I'm so sick of the voters giving Izzo bonus points for winning a title over a decade ago. The next-highest 7-loss team is down at #14. No way MSU should be top 10 with that many losses.

Oh darn, the lowest we've been ranked all year is #7. Shoot.

I love saying that. I love this team!

The outcome of the BTT title game has no bearing on the actual seeding because it occurs after the selection committee has already made that decision.

UM's chance at a 1-seed pretty much went out the window with PSU.

Win one more game (@Purdue or first round BTT) and 3-seed is the floor.

The outcome of the Big10 title game does have bearing on seeding.  The committee has multiple scenarios mapped out depending on the outcome of the late title games.  It does not occur after the committee has made their decision.. How could it?  A team could make the final and be in a situation where the only way they get in is winning the autobid.

Beat Purdue and win the Big10 tournament and we get a 1 seed.

My initial reaction was that we should be slightly higher, but looking at the polls overall I think it's about right. With the glaring exception of Gonzaga. I really want to be the #2 seed in their bracket if they do get a #1 seed (which seems like a foregone conclusion).

Go Blue. Beat Purdue.

Here's what the AP vote distribution looked like this week for Michigan:

1 vote for 3rd place

1 vote for 4th place

8 votes for 5th place

18 votes for 6th place

19 votes for 7th place

8 votes for 8th place

6 votes for 9th place

3 votes for 10th place

1 vote for 14th place (Paul Zeise, of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette).

That's good for an average "vote" of 6.92, compared to 4.29 last week.

Hey, if Gonzaga is a #1, they might be the first 1 seed to lose their first game.  Too bad we blew the PSU game.  But for that (and the miracle shot at Wisc), we'd be a near #1 lock right now.  Of course, we aren't playing like a 1 seed, so let's sit back and hope to be in Gonzaga's region.

Being in the the section of the bracket that has Gonzaga as the number 1 seed would be better than being a 1 seed ourselves.  Come one, #7 overall ranking!

Gonzaga is the basketball equal to Boise State and TCU in football. The body of their work over the last 10 years or so earns them the benefit of the doubt with some voters. Is it right? Probably not. I'm more interested to see where the split of the Big East takes tourney seeds going forward!

1.  How great would it to be a 2/3 seed in the Zags' regional?

2.  If the Zags ended up against a Minn or Illini in the 8/9 seed in a second-round game, I would absolutely take the points and the B10 team.

Am very sorry to say but we all know here, that MSU is better, and should be ranked ahead of us.  We needed the home court to barely squeak by them, and then on the road we got annihilated by them.

Though I do remind myself that our team are essentially freshmen, and that the tide should change in a year, fully.

We split the season series with MSU.  We are tied with them in the Big Ten standings.  We have a better overall record than them.  It's perfectly logical that we are ranked higher.

Head-to-head is one data point for evaluating two teams, but not the only one.  Sometimes you can just match up poorly with a team.  MSU is a tricky matchup for us with their two big guys, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they've been a better team overall this season.

We've got a shot at a 1 seed with wins @PUR, IND and then a win in the BTT.  Even if we lose the championship game, I think at 27-6 and the pedigree of the Big Ten, we'd at least be in consideration.

based on how we do polls. But I doubt anyone seriously believes Gonzaga is the best team in the country and I know their record wouldn't be so shiny of they played in the Big Ten (or Big East or ACC for that matter). So enjoy it while it last Zags

My problem with the polls is Georgetown getting multiple first place votes in the AP and the coaches the 3 teams receiving first place votes were Gonzaga(OK), Kansas(what) and Louisville (what what what!)
