i refuse to even consider this a possibility
Michigan Basketball vs. Northwestern Open Thread
I started a thread a minute after you just did. Sorry Mods, can you delete mine please.
It was just a minute. Takes that long to type it up.
Edit: might need a little explanation with the posts already in there, but as someone suggested to e once, you could just edit it and turn it into a Fiesta Bowl open thread. We're going to need it later anyway.
I will try and do that in the future, I was just to into the M BBall game.
It's a road game. *shrug*
The first four minutes?
Go Blue and let's start well and end well, game and season for that matter.
Go Blue! Road to 40-0 continues tonight!
Stream for those who can't be bothered to use the googles.
Hardaway starting, hopefully he sees some reduced minutes.
That better be about as close as Bacari gets to a stuffed beaver.
Bacari Alexander says: TEAR 'EM UP!
I like coca cola with my Bacari.
Does Bacari drink rum when thinking this stuff up? lmao
I absolutely loved Bacari Alexander's talk to the guys before the game.
I love Bacari, but I would have a hard time not laughing at his motovational talks before games.
I think that's part of the idea. You don't want your guys too hyped up, just loose and ready to go.
I'm actually upset that I missed that.
my work comp sucks, but I guess blurry Michigan basketball is better than nothing
looks good so far.
10-0 is a nice way to start a basketball game!
Burke is going to beat Northwestern by himself tonight.
TREY BURKE BEAST MODE
That was an and 1
Maybe on your 7th grade rec team.
This is the BIG TEN!!!! MANBALL!!!!
is good at basketball. This team is so fun too watch. Quick and exciting on the offensive end.
be lightin' it up.
Trey thanks for coming back. I'm going to miss you.
Because of the NBA lottery contract Trey Burke is obviously going to sign after this year, he made more money by coming back than he would have by going out last year. Really, everybody wins here. Better yet, more players might follow his example and not leave Michigan until they are certain first round picks, preferably in the upper half.
Trey Burke looking more like Tim Hardaway Senior.
Burke is a beast!
We might have a National Player of the Year on our hands everyone
Trey "All Day" Burke, "Ice" Trey Burke, one of these has to stick. The kid is so damn special.
WTF Burke is too good
Thanks for coming back this year trey. He is improving his draft status immensley and this team is going to accomplish something special.
This Burke is pretty damn good.
I've got T-Burke-ulosis.
You sir are my hero.
I like M Basketball, duh
Trey is fucking feeling it baby! Taking lessons from Canadian Bacon?
Trey must have worked his ass off this past offseason because he's just light years better. He is in total command.
He put a few videos on youtube chronicling his summer workouts and preparation between his high school graduation and start of last season. They're worth a look. Needless to say, the kid busts his butt.
Does Burke know that he doesn't have to outscore NW by himself? Wow.
Burke is feeling it..had a WIDE OPEN stauskas and he took the 3 himself. love it
I enjoy sports.
Two days make.
Northwestern looks more like a high school team.
OMG a turnover. Unacceptable.
Two turnovers in a row? Bring in Spike!!!!
Geeze Trey with two TOs in a row.
2 turnovers Trey?
Is that the first time all year Burke has turned it over twice in a row? Maybe feeling it a little too much right now.
Canadian bacon baby!
I like this team.
Burke to Stauskas... sweet.
at this game. How sweet do we move the ball around, lovin' it.
It's gotten to the point where when Stauskas hits, I just laugh.
Lots of Michigan fans there tonight, just like when there's a football game at Ryan Field.
How many of our guys played internationally?
Well I know Stauskas did.
I thought he played at St. Marks in Mass. Was his AAU team in Canada?
Fill in the blank:
Caris LaVert looks like a ___________________ when bringing the ball up the court.
My score prediction may be way off. Wow they're looking good tonight! Looking every bit of the #2 team in the nation.
Damn you Tom
about this game so far is how we came out ready to go in a B1G road game, gotta be strong on the road, I figure we go undefeated at home.
NW Band coming out strong with Lady Gaga then Kesha in back to back time-outs
That comment goes so perfectly with your avatar.
It ain't easy being Mitch McGreasy.
During last game Mitch was compared to that lump of shit mike peplowski
Now Hardaway's cooking!
Sometimes I just have to laugh watching what this team does to the opponents.
same spot. TIMMAYYYYY
Death from above indeed
We are straight buckets right now!!!!!
Northwestern is going to be out of time-outs by halftime.
6/6 from 3?? WHAT IS GOING ON
6/6 on 3 point shots. Sweet.
This team can score points in bunches. That is one of the things that the teams of the past were missing. We can go on really quick runs where if you don't watch out, a 5 point lead turns into a 10 turns into a 15.
Set back their recruiting a decade.
And that's saying something.
Taken from the NW live game thread about Trey
"The problem isn't that he's better than any NU player tonight, it's that he's better than any NU player ever."
Hardaway elders showing approval of the young lad.
Missed a 3!
I'm watching on DVR so I'm late but that first Burke miss was a nice Kobe assist.
We have so many great scorers on this team, more than any other team in the nation IMO
Why is the purple under the hoop so dull, while the purple at mid court is bright and shiny?
We should consider ourselves fortunate. The faded look is rather tasteful in comparison to what it could have been. For example:
That would be hard to watch.
I . . . I . . . I can't even look at the NW floor without getting sick. It looks like vomited grape juice. if you have kids, you know what I mean.
Remember when we could never shoot straight in Beilein's first few years, and we wondered just how lethal we'd be if we could have a team that could actually make all those open threes his offense generates? We have our answer and it is beautiful to watch.
THE MAYANS WERE RIGHT
Classic Morgan missed bunny
Man, Stauskas missing a lot...by his standards of course...
they gave him a tech for that?? what horse shit.
Not really, that is gonna get you a T every time, morgan was stupid for doing that
Just refs getting involved and making it about them. Eat the whistle and let them show a little emotion.
Sorry, but you're getting T-d up more often than not when you do that.
hardaway WANTS THAT SPOT
LOSES SNEAKER, HITS THREE MEME MUST BE MADE.
What's with this Hardaway ankle injury? Was it a mutant spider bite?
It was probably a minor thing and they wanted him to be fully ready to go when conference play started.
Northwestern down to 1 time out left. With 4 to go in the 1st.
Hardaway making 3's like its nothing. Stauskus is going to be jealous.
Michigan MF'n Wolverines
That is all
Damn those two road games is going to be tough.
Yes they are.
They sure is.
Is there a hole in the ceiling of Welsh-Ryan Arena? Becuase Hardaway straight making it rain.
Welp, would've been nice to win that "Ermahgerd" shirt, but alas, it was not to be. I'd rather have us shooting lights out from 3 anyway...
Alley oop sighting!
I was hanging out in the fake thread wondering why I was only talking to myself
an alley oop that worked, yay
next time will be a dunk, I promise
How many of you feel silly now for not predicting a 90 pt. game for Michigan (I think I was the only one). I'm an a**, I know!
Now...back to the game!
with 3:26 to go in half, ouch
Chucking 3 mode already NU?
Ankles were broken
just fucking wow, what can't he do on the court, he's so amazing
Has improved so much from last year. Wow
I normally like THJ better taking it to the bucket, but he's got the green light from 3 tonight
huh? What the eff is that call?
Are u kidding me with that 3 second call???
The three-second call is retribution for our phantom first down against South Carolina -- I knows this.
That guy has a Shawn Marion type of shot
51-30 at the half!
I was starting to get worried. I thought we might go into half up by less than 20.
As "Funny" or "Insightful." So I just plussed it. But nice problem to have, no?
If we score a 100 points will Arby's give us free curly fries?
Or do they have Northwestern +20?
3 seconds after he goes in, comes out, passes and then heads right out of the lane? Come on...
We are really really good. I love Coach Alexanders speechs!
I like this team more and more every game. I do LOVE having a great bball team
If you would have told me before the game that they'd be 8-12 from three with 3 of those misses coming from Stauskas I would have l probably would have laughed.
I would have said that Stauskas must then be 8-11
Worst 3-second call in the history of the world? Um yeah.
If he wasn't a basketball coach, I bet he would make an incredible elemetary school assembly speaker. I lost it when he tossed the scraps and walked out of the locker room.
I'm always so disappointed when Stauskas misses. Not so much because we need the points, but I want to see him get up to 60%. Or at least stay above 55% through Big Ten play, even it's not realistic. Kid can shoot.
Team: 8/12 3 Pt
Stauskas: 1/4 3 Pt
It's so damn strange, but I'm not complaining.
19-33 (57.6%) FG percentage.
8-12 (66.7%) from 3-point land.
5-6 (83.3%) on free throws.
20 rebounds total.
I have to say that I like where this one is headed, fellow MGoBloggers.
I am a tad tipsy, admittedly (a couple of beers), but man, this guy on ESPN is pumping U-M up beyond belief...getting excited!
in the country is in fact one of the two best teams in the country is pumping them up beyond belief? Not sure why some MGoBloggers still don't want to believe that this team really is that good.
That really got out of hand.
El Fuego! Been a while.
I come when I'm needed.
Tuber? Uh-uh. Canadian Bacon.
Only missed 4 three pointers in the first half and Nik missed three of them. Weird.
I don't think MGoBlog gives Michigan as much love as ESPN2 just gave them at halftime.
Slurp. Slurp. Slurp.
Loved it though...hope the nation is watching.
I'm at the game. This team is even better live than on TV. Trey Burke is an absolute freak. And McGary looks way bigger in person
+1 for avatar. I always enjoyed calling people to tell them where I was going through when I was driving to or from Ann Arbor and passed that sign on 94.
Wow the top part of the stands looked alll maize
Can we count that one as a pass?
And the bludgeoning resumes.
WTF are you doing? He's KILLING his %!! What is he now down to like 53%?
Having too much fun watching this game.
Save some of this for the rest of the season, boys. Please.
WOW! HAHA. It looked like GR3 was wanting to pass it, but noticed his teammate let up and didn't follow him to the hole. Might as well just put it up, oh it goes in because I'm good lol.
more of the same
At this point I just feel bad for Northwestern.
what Horford's status is? Is he due back soon? Another big in line-up just makes it so much more M Domination!
Minnesota and Indiana are the only two teams that worry me.
...and I can safely say there are more M than NW fans. Although it is till break for NE students.
"The NCAA Tournament is a Dumb Tournament for Jerks Anyways"
--Bring Your Champions, They're Our Meat
Stauskas has 4 of our 5 missed three pointers?
Stauskas! You're killing your percentage tonight bro!
I know he's on our team, but that was hilarious.
You reach, Trey teaches.
Burke don't scare me like that
the lead is under 20
Nice. Jinxed it
Stroke it, baby!
DUNK THAT THING
I would have smashed that down, lil' Big Dog
It looked like he wasn't anticipating the pass back and just laid it in for the points.
the refs keep calling some weird BS on us
This is going to end up a 90-70 game. Seems really high. Especially for the big ten
Arizona down 21-7.
I SEE YOU TIM!
I SEE YOU JORDAN!
Thank you, Tim
ONE OF THOSE ALLEY OOPS THINGS IVE READ OF...how glorious
weapons...we has them
This is a layup line. This reminds me of the old 11 Man Fastbreak drill.
It sure is fun to watch Michigan basketball
So...do we get to 90 before we empty the bench?
I would love to see the offense go through McGary late in this game to get him intigrated into the offense more...
This game makes the pain of losing the Outback Bowl a little easier to bare.
Man a few years ago I would have never thought Michigan basketball could make me this happy.
We look like we're getting much better at the alley oop, sweet baby!
Tim Hardaways dad seems more like a fan this year than past years. Past years he seemed like a scout.
It must be da hat.
wasn't he actually a scout at that point?
Yeah and he might still be, but he just seems so much more relaxed now. He actually seems like a dad and like a fan.
They make me so happy!
Can't wait for the nuts to get the same treatment as the Cats are tonight.
Opening kickoff... Good bye!
Do we get free Dominos if we hit 100?
There ya go Nik!
Burke is so smooth.
I'm curious as to why Burke is still in. Game is in the bag. Why risk an injury to your star player?
Nice to see Nik hit that 3. I'm sure that'll help his confidence as its always better to end on a make.
the announcers for all these games are just marveling at our beloved team.
I asked this earlier in the thread, who do you try and focus on stopping, talk about having to pick your poison.
I can't wait to beat down ohio in C'Bus and their anemic shooting team, we'll see how good Matta is at coaching when he doesn't have a stacked line-up like in past years.
No 100 for us...oh well.
Obligatory McLimans 3 point chuck.
Should I feel disappointed when they only lead by 29 after 39 minutes?
Just got an idea for a First-World Problems meme.
We went to OT twice with NW last year. Are we better? Yeah, we're a lot better.
Note that last year's NW team would beat this one by 10-15.
All I can say is WoW...
SLURPPP on ESPN2...
If you are looking for improvement over an obviously dominant performance, here are two:
1. Did not look great defensively inside. Lotsa good big men in the conference this year. Hopefully, Horford is back sometime mid-month.
2. Gave up a lot of open threes. Almost all of which after we were up 20+, but do not want to do that against, say, Illinois.
But, yeah -- great start and just came out of the blocks on fire.
On the replay shot of Stauskus' first 3 point make, there's a fan in purple right behind the basket cheering. LOL! That must be poster Wendyk5 who said the family had to wear purple if they wanted those seats.
We couldn't do it. They actually gave us a stack of purple shirts to put on, and we couldn't do it. So there we were, surrounded by good samaritans - some genuine NW fans, some Michigan fans - all wearing purple. But we did refrain from cheering for Michigan. I instructed everyone not to, and they abided. Hardest thing we ever had to do. Confession: I clapped, but i kept my hands low so no one would see them.
And they're going to have to go back further than the '85-86 team.
Michigan came out with intensity on both ends of the floor and scored a knockout after 5 minutes. I would like to see better defense for 40 minutes (I am greedy...I know) but, damn, they look impressive. Trey Burke is the best player in the country and this team is flat out loaded. I look forward to watching every game and wouldn't miss a second of it. I don't want to start looking ahead to Jan. 13th just yet but........
... but is "that what he said?"
Was a great showing by the maize and blue on the court and in the stands. Gotta love that it was easily 2/3 rd Michigan fans. Gotta say, one of my favorite moments was Hardaway hyping up the crowd during one of the TV timeouts! Anybody else at the game catch that? After close wins and loses the last few years at Welsh Ryan, a blow out was much easier on my nerves! Hail!
Interesting arrow placement there.
Great stretch comeback by AZ as CO collapses. Then with the game tied, CO has a buzzer-beater disallowed. I don't think I've ever seen one closer. Home cooking? Heading to OT...
Never said Beilein wasn't a great coach; said that saying there were numerous data points that show he's a better coach than Izzo is silly, because Izzo has accomplished far more. One can be great and not the best.
Using "all the players programs didn't want" as the reason for his greatness when they took the next step this season due to a lot of players teams DID want in his highest ranking recruiting class is a poor example.
But no, beating up on a horrid Northwestern team doesn't make one great. That's what should be expected. In the actual example, no one would ever say "Izzo's team just housed Northwestern; he's a great coach." You reach great status when doing that isn't a big deal. Since you're obviously a little slow, let me spell it out for you- the fact that Northwestern sucks doesn't make the team or the coach not great; it just doesn't really prove it either. That will come when playing Indiana, Ohio State, Minnesota, and yes, MSU. It'll also be proven when we actually win more than a game in the Tournament this year. Beilein didn't become a better coach since last year; he just has better players.
But thanks for playing; it was kinda cute. Now off to bed for you to sleep it off.
Says the guy who took three posts over a half hour to make his point. (And still in denial that you wrote more than i did last time). My "basketball IQ" may be low, but at least I'm smart enough to know how to use an edit function.
This reaction, you're either drunk, or emotionally unstable, or both. That you're still butthurt about being pantsed in an argument days ago says you need to get a grip. I didn't really give you a second thought after it. You've obviously been carrying some serious issues for awhile now since that's all you can think about. Seek professional help. It's not too late.
You're just the guy telling me I can't say the tooth fairy doesn't exist, because "that's just like your opinion, man."
And your "responded in three points" claim still shows you're not bright enough to use the "edit" function (which is bullshit because it took you over 30 minutes to formulate your thoughts...either you're really slow, or so worked up you're frothing at the mouth). You remember because that's all you've thought about for days; how M-Wolverine made me look silly on the Internet. Because that's all you've posted about for days.
Being able to recognize even our rival's accomplishments just makes one rational. You should try it some time rather than basing everything on how you "feel." But you have trouble controlling your emotions, don't you?
Maybe you should go back to posting once every 4 weeks about how you don't like the Spartans or how much basketball you think you know. Save yourself the embarrassment.
Since it's all you care about. I just think you're kinda funny. In denial. And unable to use the brevity you claim is so valuable yourself. Took two seconds to click on you to see all you've posted for a week is this exact same thing. Might want to proof read what you bold there though*. Because I don't care what assholes like you think of me. I just think it's funny to get under your thin skin.
*Well, if nothing else came of this, I taught you how to use the edit function. Though it is funny a guy who admits he's trolling the RCMB because of his Michigan State obsession is calling other people trolls. Did a Spartan steal your bike or something? Grow up.
I just caught in your edit...you're on drugs right now? Never mind, I understand your posts now.
Don't go through life fat, stupid, and lazy.
And we all know you just freak out if I have the last word so that's all you're doing.
But if you want to put any money on that "undefeated" in March thing, let me know. In THIS Big Ten? (Of course, you still miss the fact that the goal is to be undefeated in games played in April. If that happens you might have an argument).
Agree that Beilein is a great coach? I think you both would agree. Agree that Izzo has a great resume? I think you both would agree. The differences? Let's wait and see those hashed out rationally on the next "Beilein > Izzo" or "Beilein < Izzo so far" threads. Keeping this going isn't doing anything to help that discussion.
Sorry Dad. ;-)
You figured out how to use the edit function.
Wow. Colorado got that buzzer beater off for sure. Home cooking
