Michigan Basketball vs. Central Open Thread
Yeah that sucks but it won't matter. Hopefully he's back soon.
And to think LeVert would be redshirting.
Dunk you very much, Little Big Dog!
I don't know if anyone has another, but the stream here:
http://www.thefirstrow.eu/watch/160845/1/watch-central-michigan-vs-2-mic...
Is not up yet. I expect it will be eventually though.
*edit* Up now.
Live Stream?
Is #34 for CMU wearing running shoes and ankle socks??! Lol
Holy shit this is like watching tennis.
But the Trey Burke show is on instead...
Would have liked them to go big without hardaway. I like Levert dont get me wrong, but the size of Burke, Stauskas, GR3, McGary, and Morgan is an all around tough matchup. That is NBA size or close to it.
IS GOOD
I think you had an extra "o". It's G-O-D.
that well but is CMU any good, I thought they were gonna take a step back with coaching change and losing the other Trey
Meh is the most accurate description I can provide.
Who would of thought Akunne would of shot that????
/s
Would have, would have!
I hate when I see that
I wish I would of known that pretentious grammar rule.
/sss
Just take your lumps. Don't try to turn being smart into a bad thing, especially around here.
Pretentious grammar rule is a bit of an oxymoron (oxymoran?!). Knowing how to properly utilize the language we speak is...pretentious?
It's not pretentious - it's correct. There's a difference.
You would have thunk it.
lol, first time Akkune touches the ball he jacks up a three.
Eso, why do you insist on chucking?
in street clothes, yet we still dominate
and
Akunne with an assist, wow
Man, I'm happy Trey decided to stick around for one more year, but with the skills he's exhibiting tonight I don't think he has much to gain with another year in college. Apart from maybe some height concerns, he looks like an NBA pg right now. I thought he might have been a bit overrated early in the year along with the rest of the team, but he's probably the best pg in college basketball at this point.
till all the guys are healthy, what a deep and impactful squad we will be.
How in the world did Eso pass him in the rotation????
You're not going to get a lot of PT when your only real contribution is shooting and you're hitting 33% from the field and 27% from 3.
What about Spike???
But im sure theyre largely associated with needles an guns...
Akunne lol
for a guy who is supposed to be able to shoot, he sure misses a lot
and
Akunne jacks up another brick
and
Trey using glass old school style
Euro step layups, fadeaways, off the glass shots, etc etc. Burke has an NBA skillset.
Dear Coach B,
Please let this be the last time we see Eso in the first half of a game where Michigan up by less than 30.
Thanks,
Pretty Much Everyone
lavert's game, he gonna be special, just watch
I know you all would like to see Akunne make all his 3s. I can't help but laugh every time he misses. In the nicest way he is my least favorite Wolverine.
Lavert is the real deal. He is going to be a lot of fun to watch.
and all around game display
Burke will start for an NBA team next year. Amazing how he's taken his game to another level since last year. Just seems so easy for him
Hopefully he gets drafted by the Lakers. Steve Nash obviously won't be there long and they have a need for a PG (sorry Darius Morris).
Two major gripes:
1)Defense. Started off very poorly but been much better second part of this half.
2)3 point shooting. Not a great percentage, and if you're going to shoot 14 in a half, Stauskas has to have a couple
Levert. My man.
The decision to not redshirt LeVert looks better and better everyday. He'd be good enough to start on most Michigan teams.
No Wes Unseld reference on that sick outlet pass (after a blcok/rebound)?!
Listening to a cmu feed. Announcers are bitching about lack of fouls on Michigan. This is painful to hear. These guys are horrible.
Are there tears yet?
When they're just putting out a workman-like performance and are pushing a 20 point first half lead.
The way Levert is playing, just this freshman class could possibly make the tourney if they were the starters.
I bet you they could too.
WOW. That was quite the move by GRIII
Robinson just makes it look so easy. He makes himself available and finishes. Always where he needs to be.
Lavert, wait till he matures, man he's got some game
Looking pretty dashing this evening.
Lavert looking serious out here. I'm impressed with his attributes.
Is looking real good on those cuts and I think they've hit him almost every time.
must be so tough for him to not be able to play
I hadn't been paying attention to CMU this season either. For anyone interested, CMU is 7-5 with double digit losses to Iowa, Utah, Charlotte, Bradley and Nebraska. Most impressive win, if you can call it that, is a 92-80 win over Texas State.
No three-point attempts out of Stauskas in the first half is an interesting stat. Guys look good tonight, LeVert obviously making a statement. Trey has 17 points and that is something I would not have known if not keeping track i.e. a quiet 17! Wish GRIII would hit more of those open 3-point looks he gets.
Are they denying him the chances? I missed half of the first half.
As I wrote below I have been away from the game for a couple brief times but I did notice I think he "passed up" on two open looks. Otherwise, I really don't think it's a case of them denying but more a fluke that one of the nation's best shooters hasn't really needed to launch from behind the arc added to the fact a few of his teammates have a fairly hot hand.
I must admit I've been away from the tv for a couple brief periods so I admit if what I wrote is pretty assinine! But even saying that and even having seen much of the scoring he's done it just seems "quieter" compared to usual outbursts (I would have pegged him for 11-12 points).
just goes to show you how many good shooters we have, I think we may be one of if not the best shooting teams in the country, especially from a multiple # of shooters standpoint
Enjoy Burke while he is here. A man amongst boys. Other than Akune being Akune and Staukas being sleepy, it's hard to find much to complain about in the first half. McGary got away with a foul or two, but still cant remember a UM team that didn't turn the ball over, or foul as little as this team does.
We're on our way towards being good regularly, but this combo of "veteran" and young talent might not come to fruition for awhile again.
100 pts tonight, we'll at least get close
The more I watch this team, the more it reminds me of how much I missed us being a top ten team every year, or most years.
Obvious caveat that we're playing CMU..... but I watched Duke (#1) and Louisville (#3) today and I feel we're on a different level than those teams. They're both probably better defensively but overall they don't really compare. Am I a huge homer for thinking this?
I don't know. We're playing great right now but I don't think we'll know how truly good we are until we've faced some top ten teams. Duke and Louisville have played them so far, we won't for a few more weeks.
Well if you think those teams are better defensively, how can you say Michigan is on a different level? That doesnt make sense. Michigan is very, very good, but they are not head and shoulders better than Duke or Lville.
Because we're FAR superior offensively. And we're not a poor defensive team, just not elite
But I say run with it.
there we go.
Sweet
Morning Nik! Forcast.......Rain!
I'm ready for the Big Ten to start. Clubbing baby seals is getting a bit boring.
Wasn't too long ago we were losing to baby seals.
Canadian Bacon Baby!
Molson Ice!
And Stauskas with 3 treys to start the 2nd half. So many weapons
I love watching GRIII dunk
This team is special when they play unselfish.
GR3 has like 9 dunks.
Seriously - it's easy to get tons of assists when your teammates can do that.
That baseline drive play is sweet
Funny that Stauskus has looked lazy (which he has), he has 6 rebounds.
When he says even though guys miss a shot, they still keep their defensive hat on and there were 2 examples recently.
Those are the things I love about a Beilein coached team
so fucking smooth
I once shot 3s that well...in NBA 2k12.
Gosh Stauskas makes it look like a video game
Stauskas is such a crazy shooter. Ive just started laughing to myself when he hoists them.
the dude is a freshman, folks.
I actually like the make-up of these 5 frosh over the Fab Five guys
You mean other than the "not taking cash" part?
I can watch Stauskus shooting 3's all day.
whatever you guys do, don't go to fox sports. Hockey team looks turrible tonight.
I love this team. It's too hard to pick a favorite.
Defense has been a little questionable so far this half...
Akunne should try golf or something.
How long does a golf game take if you just take a swing at the ball as soon as you get close to it?
Why is Akunne playing?
If he gets tired or hurt.
(In a basketball sense)
Nice pass by Eso
Next you'll tell me the pass was from a UFO to Bigfoot's ghost.
McGary is like a 6'10" Zac Efron.
I'm doing a shot every time Eso throws one up. Love this guy.
Stauskas is on fire like in NBA Jams baby!
That will be the only stuff against him this year!
I just laughed out loud. Poor MITCH!
????
Yep. I'm still laughing.
Should have asked for those George Costanza training shoes for Christmas.
Good grief. What does he have to jump 15 inches to dunk?
that was, uh....funyy buddy, you'll get'em next time, lolz
It might just be me, but the rebounding ability is such a great plus for this team. We miss on the first attempt, we can get it back and try again. Our opponent misses, and we take it and try and to do some damage. The opportunistic streak of this team never ceases to be thrilling.
The potential to rebound is there and it has applied to most games this year. In this game however we are currently getting outrebounded 30-23 against CMU. Not impressed with the rebounding or defense today to say the least.
Players cost him millions...
or was one.
Eso doing his best LeBron James impression...minus the skill. Its sad at this point to watch him play
Akunne is a lot like I was in JV basketball. Sure we didn't play much, but we were going to make sure you remembered us when we did. Chucking up bombs all day.
Does McGary look bigger and not in the good way?
I actually thought he dropped a few LBS.
That's not what she said.
He blows a layup
Does this commentary seem to just be getting worse throughout the broadcast (if that was even possible)?
Despite his Spartan roots, I've always thought Kelser was a pretty good announcer.
I like Greg. Its awkward hearing him with his partner in crime George...
Was that Morgan or Hakeem?
Morgan has one of those at least once every game. It don't even think twice about it now since I know it will happen.
He used to do it like 3 times a game last year. He's gotten a lot better.
Man, this team is fun to watch. Is it March yet?
Can't disagree. But if we can drop 80 consistently... Hard to see a lot of teams hanging with that.
I guess now we have a handle for the value that Hardaway brings to the game as far as defensive intensity is concerned. I hope he's back next week.
They played about as well as they could expect.
Cause Michigan's defense looked bad
Couldn't watch the game, but how did we get out-rebounded so badly?
Our effort on the glass wasn't the best, but I think we did miss Hardaway (who's actually an excellent defensive rebounder) and Horford.
That was a horrendous defensive performance in the second half.
kind of a frustrating game to watch, i felt as though central was hitting everything they jacked up, not sure if others felt that way. still, 13-0 is great, on to B1G play! great to see stauskas go off yet again, hope to see hardaway back soon.
The performance by the D wasn't great, but I'm not too concerned by it. No Hardaway, I felt like we had a lot more minutes off the bench than usual over the entire game, and it looked like we were on cruise control for the 2nd half. It wasn't a great performance, but I don't think it's really indicitive of what the team will play like against stiffer competition.
The most amazing stat of the night, THREE TURNOVERS TOTAL
Every shot that Michigan missed, Central would push the ball and attack the basket from the right. Michigan never had an answer for it. Not sure why no adjustments were made. I think Beilein called time out once.
That also led to a few offensive rebounds for them as well.
The injuries are hurting bench production, 3/14 from the field is not good enough. Giving up all those points is a plus, Coach will have that to point to as he makes them bust ass. I'm ready to see this team against good teams on the road it should be a fun ride.
Burke makes Michigan a legit #2 team. Without him they are #15 to #20 type team.
With Burke being "on" UM can beat anyone. With him off, and the interior defense not playing better (Horford may be the answer) - this team could lose to any top 25 team.
Free throw shooting bothers me, we were 64% I think (7 of 11
). Not a big deal because we weren't at the line a lot, but I've seen a few games with atrocious percentages. It will cost us a close game against a good team.
a little closer than i would have liked, but a win is a win. i'm happy that my expectations are now at the level of blowouts. 13-0 is the best start UM basketball has had in a long time, and you can't ask for much more than that. when this team is on, it looks like a legit final four contender. bring on conference play.
Best start since 1985 according to BTN
Had to run the sister in law to DTW and swung by with her dad to see if we could get into the game. Spur of the moment for sure. I wasn't expecting to find something for 10 bucks but 80 for one in the nosebleeds? Not happening. I was pretty shocked at the market for this game. Great for the school its sold out but damn, scratch any games when I'm back home.
I bought my student ticket for 10 bucks, it was selling for 200 on StubHub. Crazy. Iowa shouldn't be quite as bad since there's less in state Iowa fans, but its crazy to think that I was going to games with my dad in the Amaker era for chump change
It's too bad because the arena was nowhere near full.
And then tried to gouge hoping them being a hot ticket would scam some people. I mean, $80 buys you 16 tickets. So all you have to do is sell one to make you money back. A pair is doubling your profit. Then you can eat the rest. If the Athletic Department actually cared about empty seats they could confirm group seats were actually being bought by, you know, groups, rather than an individual. But as long as they're sold they don't care. Only think that will change is that only the Binghamptons of the world will have $5 seats.
