Michigan BB v. Houston Baptist Open Thread
December 7th, 2013 at 12:50 PM ^
1.93 Points Per Possession.
That's crazy.
December 7th, 2013 at 12:51 PM ^
It's Houston Baptist. Not much to take away other than Stauskas' ankle looks okay and GRIII can score on un-talented teams. Go Blue, though. Nice to see 100 put up.
December 7th, 2013 at 12:56 PM ^
What you take away is the roll the teams the should roll. This team will be much like last years. It will grow as the season goes and come March should be a team you don't want to play.
December 7th, 2013 at 12:52 PM ^
Admittedly, I only caught the last several minutes of the half, but I saw the box score - if you calculate it, our effective FG% is 82.35% right now. It would be nice to keep that up certainly. We also have twice the total rebounds with a defensive rebound rate of about 85% right now as well. Not a bad start at all.
December 7th, 2013 at 12:52 PM ^
We are playing well in this scrimmage.
December 7th, 2013 at 12:54 PM ^
18-1 assist to turnover ratio
That's crazy!
December 7th, 2013 at 12:57 PM ^
I'm declaring this a rivalry, just so we can win one. Beat "Houston"!
December 7th, 2013 at 12:58 PM ^
Okay Mitch. It's Houston Baptist. You can play point guard.
December 7th, 2013 at 12:59 PM ^
Apparently the strategy of the Duke game was to save our strength for Houston Baptist.
December 7th, 2013 at 1:00 PM ^
Only 60 points at halftime?!? That's it!! Fire Beilein! :-\
December 7th, 2013 at 1:01 PM ^
It's good to see the team dominating a game they should dominate and good to see the guys confident and enjoying a game.
December 7th, 2013 at 1:04 PM ^
Gotta love McGary
December 7th, 2013 at 1:09 PM ^
Eddie Basketball is retiring? Hanging up that glorious rug for good?
"Doesn't want to be a drag on the game"?
This is basically a national holiday.
December 7th, 2013 at 1:12 PM ^
"Doesn't want to be a drag......"
The last twenty years just spit up coffee.
December 7th, 2013 at 1:10 PM ^
how the offense came out looking for Mitch and Robinson. Nik will be far more effective playing off them and so will the team.
December 7th, 2013 at 1:10 PM ^
Wow...this thread is dead.

Certainly hope this shooting performance carries into next week! Loving the transition game

This announcer needs to give up on the Freight Train nickname.
December 7th, 2013 at 1:15 PM ^
Our ball handling really is not that good. Right now I'm saying HBU caveats apply everywhere throughout this game.
December 7th, 2013 at 1:16 PM ^
At least it is better than the butterfly?
December 7th, 2013 at 1:18 PM ^
Is this a community college?
December 7th, 2013 at 1:19 PM ^
McGary man . . . he has skills. We need to get him a post touch in every possession.

Dat Ass Pass
December 7th, 2013 at 1:23 PM ^
Mitch is really good at basketball guys
December 7th, 2013 at 1:28 PM ^
To be fair, he is essentially Billy Madison on a playground whipping dodge balls at little kids today.
December 7th, 2013 at 1:29 PM ^
Glad we have a full week off before Arizona to get healthy, sharpen our skills and game plan etc. hopefully just feeling good from this game will give the team a little fire and confidence going in
December 7th, 2013 at 1:31 PM ^
but I still like what I saw with the offense to start, including using Mitch to trigger the offense. For most of the game though it's just transition basketball and like last season, it's beautiful to watch.
December 7th, 2013 at 1:38 PM ^
These games are stupid. There oughta be a law!
December 7th, 2013 at 1:39 PM ^
I feel like consistency is going to be the buzzword of this season. We will rarely if ever be as terrible as the first halves vs. Duke/Charlotte, and rarely if ever be as good as we've been this game. If we can settle somewhere in the middle, we should be in good shape to win or compete in almost every game, especially at home. Good to have the early road tests, this team will be ready to go in Big Ten play.
December 7th, 2013 at 1:39 PM ^
Was that a bubble screen by HB? The guards certainly took out the defense.
December 7th, 2013 at 1:40 PM ^
This was the sort of game we needed. Also HBU's score is a little deceptive. They have hit some pretty tough shots. Obviously they count but more times than not those shots won't go in (then of course you have to rebound).
Arizona is going to have their hands full. I expect the team to have a good week of practice and will come out ready to take on the number one team in the country.
December 7th, 2013 at 2:09 PM ^
We are also going to have our hands full with them
December 7th, 2013 at 1:43 PM ^
Ah, C & C Music Factory . . .. still going strong in a sports stadium near you!

Got a chuckle out of Mitch dancing to that. These kids weren't even born when that song came out.
December 7th, 2013 at 1:53 PM ^
Mitch looked better, but he is still playing below the rim. Hopefully he gets more lift as his conditioning improves.
December 7th, 2013 at 2:08 PM ^
Great point. We need him to get in shape
December 7th, 2013 at 1:53 PM ^
Yay bball team
December 7th, 2013 at 2:10 PM ^
I'm happy they got the W, but to me, games like this are more important for just to get guys like Walton and Irvin more acclimated to the game. Hopefully they will both start rounding to form come February-March.
Knowing Beilein and his uncanny ability to develop and maximize talent, they will.
December 7th, 2013 at 2:15 PM ^
i was surprised that stauskas played as long as he did. i hope that ankle feels better. stupid ankles.
December 7th, 2013 at 2:24 PM ^
Well, he played 34 minutes against Duke and 28 minutes against Houston Freakin Baptist. I think we can officially stop worrying about the ankle.
December 7th, 2013 at 6:31 PM ^
From his neighborhood at the game. A bus load. Sat by them
Got a a few good stories from his babysitter
They've were awesome.
December 7th, 2013 at 7:16 PM ^
That's pretty cool and good for him. Nice to see him have a big game in front of friends and family.
