Michigan back in the running for Stefon Diggs?

Submitted by WilliSC48 on

Sorry if already posted. I didn't see anything on the first page of the forum. Latest tweet by Scout recruiting analyst Eugene Hankerson:

Obviously, Stefon Diggs would be a great get for the 2012 class.

said on the recruiting round up this monday that Michigan cooled off him because of his poor grades. If he gets his stuff together we'll have a great shot, especially with former teammate blake countess enrolling at MIchigan

It'd be an amazing pickup (Edited out the rest of my first part because the previous two posters said the same thing)

Over on the Blue Board at 24/7 they also seem to think there's legal issues as well, but no legitimate sources, so it's all speculative.

I'm not too sure on Diggs. Obviously he'd be a great talent to have and if in most cases I'd be thrilled if we were back in it for a guy like him. But last I heard, he had academic issues, and some people on Scout are mentioning a situation where he assaulted some woman. I haven't seen it denied by anyone and if true, I'm not really sure I'd want someone like that at Michigan. We'll see though. If he can get all the extra curricular stuff worked out, he'd be a huge get.

I'm mentioning something I heard. I never said it's true. Someone else mentioned it too, so it might have legs to it, it might not. If it's true, this is something serious and it needs to be mentioned. But stop acting like you fucking own this place. People speculate and talk about what they hear from other places. That's what happens on message boards and blogs.

You are a douche. You won't even comprehend why but I will tell you anyway. Spreading rumors about high school kids is pretty lame and I assure you this is not the place for it. These kids do read these boards so keep that in mind as well. I just don't see what is gained by you or anyone else that would post a rumor about how a high school kid. Guess I am the asshole though.

From another source on Diggs

"So, this is the knock on him... As a 15yr old Freshman he was placed on house arrest for 30 days for 2 incidents that occurred within days of each other. The first was for getting busted receiving "Fallacio" from a female student on school grounds. The 2nd was for simple assault (misdemeanor) of a female~ unspecified circumstances!"

So it's not a rumor or hearsay. It actually happened. Now once again, this raises some red flags about the kid, the bolded part. But if he has righted his ship and moved on from that, and the coaches trust him, I will as well.

Calm the fuck down dude.

Well that takes it past rumor and makes it fact. I am just not big on posting rumors about highs school kids. No one still knows all the facts behind Jones dismissal. My point is that if that were your brother or son would you want them speculating these types of accusations? I do apoligize for the tone of how it was said but I do stand beside the point I was trying to make.

After what may have just happened with a certain 2011 recruit and what may have happened with two 2012 MSU commits I doubt the coaches would pursue anyone with major problems.  If the recruit hard and he commits, I 100% trust their judgement.

I do as well. I've heard Diggs is interested in Michigan, but I'm not sure if Michigan has returned the interest. If they do return it and start pushing for him, then I'll assume they've done their research and it checks out, and I'll have no issue with it.

Worth noting that he did clarify this by saying the interest was on Diggs' end and the coaches had backed off because of (reportedly) grade issues. If he does want in, he'd have to show some marked improvement in school this fall. We'll see what happens. I think Diggs is set on ACC/SEC but anything can happen. If he visits, then who knows...

I would guess Diggs is somewhat of a longshot, but I'd have to think that the coaches are only looking at elite WR prospects. It wouldn't make sense for them to just be striking out with everyone at the position.

I don't know assault on a woman plus grade issues doesn't really scream the image I want for our players. I don't want to be a win at all cost school. We're Michigan.

People make mistakes, now I'm not saying he should be fully forgiven, but who the hell are you to create a standard for wolverines.  You have no clue what is going on with him, and I'm sure the coaches know where he is at now.

First of all, with a renewed interest in Michigan, that most likely means the coaches have started to recruit him hard.  Second of all, then don't be a fan of michigan.  You are damn right he has made mistakes, and I am assuming that since nearly every school in the country is recruiting him, I'm sure he has grown up.

First of all, we have always been in the running for this kid since he's had at least somewhat of an interest in us. He named us in his group of 15 a while back. However, I have never really heard that the coaches have really reciprocated that interest. Yep you are absolutely right kids never get recruited with character issues unless they have been fixed...never ever... Seriously I can't be a fan of Michigan because I'm not going to support someone who hits a woman.....fantastic argument.

No, what I am saying is either you should trust the coaches of Michigan and not throw a bitch fit.  If you understood recruiting at all, you would know that a five star player is not interested in schools that aren't recruiting him.  There is no way in hell that he is begging any coach to recruit him.  Wherever he has interest, the coaches have interest in him too.  If you don't like Diggs because of his past, fine.  But don't say he is not allowed into your school because he is dirty and we aren't.  If you don't like it, then that's fine.  But stop acting like a kid can never make mistakes and you are perfect, and you own a school, and decide who plays football here and who doesn't.  I apologize if you don't agree with this, you self-claimed master of the board and all society.

Well he served the house arrest. He was accused of abusing a woman. It's been going around the recruiting boards for months. Obviously juvenile records aren't public so I can't post an official list of charges. It might not be proof, but I take it you can put 2 and 2 together. There is certainly proof this kid has had multiple legal problems. Michigan recruiting insiders have documented the staff's concern over his grades. Of course some people don't think there is "proof" OJ did it.....He has said he doesn't want to play in the cold anyway. Best of luck to him hopefully he turns his life around.

"because I said something negative about a kid"

I think that says it all.  He's a kid.  He's a kid that you don't have any relationship with or even know at all for that matter.  If he was a current player or alum, then talk.  I'm pretty sure the coaches can handle the recruiting and character judgement.

Both on and off the field that separates Michigan from the rest. That's why we are the leaders and best. Even with the practice-gate fiasco, I believe we are still 130+ years and going of Michigan football with NO Major violations.

No team can keep every player under watch 24/7, but why settle for a half-hearted to be Blue recruit with issues like his off the field when we can get an all in to the team/rules/atmosphere of excellence that we strive for at Michigan???

Look at our evil nemesis as an example: Ohio won a Natl title with Clarett but it's not that team beating an unbeatable Miami for the title that we now remember. It's the off the field Clarett we remember and the questionable win at all costs (cheating the rules or not) atmosphere that the whole world outside of Ohio fans remember Tressel's teams for.

Is that what we want at Michigan??? Never settle for the half-hearted troubled kids if you can get those that are all in for excellence. Forgiveness is huge, we all need to do that, but why lower standards to give "excellence get out of jail free cards" to get a "5 star". The high stars don't always mean they are worth the baggage they bring.

True the kid is a freakish talent. I'm sure he has conquered all of his demons. He would be an amaizeing pick up for us. Now if he doesn't pick the maize and blue I will join in with everyone and cite the legal and grade issues. Got ahead of myself.

I trust Hoke.  If he thinks this kid is solid, a potential good student athlete, fine by me.

The way Hoke has been however, I think Diggs would have to prove he deserves a spot.  I don't think he just automatically walks in, after all the stories going around.
