Michigan Baseball. Anybody Watch it?

Submitted by the_big_house 500th on
As a Michigan fan I love to support all the university's teams but for some reason and I don't care if it's MLB or NCAA I can not watch baseball. Next to golf it's the most boring sport on TV. So with that being said would I fall into the category of "fair weather" if I don't watch Michigan's baseball team play when they are on? And does anybody else here watch Michigan's team too? Lacrosse catches my attention though because its speed and play are very similar to hockey.

I don't watch Michigan's woman's basketball or soccer and I in no way consider myself a fair weather fan. That being said Baseball is the second greatest sport, right behind football.

College game is getting better. Game times are consistently getting down around 2:15-2:45 if it's a non-televised game. UM had a game against IPFW that was just 2:10 in our opening home series. Unfortunately, most games shown on ESPN or CBS College Sports are on Sunday which means you see the worst pitchers and some ugly football-like scores, lasting nearly 3:30. They turn off more potential college baseball fans than anything else. Michigan is done with televised games for the rest of the year. With only 8 weeks of the regular season, the BTN shows each of the 10 teams once and configure the rest around that. Michigan didn't get the chance for multiple games this year. I think it's a great experience taking in the game at the stadium if you get the chance. While the game would be much nicer with alcohol sales, it's relaxing but moves pretty quick for those in the stands.

I agree about the fact that being there in person is better, because there's plenty that's going on that the camera's not always capturing (because the default focus is on the battery, that is the Pitcher and Catcher.) There's something going on on every pitch, you just have to know to look for it.

I'd rather listen to baseball on the radio while doing other things than sit down to watch a game. As far as going to games, I probably fall into the "fair weather" category because I don't relish sitting in the stands to watch baseball on cold or even cool days in the spring. Which is one of the reasons I've managed to attend only one Michigan baseball game. Took my daughter to a game two years ago when she was nine. This happened to be one of those Sunday games, but we thoroughly enjoyed it. Michigan beat that school up to the northwest 27-6. Numerous U-M home runs, so souvenir baseballs were being tossed into the stands just about every inning. My daughter happened to retrieve a foul ball and was then able to get it signed by the entire team during the postgame autograph session.

They even let Katzman bat, and he got a hit and scored a run, iirc. We're a baseball-loving family. Of course, I was raised in a baseball-loving family, so some of it is just what you are used to. Part of it is whether or not you enjoy some of the mathematical/statistical/probability aspects and the slow pace or whether you find those annoying. Plus, the Fish is small enough that you get to know all the events staff and athletic department interns and even some of the other fans if you go regularly.
