Chicago Tribune ranked the Big 10 today. Michigan came in at #2. Unfortunately, MSU is at #1, which is crummy for Big 10 Tourney Seeding. I definitely would have liked our chances versus OSU or Purdue. Still, to be the best, you have to beat the best. If we can win two games, and then beat MSU, that would be an incredible boost for the NCAA. And I'd like our chances for a 2nd Tournament Championship, should we beat MSU. Here's their top 5:

  1. MSU
  2. UM
  3. Purdue
  4. OSU
  5.  Nebraska

I love how Michigan is playing as a TEAM. The fact that UM has no one on the Big 10 first team speaks volumes to what Beilein is doing. Michigan, with 8 great guys, is better than OSU with the POY and Tate, but nothing beyond that.

Ohio State moved up three spots for beating Rutgers at home and needing two overtimes to beat Indiana. Michigan moved up two spots for winning two conference road games against middle of the pack teams. I don't understand the OSU love. What have they done that we haven't? They beat Purdue at the last second and we got screwed at the last second. They have zero impressive nonconference wins and have a distinct possibility of losing to Penn State for the third time this season on Friday.

a travesty.  Consider this:

1) Their biggest win - vs #16 Tennessee.

2) They have lost 2 of their last 3 - Florida and a pathetic 16-13 South Carolina team.

3) They played ALL dogs in their non-conference schedule.  No big tourneys.  Still managed to lose to Temple.

They suck.  Hope the Hogs stick it to them tomorrow night!

Just cant understand how you could vote them ahead of us.  We would be favored by 5+ in a neutral site game, and have earned right to be ranked higher.  And we have earned right to be seeded higher - period.

can blame the genius in the Michigan scheduling department for those "SOS Killer" games vs. the 13-18 North Florida Ospreys, the 14-17 Jacksonville Dolphins, and my favorite, the Alabama A&M Bulldogs and their stellar 2-26 record.  Whoever in Ann Arbor that scheduled these three ass sniffing losers should be fired for cause.  Chaminade didnt help either, but that was the Honolulu tourney.  But at least we played North Carolina, UCLA, Texas and LSU, going 2-2.

Go to Auburn's non-conference schedule, and name for me one team that is better than those four.  Their non-conference scheduler was smart - nobody scary, no turds in the punchbowl like 2-26 Alabama A&M.  We should hire the guy.

Bottom line - we are better than Auburn, I dont care what the goddamn charts say.  At least the Coaches poll got it right.  Go Blue!

significantly more enjoyable than arguing about topics that "matter" - like abortion, gun control and illegal immigrants - topics virtually nobody changes their opinions about.

The ranking/seeding of Michigan v Auburn - now that is worth debating!!!  You may even change someone's opinion if you make a good argument.  Much more fun!

Auburn is no worse than a 3 seed in any of them. They're a 2 seed in more than half. The polls have us higher because we're hot now. Those cupcake games make very little difference in the way the teams are seeded. Bad teams at home are about the same as hopeless teams at home.

We're behind Auburn because they've lost two fewer games and in a conference with 8-10 tournament teams. LSU is #10, btw. The Big Ten is a longshot to have 5.

Have it your way. Going to be hilarious when Brian shuts down the forum again after we beat your ass in NYC... if you even make it to the semis.

You guys prove why everybody in the conference hates your school's fans. Congrats on being dicks to any fan of another school. Something to be proud of.

Yup, it's either that  or "Walmies".    It's probably about over 50% of the fanbase that uses that term in all their posts too.   They  truly are obsessed with that retailer.       And sure we sometimes say "Suckeyes" but I bet it's a way lower percentage that says that all the time in one's post.

You see, your first comment was fine. Pointed out an observation previous onlookers might have missed, that adds value to the blog IMO and I think the majority of fans can appreciate and not get triggered at the sight of sparty on their own blog.

Buuuuuut this one's where you lost it. Adds no value, just trying to stir the pot. And very easily offended when a fan on the blog you're trolling offends you.

So you had it... and then you lost it. Kind of resembling the beatdown you took to your only rival this year. 82-72. Go Blue baby.

OK,ska4punkkid's response was out of line - there was nothing wrong with your first comment.  But realistically, you're going to get some of that on a rival message board.  You've got to ignore that and stay above the fray if you want to be accepted here, instead of getting into a pissing match.

Just trolls from OSU MSU and Penn State.

FYI...  Everyone outside of Ohio hates OSU's fans (not MI) and no cared about MSU so they didn't feel the need to hate MSU.  Your school chose the wrong way to gain notarity so now everyone laughs at your school and hates your school.

My advice:  Chill.  Stay above the fray.

I post here, 11Warriors and also occasionally on RCMB.  I honestly prefer visiting boards because of the "echo chamber" effect that often occurs if you stay on your own board.

Anyway, there's a "FUCK PENN STATE" contingent on all those boards ---- fair enough, that's their opinion.  But I generally don't engage with those folk, and I've found that keeps my  conversations here on mgoblog respectful and at a high level.

I do the same and this Spartan guy just doesn't get it.

In another thread posting the B1G tourney, he judged Michigan fans for getting excited about potentially getting revenge on Nebraska ("I just thought you guys had higher aspirations than beating a mediocre Huskers team"), he went on defense of Izzo & Dantonio (Why? You're not going to win that debate here.)  He pointed out that Larry Nassar has a Michigan degree ("But lumping in Nassar (UM grad btw) is lazy."), as if Michigan had any role in that pedophile's protected actions on MSU grounds.  When speaking of NCAA violations - "I have no wishes to see your team implicated in any of this mess", like anybody here is concerned about the tactics used to recruit MAAR away from Rice.

He tried to take on this friendly fan persona, but his Spartan garbage leaked through in every single one of his posts.  "When you guys play a complete game, you can beat anyone in the nation."  Oh! Thanks Spartan guy! We were dying for your confirmation of our ability. I wasn't sure after whooping MSU's ass in Breslin.

NittanyFan, like you said, you have to bite your tongue and truly be humble to survive in enemy message board territory. You do it right. This guy was a fraud from his first post. And now, predictably, he's going to retreat to RCMB and tell everybody what dicks Michigan fans are without mentioning "Going to be hilarious when Brian shuts down the forum again after we beat your ass in NYC... if you even make it to the semis."

His charade wouldn't survive any B1G forum, least of all MGoBlog.

great content and good interaction.

This blog's good.  Regular and consistent content.  Hoops & hockey get nearly equal in-season coverage with football.  I love Draft-a-Geddon (for what that's worth)!  The authors have a good grasp on the B1G as a whole: I can learn stuff even on my own team in the basketball/football team previews.  UFR is very thorough and a solid breakdown of some of a football game's more "under the radar" elements.  People here are more knowledgable than most on college football advanced analytics.

That said, there are some weak points, IMO.  Some of the content gets VERY existential.  Fair enough, but sometimes it's just weird.  Brian has a "my way or the highway" approach to things: shutting down comments after the OSU game was a bad look.  Also, Brian referring to MSU hoops as "the Fightin' Larry Nassars" was ridiculous.  11W, for instance, doesn't play the "Ped State" card.  And no, the refs and Jim Delaney aren't out to sabotage Michigan athletics.  That's a growing sentiment here on the mgoblog message board.

Elsewhere, I like Husker Max for the content, though their posters are a bit crazed.  Gopherhole and Illinois Loyalty have lousy content, but good boards - Minnesota posters generally have perspective from their status as a perennial middle-of-the-pack team.  Illinois posters, it's kind of funny how they've adopted a "we'll never be good again!" attitude of late.  Indiana's "Inside the Hall" blog is under-appreciated, good content.  RCMB, there have always been a lot of "chips on shoulders" over there, even prior to the last few months.  Good interaction can still occur there, but it's tougher to find.  I appreciate the infamous "Rutgers Al" on the Rutgers Rivals board and his forever optimism about the Scarlet Knights!

"You guys prove why everybody in the conference hates your school's fans."

Sure. But then again, I'll take hatred over indifference and being a complete afterthought, nobody being aware of our existence due to our insignificance. I know that's the only thing that you know in life, but if it makes you feel any better, I'm sure that people would hate your school just as much if you were actually worth caring about in any capacity, friend. :)

To be honest, it goes with the territory. M fans/alums get ripped to shreds 99% of the time on RCMB and Eleven Warriors, no matter what is stated.

The immediate reaction is “troll.”

If you’ve read this blog long enough you’ll see there are a few fans of other schools that are respected here, namely a couple Buckeye and Nittany Lions’ fans.

lol... so, your coaches are meeting with some corrupt individuals and protecting student athletes with serious allegaitons.  I won't even touch the disgrace that's been done to the University in protecting Nassar.

One would think that you have bigger fish to fry than the often exaggerated rantings of hardcore UM fans.

Thanks for clearing that up.

It’s crazy how many MSU trolls have taken to this board since all of the shit hit their East Lansing fan. I don’t know why they feel the need to defend Izzo and Dantonio on a Michigan board. Burn that shitty school to the ground and start over.
