Richardson injured his hamstring at a track meet the night before running the 200 meters but still managed to lock down opposing receivers. He was one of several players whispering in a few recruits' ears about how good it was to be a Michigan man.

The Hoke/Mattison combo has to be one of the best recruiting combinations in the nation (and Fred Jackson, too). Certainly the best we've had in a while.

If we can reel in Dwayne Stanford and Adolphus Washington this class will border on elite in my eyes. I really think we need a playmaker at WR, especially atfer Stonum and Hemingway leave.

that they have managed to sign so many great players before reality sets in this year--goes a long way to guaranteeing that they will ultimately succeed. It's almost the reverse of what happened with Rich.

I think Michigan could really struggle this year--even dampen recruiting for next year with it--but some great players (looks like) will be in the pipe. Hopefully a great D begins to emerge sooner rather than later.

Why do you think hard times are coming this year?  The offense is extremely talented and even though they are dealing with a new scheme, I see it being very good.  The defense will not be good still but it HAS to be better.  We won 7 games last year, you don't see 8+ wins this year?

My head says 8 wins, but my heart says 9.  I don't think this team is going to dampen the recruiting landscape, If the coordinators are as good as we think...it should only get people more excited.

Glad to see even in Columbus Michigan is represented.  Hope the example that Ross, Richardson, Morris, and others set will send a message to some of our targets.

There's a storm brewing north of tsio.  They're smiling nervously and waving off our recruiting success as a mere blip on the radar (much like Sparty is doing).  But it's the dawn of a new era and this year's commits (plus Shane Morris) are creating quite a stir.  The people that matter (the top recruits in the Midwest and beyond) can sense it and I think a lot of them don't want to miss out by not securing their spot.   I like where we're at right now.

You gotta love the swagger - our guys walking around OSU with their Michigan gear on! It just shows an attitude like "hey - we're here and we're taking over this league again, so take notice".

To me  if there is one and only one  bright side to being down....These last few years is that  it sure is fun working our way back to the Top....  I gotta admit going back to the early 60's as a Michigan fan I personaly got spoiled  and taking for grated the great players we have had over the years .. Not any more

will be scary good in the years to come. Don't think we see Stonum play this year, but thank goodness we have some receiver talent to rely on. I believe what the person above said; 8 wins okay, 9 better. I believe you will see UM playing harder to win every one; looking forward to some fundamentally sound team play, and return of some attitude that says 'failure is not an option.'

the best part of the whole thing is that shane Morris got the Qb mVp even with Zeke Pike there. Glad to see we have DG replacement all lined up
