Via DGDestroys twitter, Michigan has started to get back in to things with cornerback Yuri Wright. "Yuri Wright, says Michigan is the school he's always wanted to go to and that they'll definitely get a visit.
Michigan back in it for DB Yuri Wright (Don Bosco Prep)
I'm not getting my hopes up but that would be about as awesome as any other commit we have.
Yuri Wright, I must concur.
This proves that T-Rich is a Soft verbal and will take his visits.
Based on Tim's interview with him, that does seem like a possibility.
Since when did message board speculation become equivalent to proof?
speculation is invariably true. That is what the internet is all about
Your concept of proof is fascinatingly idiotic.
but now I'm getting to the point where I hope to see you've torn someone a new ass just as much as I want to see who we sign next. I hope you start a hockey blog somewhere or become a featured diarist on here. I love reading about your experiences and getting a better understanding of how hockey recruiting really works. I also like that you aren't afraid to just call someone out for being a moron. Just when I'm afraid the comments section on Mgoblog are turning into Mlive, you or Magnus tear it up.
It doesn't prove it, MGOUSMC, but it does infer it.
IMO, Wright is too good a prospect to turn away... assuming he wants to come.
Agree. We've talked about saving a spot (or two) for a super recruit who wants in regardless of position. IMHO, Wright more than qualifies.
I don't see t-rich leaving, but wright or reeves would be a huge commit. Still want diamond and washington as well. Pipkins would seal the deal if ross can somehow get him to come here.
I don't think T-Rich is going to drop Michigan; I just think that he wants to take his visits and live a little. I completely understand his perspective and the coaching staffs perspective. If T-Rich can't give a solid commit and refrain from taking officials, then the coaching staff will look out for the best interest of the institution and continue recruiting high profile CB's.
Don't get too excited about Washington. I have a hard time believing we'll take another DE. Pipkins is as close to a lock as there is, but I agree that Wright or Reeves would be great even if T-Rich is staying on.
I'm in cincy right now... I'll go grab Washington and bring him home. He's a big boy but I think I can get a hold of him.
Getting back into things with Wright and Reeves is great. Would love to get one of those two guys
http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N220DF. Domino's plane is still bookmarked from the coaching search. Possible eastern recruiting swing (WRight et al, fuller, Reeves) or it's just pizza hobnobbing.
When I asked my contacts at the AD regarding using private planes for recruiting, they said they didn't do that.
They said the only time they flew private was when it really, really made sense, and the example they gave was the socials that Belein, Hoke, Berenson and Brandon went to on that whirlwind tour.
This wa a few years ago before the Brandon era, so things might have changed.
reading the interview with TRich, why can't we just not talk about him. Not that I don't want him, b/c I do! But our fretting won't change the fact that he needs to figure it out for himself. Leave him alone if he needs his process, all this attention to his level of committment seems like its bugging him.
Meanwhile...cool we're in it for another top DB!
He held a press conference, not exactly a sign that he wants to be left alone and be out of the limelight.
Do you even know what sound mind, sound body is?
some dirty hippie, vegan, liberal, new wave mumbo jumbo?
Fans are free speculate on the recruitment and commitment status of high-school players. Nobody is slandering or violating the privacy of Terry Richardson by suggesting that he might still be interested in looking at other schools.
I spoke with him earlier today, I'll have his quotes in the Weekly Update on Monday.
Do you mean you have some quotes from Yuri?
Yes, since a.) it's a thread about Yuri, despite the fact that it (and every) discussion we have had about CB recruits lately has devolved into a thread about T-Rich, and b) since Tom maintains that the continued CB recruiting is not a reflection of the staff's feelings about T-Rich, but rather that they want another CB. It doesn't matter if this second point is believed by the masses (it's not), but it is Tom's stance, and I doubt that has changed.
And just to add, even if something were to happen with Terry (not implying anything), it's my understanding that they would look to fill that spot with another corner. It has more to do with the current roster.
Obviously that can change, especially if the numbers don't add up, but that's the thinking right now.
positions or are they concerned about attrition amongst the current cb's?
I thought we were only going to take 2 WRs, 2 DTs, and 1 more OL. If we got one of them, would we only take 1 WR instead? What if both of them committed?
It;s gunna be on a first come first serve basis. If Yuri commits before Armani, or vice versa, the other will no longer have a commitable offer. Also, the staff has said all along that they are only taking one DT. Spots left will probably go to 1 OL, 1 DT, 2 WR, and 1 CB.
For a certain player .. like Yuri Wright.
Thanks for clearing that up doughboy
6'2"? Yes please! Definitely sounds like T-Rich will be taking visits though.
He would be our top commit on Espn and second best on rivals. I hope this news is Wright.
Yurilly good at puns.
He'd be third on rivals, after Kalis and Magnuson.
Oh yes my bad, +1 for you. I can't change it now because people commented on it.
number 1 corner in the country on 247sports too.
Also, it's not thread-worthy, but Hufman from Scout reported that Magnuson just picked up an offer from USC, and he's still 100% blue. Good offer for him, and he's a guy who could get some consideration for a fifth star
and Magnuson fell out of the top 100 to somewhere in the 130s or so, so he's pretty unlikely to get a 5th star from Scout.
the Rivals guys thnk he has a shot at a 5th star though.
All the reports from all the camps said he was dominating. How/Why did he drop?
The Scout guys seemed to think he didn't really stand out (positively or negatively) at that event.
Get off our lawn, Kiffin...
“Michigan is the school I wanted to go to my whole life, and I just love the University of Michigan." Straight from the horse's mouth. We would have a great chance to pick him up if T Rich backs out or Reeves picks someone else.
Or if the coaches just want him and he commits. He is the biggest and highest rated of the three.
Which makes me ask the question: Why isn't he already committed?
It brings up thoughts of the unseemlier side of recruiting. Some of these kids are getting pulled this way and that by people who don't have their best interests in mind. Not saying this is going on with Yuri, just that I find the quote a little puzzling
I'm going to guess that not being able to take official visits yet has a lot to do with it. Not too many players have commited to out of region schools yet. Despite the size of our class it's still pretty early.
I know the sites haven't picked up on him yet (except Lemming/Maxpreps who has him in the top 100), but Standifer is a very good CB. He's got size, speed and skills. He might not be "elite" but he's really good. Look at how picky ND has been able to be with CBs in this class and they had an offer to him as well.
about the coaches thinking Standifer is more suited for safety rather than a quality judgment? And perhaps seeing the incoming class months after their commitments, they know they've lost Kellen Jones and may see a projected DB has physically developed in a way that may make him more helpful as an LB. And since they've got good LBs lined up for the next year, why not find another CB now?
Pure speculation, of course.
Great point, however I don't think I'd necessarily take that into account. Yuri is the same approximate height and weight as Standifer. If they have good hips, I'd imagine Mattison will keep them at corner. Maybe I'm wrong, but the corners won't have as much safety help in the 4-3 as they did last year. If they're 6+ feet, it should greatly help us in one on one situations where the corner and wr are off on their own.
With that said, it will be nice to see them line up in the same time zone as the wide receiver this year.
The dream of the base 2-3-6 defense remains intact...
on the georgia boards are pretty confident about yuri...colorodo and rutgers are also other players. He plans on taking an official to michigan though and these comments are encouraging, no doubt.
Yea Georgias the other team he's high on and also getting an official besides Michigan, and of course Rutgers is right there in his backyard so of course they're recruiting the heck out of him. But clearly Michigan is his best offer by far.
I wish we had 40 spots available in this class. so many great HS players are seriously interested in michigan.
I just hope we keep recruiting like this every year. Between 2012 and 2013, we could have 45 great new players.
If we had 40 guys in one academic class, that would make for one brutal rebuilding year after they'd all graduate.
Nutt signed a class of 37 recently...
sorry for that ole miss calss, so many of those kids never even made it on campus....no ethics.
I we can put it together a little bit this season, getting to 9 or so wins, next year may be even more huge.
that we could be better off with corners the size of Yuri and Armani. I like t-rich but am slightly concerned over his speed in relation to size. I know #2's don't come around often, and that our recent history with tall corners is less then stellar, but if you hit on a 6'+ corner the results are much better then a 5'9" guy with avg. speed
It might be better overall to take Yuri over Terry, but it would undermine Hoke's recruiting strategy of first one to commit gets the spot. The coaches have to remain committed to the player if the player is committed to them. Otherwise what incentive is there for a kid to commit early to Hoke if he knows the coaches like him.
I like Yuri over Richardson as well. I don't think it undermines Hokes recruiting at all though. Terry said he commited, but since said he's now iffy with other visit talk. That means not committed to me and the coaching staff has to look out for themselves. If he isn't 100% Michigan then move on. I personally think Richardson will be gone which is fine by me, because I like Yuri and others better anyway. Don't force an issue because friends committed and that's where you're from. If he wants attention so bad and to look around, by all means, go ahead. Michigan will be just fine with of without Terry Richardson.
I always think of Braylon Edwards vs. Jaren Hayes when this is mentioned
I thought Reeves is under 6'0? Standifer, if he stays at corner, would fit the height requirement you're talking about.
If you go back further, we have had some great +6'0 corners like that Woodson guy.
both ESPN and Scout reported that Leonte Carroo committed to Rutgers. While this probably doesn't hurt Michigan to much (though he did have an offer I believe) he is a teammate of Wright's.
from 3 weeks ago, We're 3rd on list from what I got. ND coaches arent keeping in touch, dont think ND is a factor anymore. We need to make some ground against uga & colorodo.
From what's been said by TomVH, this really has nothing to do with Richardson. This is not an either Yuri or Terry proposition. I realize that we have an incessant need to speculate, but it seems like there is no need in this case. We seem to want them both. Good for us.
I understand your version may be slightly more logical, in terms of a timeline-based version of the articulation of events, than the poster's version of the story that you replied to. But, unless you have some first-hand knowledge of the coaches' decision making, how can you so demonstratively say, "I am absolutely right, and you are absolutely wrong"?
The info available. TomVH explicitly stated that the emergence of Yuri had nothing to do with Terry. I didn't claim otherwise. So, Tom is way off then?
TomVH's statement to this fact is in this very thread. He also said the same thing in the Reeves post.
...if Wright has always wanted to come to Michigan, and he's that highly rated, why the disconnect until just recently? Seems like it should have happened months ago, or at least more mutual interest along the way.
I don't understand why everybody is saying we should definately not pick up another corner in this class.. If we can put two shut down corners together on the field at one time, how is that not a good thing. Even if Richardson stays I say we pick this guy up.
