Michigan BB v. Houston Baptist Open Thread

Submitted by SurfsUpBlue on

It is half-time and Michigan leads 60-34.  Stauskis leads scoring with 17.  GRIII follows with 14. McGary has run the floor at least three times and dishing the ball like a point guard.  The team is putting in a solid performance.

It's Houston Baptist.  Not much to take away other than Stauskas' ankle looks okay and GRIII can score on un-talented teams.  Go Blue, though.  Nice to see 100 put up.

Admittedly, I only caught the last several minutes of the half, but I saw the box score - if you calculate it, our effective FG% is 82.35% right now. It would be nice to keep that up certainly. We also have twice the total rebounds with a defensive rebound rate of about 85% right now as well. Not a bad start at all.

Our ball handling really is not that good. Right now I'm saying HBU caveats apply everywhere throughout this game.

Glad we have a full week off before Arizona to get healthy, sharpen our skills and game plan etc. hopefully just feeling good from this game will give the team a little fire and confidence going in

but I still like what I saw with the offense to start, including using Mitch to trigger the offense. For most of the game though it's just transition basketball and like last season, it's beautiful to watch.

I feel like consistency is going to be the buzzword of this season.  We will rarely if ever be as terrible as the first halves vs. Duke/Charlotte, and rarely if ever be as good as we've been this game.  If we can settle somewhere in the middle, we should be in good shape to win or compete in almost every game, especially at home.  Good to have the early road tests, this team will be ready to go in Big Ten play.

This was the sort of game we needed. Also HBU's score is a little deceptive. They have hit some pretty tough shots. Obviously they count but more times than not those shots won't go in (then of course you have to rebound).

Arizona is going to have their hands full. I expect the team to have a good week of practice and will come out ready to take on the number one team in the country.

I'm happy they got the W, but to me, games like this are more important for just to get guys like Walton and Irvin more acclimated to the game. Hopefully they will both start rounding to form come February-March.

Knowing Beilein and his uncanny ability to develop and maximize talent, they will.
