Michigan basketball vs Ohio Open Thread [Come on back if you want]

Submitted by San Diego Mick on

Okay folks, the time is almost here, big game, big opportunity to make a statement.

BEAT ohio!!!!

Edit: Party moves to the other thread: Michigan basketball vs Ohio Open Thread (2nd half). I'll open this one up again after the game finishes, I just can't follow both at this pace on my own. JGB.

Apologies for any problems this caused. Like I said, I just couldn't do both at the same time. Comments back on about twelve minutes after being disrupted.

is there any doubt now, that OSU's spurn is in Burke's head ? This BY FAR is the worst hes ever played.   air ball ?  wtf

This is what I was afraid of; they claw their way back, and once they get the tie, they start taking dumb shots that got them into the hole in the first place and Ohio rolls out to a big lead once again.

because I expected to lose a tough road game against one of these amazing big ten opponents.  But fer god sakes these refs need to call fouls equally for both sides.  We can win a 5 on 5 game, we can't win a 5 on 7.

I thought the reffing was actually fairly consistent (for the first game I've watched when playing OSU). It was a physical game and both teams got lucky on a few fouls that helped them out. As far as basketball games go I really can't complain about the reffing this game although not counting Trey's shot at the end really hurt a bit.

It was okay, but I did get pissed on a couple calls:

  • When THJ got smashed/knocked completely to the ground, no call (but they did give M the inbound play on an out of bounds ball)
  • When Burke was pulling up for a shot that he made, and the refs called it on the floor even though he was in a shooting motion

If Burke makes that 2 and then the and one, it's a tie game, we go into OT with all the momentum, and it could've been a different story.

You mention the physicality of the game, and I agree, the refs let a lot of contact happen for both sides and were consistent there, until the end of the game.  The refs suddenly started calling ticky tack fouls.

None of this is an excuse, or an attempt to validate our ridiculously bad play in the first half.  Just a few thoughts I had about the refs.

I'm glad to see us at least dig ourselves out of a hole. The past few years I think that's something we've been good at and I was wondering if it would still be there with a lot of new players. Hopefully next time it happens it also comes with a win.
