According to the CBS RPI, Michigan is #16.

Other ranked Big Ten teams (team - AP / Coaches / CBS RPI)"

  • osu - 3 / 3 / 4
  • msu - 11 / 12 / 3
  • wisconsin - 21 / 22 / 30
  • MICHIGAN - 22 / 25 / 16
  • indiana - 23 / 23 / 18

So according to the polls, UM is either the 4th or 5th best team in the conference, but per the RPI, Michigan is the 3rd best team.  I always liked that RPI....

after dishing out a whoopin to Wisconsin (complete with legitimate garbage time minutes) and just beating Indiana.  Whateva.

This was the 4th week in a row that we won our first game and got me thinking we could move up nicely in the polls and then lost our second game.  It's the 5th week in a row that we went 1-1.  Thankfully next week looks like a nice chance to go 2-0.

...still seems about right for this team, at least until Hardaway breaks out of his shooting funk.  If Hardaway can catch fire like he did last year and lead us on a multi-game winning streak to close out the year, I think we'll be worthy of a 15-20 ranking.

Rankings are meaningless, but that said, this makes me angry.  Michigan has dropped slightly several weeks in a row with their only losses being road defeats against primarily ranked opponents.  Win at Purdue, lose at OSU - drop.  Win against Indiana, lose at MSU - drop.  I don't see similar treatment of teams like MSU - when we beat them at Crisler they didn't fall off the 9 spot they were in, and even with a loss to an unranked NW team they fell a total of one spot?!

Silliness.

Well, to be fair, Michigan went from 23 in the AP last week to 22 this week, so they actually went up 1 spot.  The coaches poll, on the other hand, so Michigan go from 22 to 25, and Indiana (who Michigan beat) go from 20 to 23.

I agree with the above, though.  The way guys like Hardaway (especially) and Metrics are playing right now, they're not as good as they should be.  Timmy goes 4-10 instead of 1-10 yesterday and it's suddenly a very different ball game.

I would say that #3-5 in the conference sounds about right.  Also, keep in mind that we have the easier portion of our schedule coming up, which may bump us up in the AP and Coaches poll.

Aside from OSU (at home), we don't really play any elite Big Ten talent.  In terms of middling Big Ten talent, we face Purdue (at home) and Illinois twice.
