No help on bars (the closest I've ever been to there is Cairo), but it is awesome that we have alumni and alumnae literally everywhere.

Looking for Michigan bar in Dubai myself

Go to Mishs, take a left at the goat hers and proceed 100m. You will see a Bedouin tent. If you see the camel you have gone too far.

Ha! I got a laugh out of this. That' said, I think Abu Dhabi is littered with palaces, Ferrari's, Lamborghini's, etc. Pretty wealthy oil city. But to the OP, good luck, I'd imagine you'd have a hard time find a place that showed American sports, let alone a college football game. Then again, this is Michigan fergodsakes, so we probably have an alumni bar there.
Can you stream Espn3.com from Abu Dhabi?

the game is on armed forces network

One can watch a game anywhere in the world because our troops are everywhere.

For a U-M bar in Dubai, try contacting Alexandre. He is the super moderater of the U-M College Confidential forum. He is located in Dubai.

Original Wings and Rings in DIFC, Dubai. In Abu Dhabi there aren't as many active alumni, just myself and an occiasional newbie, or passerbyer. Or maybe tens of dozens of others, according to the alumni database.

If ESPN3 doesn't work, there is a livestream of the game that should work here: http://www.firstrowsports.tv/watch/86073/1/watch-michigan-vs-michigan-st.html

I've always wanted to go there. Beautiful part of Deutschland.

Highly recommend it. Am sitting out on a deck on a little chalet looking out at the Alps, having a good German beer, and just dialed up Frank Beckmann.
Not bad, but sure would love to be tailgaiting with the maize and blue faithful in front of Little Brother's cute little stadium right about now.

I thought the UAE was a Muslim country and therefore alcohol free. No?
October 15th, 2011 at 9:04 AM ^
Did someone say free alcohol?
October 15th, 2011 at 10:18 AM ^
You can't have it in your home... But everyone does. They smuggle it in all the time to their homes.

So all the hotels have bars. They are pretty fun.
October 15th, 2011 at 10:50 AM ^
In majority-Muslim countries--even most officially Islamic ones. Guess Saudi and Afghanistan are exceptions, but basically everywhere else it's readily available and not even thought of as a big of a deal by most young people.
October 15th, 2011 at 8:28 AM ^
i'm with everyone else... are there bars?
October 15th, 2011 at 8:40 AM ^
October 15th, 2011 at 9:46 AM ^
There is, but they are mostly in the hotels and other areas that are solely there for foreigners. You can imagine that open container laws are insane, but yeah you can get all the alcohol you want if you go to a nice hotel, and I imagine are willing to pay a healthy mark-up on it.

I have had many a drunk in ex pat bars in UAE. It's been quite a while so I can't tell you where (and def. not one that would have the game on). Most were associated with hotels.
October 15th, 2011 at 9:11 AM ^
Never been there, but is supposed to be a decent sports bar with mostly ex-pats.

If you're lucky enough to still have access to your UMICH kerberos account you can use Michigan's VPN network to get espn3 which has today's game on it.
October 15th, 2011 at 9:51 AM ^
Really? How do you access espn3? I am connected to Michigan's VPN network (using the Cisco off-campus profile), but espn3 still asks me for a cable provider. What am I missing?

I feel like it should be a mission in WoW.
"Slay 10 Umber Hulks and take their skins to my lord in Ironforge. He will craft the item you require to attain your goal. But be warned, the latter part of your task shall surely claim your humanity, and possibly your life."

I lived in Dubai for quite a few years and could never find a place that would show games. Usually had to watch a stream
October 15th, 2011 at 11:27 AM ^
Can't help with Abu Dhabi, but I know there's a UM Bar in Djibouti.
October 15th, 2011 at 12:32 PM ^
Much to see in that place. Pure Abu Dhabi and probably a few Wolverines there on any given day.
October 15th, 2011 at 1:24 PM ^
Ugh. That is an ominous development.
