Michigan and Texas Negotiating Home and Home

Submitted by michchi85 on

Looks like that 2nd team we will face in the far upcoming schedules will be Texas.  I'll be going to Austin for that one, if I'm still alive:

As mentioned earlier and confirmed by @AnwarRichardson of http://t.co/ruK1bYfHbc, U-M and texas are negotiating a home/home series.

Texas and Michigan are currently working on dates, but it will likely be sometime in the 2020s #Longhorns #HookEm #Wolverines

Considering all major powers go through highs and lows and both programs are definitely going through their lows now, it's reasonable to expect that both programs will find their way back to the top between now and then

(whether they're on the way back down again by that point is another question)

Both programs are in some really low spots right now.

At least Michigan has the pieces to be successful, they're just not doing it.

Texas is rebuilding. To get smacked 41-7 at home by BYU, for the second straight year.....yikes.

Here's to a #1 vs #2 matchup between these two teams in both Ann Arbor and Austin.

Thinking about some of these games being scheduled so far out.....is crazy.

I could have kids by the time these games are played. If it's past 2025, I'll be in my 30s.

You may very well have kids, but to be fair, my youngest will be graduating high school in that year and I believe a fair number of people on the board would fully expect to be grandparents by this time.

That being said, I would love to have a home-and-home with Texas really, particularly if by then we're talking about a game which is nationally relevant and a marquee matchup of the weekend.

Well I'm sure you've already thought about which former Michigan players/coaches you might name your kids after. But in case of a surprise, my suggestion for a boy would be Dhani or Tai. For a girl...well, guess you'll just have to go with Oosterbaan or something. Or maybe Braylon could work. Just stay away from Jumbo and Butch.

shouldn't you be studying and/or chasing coeds?

Especially since you ended your above post by mentioning you "could have kids" by then.

Think about it:  Once you catch one of those pretty coeds, and then another, and then another...eventually you're likely to find the future "Mrs WD" .  Then the kids start showing up---eventually 11 of them, right?----and think of all the many, many Michigan outfits/shirts/uniformz you'll be buying each and every one of those little Devotees!

So this is where the "hit the books!" lecture comes in.  Your allowance $$$ will dry up well before then, and you need a good-paying, rewarding job to foot the bill of feeding (and yes, Chobani makes kids yogurts, too) and outfitting those 11 mini-yous.

My advice, again---hit the books and hit on those coeds while you're still a free man.

The Michigan/Texas Rose Bowl was one of the best games I've ever watched.  Granted, both programs are a world away from that at this moment, but regardless, yes please to Michigan v. Texas.

I've always wanted to get down to Austin, I've heard it's an awesome college town. Of course, by the time this game rolls around (if it's in the 2020s) I'll be in my 40s, but still, going to Austin is on my bucket list. Hope they can pull this off, and hopefully both teams will be good again by then.

I think if there is one team that should never suck in college football, it's Texas. Besides all the history, they don't even have to leave the state to recruit and there are plenty of good enough players for A&M, Baylor etc. to be successful.

I was in attendance at that Rose Bowl game between Michigan and Texas.  Despite the result, it was a great game in a great atmosphere between two teams that had never played one another before.

That game also led me to think at that time, during the BCS era, that it might make sense for Michigan to rotate its major non-conference opponents and not play Notre Dame every year.  That's not to say the series would be completely eliminated, but I felt there were other major programs out there which Michigan should play in September other than the Irish.

In that respect, I'm kind of glad the ND series ended, despite the timing, how it was done, and how it's been a bit of a scramble to replace that game in the near term.  It really does allow UM the opportunity to plant the flag in places other than South Bend every other year.

What will be interesting to see is when these games with Texas are slated to take place.  The next two open years with no home-and-home non-conference games are 2024 and 2027.  That's one possibility.

The other possibility would have Michigan playing Texas along with another Power 5 Conference team like UM is doing in 2020/1 with Virginia Tech and Washington.

Texas does have a home-and-home scheduled with Ohio State in 2022/3, but OSU just added Notre Dame those two years.  Are the Buckeyes going to play the Longhorns and the Irish those two years or asre the going to ask to move the series with UT?  If the latter is true, perhaps we'll see a Texas/UCLA duo playing Michigan in 2022/3.

If its not going to be within the next few years, there's really not much sense in getting worked up about it. Odds are the coaches in each institution will be cycled out at least once by by the time it happens.

So it's Washington in 20-21, UCLA in 22-23, and Oklahoma in 25-26. When would this be and what's going on in 24? I mean, the OP said some time in the 20's. Overlapping any of these or after?
