Nothing too surprising. I'm glad Stu was recognized for his defense - I feel so many people overlook that part of his game. He's a pretty good off-the-ball defender.
I also love that we have a "Charge Award." I'm sure Sparty loathes that.

How do you have all those awards and no freshman of the year? Show THJ some love!

They probably could have given Darius Morris the Most Improved Player award also, but I like that Jordan Morgan got it. I don't think we, as fans, ever got to see what Morgan looked like in practice last year before his injury, surgery, and red-shirt.

Yeah I agree about the recognition for Stu. Glad to see Novak get the recognition he deserves as well. I could see either Morgan or even Darius getting the Rudy Tomjanovich Most Improved Player Award, both had big years and showed improvement throughout the season; especially from last season to this season.

Indeed!

the Charge Award? please
also would be good if sixth man and iron man had names with them, but perhaps they need sponsorship. any ideas?

The VISA Charge Award.

With Zack winning the Charge Award in its first two years, I wouldn't mind it being named in his honor assuming he takes it home for the third consecutive year as a Senior.
Zack Novak Charge Award (or Take One For The Team Award, or Sacrifice Your Body Award, etc.). He needs to have something named after him before he leaves here.

I feel like hardaway should have won SOMETHING. With that said, looking at the specific awards I can't think of anything to really give him. If there was a freshman award it would be all his....

I would like to nominate Tim Hardaway Jr. for the inaugural Stuntin' Like My Daddy Award.

How bad is it that David Merritt, a former captain, was clueless as to who Steve Grote was when Matt Sheppard mentioned his name during a broadcast earlier this year?
April 12th, 2011 at 11:35 AM ^
Even more embarrassing for Mr. Merritt since he was the Steve Grote Hustle Award winner in 2009. Hopefully, he was just having some fun with Matt.

Nice to see that we have one of the "named" award honorees on our staff in Travis Conlan.

Long story short, Tim Hardaway Jr. has been invited to the USA U19 World Championship tryouts, scheduled for June 16-23 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Should Hardaway make the team, the U19 World Championships are from June 30-July 10 in Riga, Lativa. Former Georgia Tech coach Paul Hewitt will coach the team and will be assisted by St. Mary’s head coach Randy Bennett and Jacksonville University coach Cliff Warren.

Although Hardaway didn't win any of the awards, he was recognized at the banquet:
Michigan coach John Beilein also told the crowd that freshman guard Tim Hardaway Jr. has been invited to the USA U19 World Championship tryouts, scheduled for June 16-23 in Colorado Springs, Colo.

...relevant announcements from the banquet:
- Per MGoBlue.com: Novak was named to the Capital One Academic All-District IV first team for the second consecutive season and was also named to CBS Sports Seth Davis' All-Glue Team.
- Per Griffin Hickman tweet (he provided a tweetstream throughout the event): griffinhickman Hardaway recognized for invite to USA U-19 tryout. Also, for being named #BigTen Freshman of Week a lot along with "some freshman in Ohio."
Hardaway doesnt need an award
Not when Lupe Fiasco wears your jersey on stage. That is award enough
